Hi,
I started my protege yesterday and it started stuttering, like it was about to die. It ran good at higher speeds but was stuttering at idle and the Check engine light started flashing. It has been idling and running fine since, but the CEL light keeps on flashing and its giving crappy mileage (15 mpg).
I checked the engine oil level and that looked to be much higer than full level (although i did it in cold condition, ie without starting the engine). Some one told me that the high engine oil level could have led to engine misfiring and burnt up the O2 sensor. I drove to the oil change place and they checked the oil level and found it to be just a tad high, i dont know if the engine oil is leaking or being spit into the exhaust.
Any idea why the CEL light might be flashing. I am planning to change the O2 sensor. Is it really harmful for the car if i keep running it.

I went to Autozone and they gave me P0170 as the error code. Anyone want to help a newbe trying to rescue his car.
