i was told by the tire rack that yeah 225 will fit on the stock rim but its a half inch higher cuase the way you diveide the numbers? and my buddy does have 225 they look better than mine and i could buy that they are a 1/2 inch higher, he said if you go with 235/40 vs 45 series that the hight will be the same with better traction mazda just puts 215 on there for ride concerns, but just like in forza more patch equels more grip! not to mention a better look

I thought our stock 18x7 rims are too narrow for 235's, 18x8's are ideal according to most tire charts I've looked at. I think I'd like to get some lightweight 17x8 rims with 235/40 (or 45, don't remember)/17 tires. Even with the wider rubber I'd be saving about 5 lbs per wheel and I don't think the sidewall would be too huge.

he said when you go wider you end up with a little taller tire so by switichin to 225\45 from 215\45 you get a 1/2inch taller tire, but if you switch to 235\40 its a perfect fit, and with wider tires you get better traction.

Actually, a 235/40 is .2" smaller than the stock 215/45. The best match would be a 245/40, as it is only .1" larger but also another cm wider. Unfortunately it may be too wide to fit properly, however.

I fitted a 245/40 unto a stock rim its just a little too wide for the rim ,the tire protrudes too much like an SUV tire, not good for handling at all.Stock is good for 225 7.5" for 235 and 8" for 245-255.
I run 235`s on 7.5 and it looks the best.

I'm more interested in the performance of a tire than the way it looks on a car. I would never put a 245 on the stock wheel, I was just stating that the fitment of a 235/40 is not a "better fitment".
The thing that I don't like about having a smaller than stock overall diameter, is that you're putting more miles on the car than you are actually traveling. With a 215/45 on a car calibrated for that size, your odometer will be accurate. If you put a 235/40 on that same car, for every 787 miles you drive, you actually put 794 miles on the car. I know it's only 7 miles over that distance, but once you get into the 78,700 mile range, you have now added 700 miles to the car and your odometer will read 79,400.

225/40s are a lot cheaper than 235/40s....which is why ill be going with 225 tires (on a 7.5 wheel)

Bro 225`s just don`t do it for the MS3 period. For looks and performance you need at least 235 for a car that looks as sporty and sexy as the MS3.It does not look good im telling you.Been there done that. You need the traction, handling and the looks.Even 235`s do not look wide enough for a stirdy stance like the E46.Its up to you you`ll regret it.225`s look flimbsy. However on stock the limit is 225.You need an 8" for 245`s.
Here is a few photos of what a 235/40 looks like

Have this size on and it is sweet. More tq steer due to the incredible grip these michi's have.

Which Michelins are you running at 225/40?? How do they look. I know the sidewall is slightly shorter. Do you notice any difference in wheel gap?
Thanks

Pilot sports 225/40's, and no not really. Tell you one thing though, besides the incredible grip they are quiet as hell compared to the stock crappy tires. Can barely hear them.

I think I'll be putting Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's of the same size on the Speed. I run the same tires on my Mz3 and Mz5 and love them. They perform great in the dry and wet and do a decent job in the snow.
BTW, what is that behind the MS3? It looks like a gull-wing door, but it looks like there is a Chevy Cavalier Convertible behind you as well. Is it an optical illusion.
FYI, I'm getting the Sunlight Silver GT as well. SHould be here end of September.

That is a friends sick sunfire. He has a 50 wet shot of nos and a nice exhaust system thats approx. 2.5". Doesn't put out nearly as much we do but it sounds sweet, and of course the suicide doors with some sweet rims.
