ok, so i managed to get my hands on a corksport S-pipe.
The thing is that it is cracked.....
is not cracked at the flange but at one of the many welds in between.
My question is, could this be rewelded?
what material is it?
how expensive can it be? i'm talking of a crack about 2.5" long and probably
1mm wide.
thnx

hey if you bought it brand new you might want to call up CS, they usually take good care of their customers. If it is new they will most likely work something out with you on finding a solution to fix it. If not then just send that bad boy my way it'll go great with their fmic kit

Well, the time has come.
I hate that fucking ugly piece of shit of JEEP Liberty!
i'm tired of it, i'm the one who always have to drive it if it ever needs to be driven. IT handles like shit, no ABS and is a V6, so not too sweet on gas either.
Bottom line, i'm ready to dump it on a canal.
Now, i'm looking for another car for her.
This are MY requierements:
1) it absolutely has to be 4 cyl. No more gas guzzling engines!
2) it cannot be MANUAL, as much as i hate it, the wife refuses to drive manual!
3) it can't be anything else than a sedan but has to have lots of space.
4) has to be RELIABLE, i cna't be fucking fixing that piece of shit all the time.
5) good warranty if still under one.
MY OPTIONS:
MAKE: MAZDA
MODEL: PROTEGE 5
COLOR: YELLOW (FASTEST)
YEAR: 2002 (2003 ARE TO EXPENSIVE)
BODY STYLE: WAGON
RATING: MAX 5
http://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gif
PLUSES: 4 CYL, i know the car like the back of my hand, good on gas (with proper tunes and auto) lots of cargo space(i've seen what people had put in the back!)
MINUSES: Anemic FSDE Engine. Another PROTEGE!, wife might not like color.
MAKE: HONDA
MODEL: CIVIC
COLOR: BLUE OR BLACK
YEAR: 2002
BODY STYLE: COUPE (2DR)
RATING: MAX 5
http://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gif
PLUSES: super reliable engine. maybe V-TEC, so we all know what that means. very good on gas. parts readily available in case something goes bad. wife might be easily persuaded by gas saving factor.
MINUSES: HONDUH!, very sought after by thiefs, mazda owners dispise the car, i hate it too but i'll learn to love the MPG.
MAKE: MITSUBISHI
MODEL: LANCER - RALLYART?
COLOR: BLACK/WHITE/RED
YEAR: N/A
BODY STYLE: 4DR SEDAN
RATING:
http://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gif
PLUSES: Looks alot like an EVO, might be good on gas...don't really know. I've always wanted one.
MINUSES: is not an EVO, heard really bad things about the engine. its mitsubishi, prolly crankwalk.
MAKE: MAZDA
MODEL: MIATA
COLOR: WHITE/BLACK/RED
YEAR: 2001
BODY STYLE: 2DR CONVERTIBLE
RATING:
http://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gifhttp://www.starfm.ca/img/img_hdr_star.gif
PLUSES: Strong engine(or at least i think). Stay in the mazda family. Fun to drive. Good on GAS. Fits my price range. Wife might like the breeze in her hair.
MINUSES: too fucking small. I might drive it always and completely forget about the MSP. very temptative to MOD it and end up with a bigger hole in the bank.

my spipe sheared in half after two months, with filled mounts and flex pipe. I didn't see a gain from it anyways so I sold it after CS replaced it. It is a pain in the ass install to keep doing it time after time. If you reweld it and are gonna install it I highly recommend getting the whole thing reinforced or it will sheer at another weld once it has a load. I love CS customer service and still buy from them, but I won't pick up anything that they have welded after seeing 2 s-pipes and 3 exhausts that have fallen apart at the welds. On a side note, with the money form the s-pipe I got a E-cutout and felt a much larger gain from that then the s-pipe.
and if the miata is an auto than I highly doubt you'll drive that more than the msp

same thing happened to mine...except i never go tit re-welded so it sits in 2 pieces, with the j pipe and exhaust on the floor of my garage.
To their credit CS offered to reweld it if I sent it back (I purchased before they had the REQUIRES NEW MOTOR MOUNTS CLAUSE) or reimburse me for having it rewelded locally. I dont trust any locals to do the job and never got around to sending it back to CS to be rewelded...im sure its too late now (that was like, last summer)

CS says that with new motor mounts (which they sell) the pipe wont break. It is also said/known/rumored though im not sure if this is by CS or just by ppl on the forums that having a flex pipe welded into the exhaust would accomplish the same thing

