well it started last month when i ordered an intake manifold from an online aftermarket parts specialist i won't name names. everything i got from them has been top quality with top notch service. Not this time, i ordered my mani and it was back ordered for two weeks ,no biggie i can wait, but once it came with a stock EGR pipe so i had to wait another 4 days for the upgraded one to install. i was excited most reviewers had nothing real bad to say about it performance wise and the install seemed to be simple but still a bit of a challenge. i went for it. it took me two full days to get it in simpley because the stock mani egr pipe did not want to come out. once it was installed i got a horrible referee sounding whistle definetely a leak somewhere i checked all my lines and printed out vac line instructions off the forum, still no luck my RPM's were bouncing and the car wouldn't stay idle. i was shit out of luck. after 3 mroe days of fooling with it in 90 degree heat i just couldn't take it anymore so i limped it down to my local tuning shop,(i've never been before, doing all my mods myself i've often passed saying that's the place i'd take the car if i had serious troubles). once i arrive the owner (i'm guessing) seemed to be a nice guy the parts in his store were fair priced and i didn't have second thoughts about the honesty of the place. i told him my problem and he said no problem we'll get to work right away. i figured that i wouldn't get my baby back for at least a week or two. the next day i get a call from the owner "hey we finished your car", i thought to myself awesome, but he continued "is there something wrong with your transmission?""no" i replied. "well we can't get it in to gear can you get down here right away." i thought the worst, and i was right i sped down there in my 92 civic and not to my surprise my differential was destroyed and the guy recommended me a new clutch, now i'm not sure how this happened seeing a brought the car there for my intake manifold and this guys set me up with transmission problems and on top of that i don't beat on my car, regularly. but the guy showed me the price and i figured if i had to do it his prices werent bad seeing i would have to tow it somewhere else. but i definetly got the shaft and was stuck between a rock and a hard place. my simple mani install came close to two thousand dollars including everything else.but the good news is the car drives alot smoother and i have torque out the ass, and i'm back on the road. i suggest doing some good research before bringing your car anywhere even if the shop has been featured in modified mag.
I drive a platinum grey , 2003.5 MSP.

Sounds like they blew your diff "test" driving it. I hate letting anyone work on my car but me. I don't think I would have paid them to fix what they seem to have broken.....

+1 More than likely they were beating the hell out of your after they fixed the vac leak, and destroyed your LSD in the process. Heads would be rolling if I were you.

it's in elmwood park,nj. seemed like the real deal but you guys are right and all my mechanic buddies told me the same thing "Accidents" happen while test driving, funny thing is my car was sitting between a twin turbo rx-8 and a rx-7 ready for show. why my car they decided to go out and beat on is beyond me.

Sucks but it does happen, I've been told by customers to not drive the car unless they are there and that doesn't sound too bad. If I were to ever need to take my car to get worked on I'd say the same thing. "don't drive it unless I'm here".

Couple years ago I was test driving an old MR2 for a brake pulsation and the engine locked up on me. You feel like a dick, but shit happens. I was less than an 1/8 mile from the shop. Nothing worse than walking back to work.

yea they weren't necessarily ''beating on it,'' although i too jumped to that answer first. I guess shit happens -- clearly you would have needed it SOON down the road, so i guess maybe it's better that it happened while already at the shop? If you got the ms replacement lsd, did you get it welded?

Yeah..you really cant blame this shop for your LSD blowing. Its a common problem that does happen to the MSP. It could have happened to you the moment you pulled out.
It wouldn't have made a difference who was driving it..When its gonna go...its gonna go regardless.
I was just barely taking off from a light when mine let go..barely in the gas at all..and I mean berely..so they most likely werent beating on it...It was just it's time.
They did get your problem fixed though so I guess they did what you took it in for.I'd be happy about that.
