Hey guys, first post here to the Mazda forums. I own a 95 mitsubishi eclipse rs-t with heavy mods. I know my way around cars, for the most part.

However my brothers 95 protege always squeels on a cold start so I told him I would change his belts for him. My problem is I can't get the P/S pump to swivel. I found the two 14mm bolts that are inside the pulley. Had to unhook the ignition coil and crank it to get in there. Then underneath the pump is a "T" bolt thing. Theres a long bolt and another shorter bolt perpindicular to this one. I removed both of those. Still no swivel. I must be missing something, what is it? While were at it, any complications I might run into trying to get the Alt to swivel?

Appreciate the help guys, and yes I did search first.

Loosen the long bolt near the head/valve cover. Loosen the nut on the tensioner block (underneath pump) and then back off the tensioning bolt. Kind of sounds like you did this already. Is it very rusty? A good douche with pb blaster may be in order along with a gentle tap here and there. When in doubt- go to the parts store and a get a smaller belt and roll it on.

I think the tension bolt and block you refered to is my "T" bolt example.

What long bolt are you talking about? I looked near the VC/Head and found nothing.

Should be a long bolt (going from memory) that you get at through the ps pulley. Also- follow the bracket that tensioning block is on towards the head and you will find another bolt. Loosen that one as well. Will help things pivot a little better.

if the belt isisn't fuckered and is good shape but still squeels, you can try a less time comsuming method..

buy some wax sticks.. they come in packs of 4 i believe and there about 5 inches long by 1" x 1".. there used to make your own candles..

you just let the car idles and make the wax stick touch under and over the belt.. it really works. :)