You Better have no Negative Comments about the Paint. since You got that shit for Free From me.. I painted that shit so the Crack and hole will stick out and be more noticeable. I really fucking hate when you talk shit without any fucking reason.. these is the Worst Investment i've done the S-Pipe and J-Pipe Really Sucks a Fat D**k.. they are made out of crap. looks and feels like Plastic. i gotta say I was pretty impressed with the parts when they came in and I think they look and feel really solid....turned out that wasnt really the case but i definitely wouldnt knock their craftsmanship. I think they just should have included new motor mounts with the S/J pipes which apparently stops them from breaking in the first place....or some sort of a flex section in the power series exhaust.
evilmonkeyMSP
08-08-2007, 09:49 AM
they eventually added a flex section to their exhaust. Mine has one after I got the new midpipe :D
slug420
08-08-2007, 09:54 AM
do you have the S/J pipes also? Do you need motor mounts ANd the flex section to prevent breaking or is just having that flex section sufficient?
evilmonkeyMSP
08-08-2007, 09:56 AM
I dont have the S/J pipe but I have been running the exhaust w/ the flex section for atleast 30-40k miles w/ no issues. I only recenlty replaced my front MM

Like I said, I love their customer service and they are a great vendor, but as far as their welded pieces, I won't buy anymore from them. My s-pipe broke with filled MMs and a huge flex pipe in my exhaust. Sorry but their craftmanship isn't there. Locally I have seen 2 spipes, and 3 exhausts break.
Alejo_NIN
08-08-2007, 11:12 AM
starting to agree with everyone here. the spipe looks great. if only it was of better quality...
probably the metal that they make it from is good. is just the welds....it didn't snap in the metal part but on the welds.
hopefully when they start getting these kinds of complaints they'll improve theyre products.
as for now, their customer services kicks ass

Wow. CS S/J Pipes and Exhaust here. S/J pipes on since Jan, exhaust on since late May with no issues. The only manufacturing issue I had was the holes on the S pipe for the studs were kind of tilted outward so it was a hard fit with the J pipe. I also had one stud completely fall out but I assume that is my fault. No breaking, cracking, shearing, etc. BTW, I have all 4 AWR mounts/inserts, Kartboy hangers, and a flexpipe in the CS exhaust. Shit doesn't move, period!
(now that I say this it's probably going to break, damnit)

i have the corksport front and rear inserts (and awr inserts) so we will see how it goes. i didnt get mine with a flexpipe, that would have been nice to have. their stuff doesnt seem like crap to me. i think anything with alot of welds is going to have these issues, its just the nature of it.

my ghl broke just as much as any other one. same thing, no flex section, no mounts = broken exhaust. they added a flex and i got mounts and then it stopped breaking.

click on the automotive tabs on the left column, OEM or racing. I got a contact off the site and sent him an email inquiring about it, he quoted me the price, but again he was just juding off my description of the piece. end up paying 45 bucks for someone wit the right fuckig tools to do it.
so happy dude, the machinist was kick ass! i actualy tipped him an extra 5 bucks
so, no more leaks!!!
Spipe installed
Jpipe installed
took it for a test and damn, what a fucking difference!!!
few problems tho
when installing the s-pipe with the stock studs, one of then had to be cut down 3 threads in order to let the s-pipe fit.
an
the j-pipe has the holes way to small and i couldn't fit the spring and nut thingy
other than that, was painful

when mine broke i didn't have any motormounts but i did have a flex pipe. it broke after a year so i got some AWR and RR-Racing motor mount inserts. My vibrant exhaust had a tab welded on the j-pipe, near a threaded hole in the engine. i made a short L-bracket that now supports the the j-pipe to the engine, so when the engine moves, so does everything from the j-pipe to the manifold. the stress is now on the flex pipe when the engine moves, like where it should be.

dude , i know what you talking about when it comes to the Vibrant's J pipe having that tab just like the stock j pipe has one, and you mounted in the same place where the stock j pipe mounts w/ a L shape bolted on the bottom of the engine right ???
When i did that i felt more vibration and just took the bold out but i left the L shape in there so the Vibrant J pipe tab rests on top of the L which is mouted on the bottom of the engine ???

sounds like we're talking about the same thing. I don't remember if the stock one had a bracket, b/c i ran a Perrin exhaust (no bracket to motor) for a long time before i switched to the Vibrant. Luckily I haven't experienced any issues w/ vibrations and the DP still hasn't cracked after months.

08-13-2007, 08:34 PM
the only thing that worries me is the angle that the L shape makes w/ the vibrant j pipe tab , when its bolded up it kinda rotates the j pipe a bit so i don't know if it puts stress on the S + j pipe connection.
but i'll put that bold back on as soon as i get a chance to get under the car.
