Hey everyone,
I just acquired a 1995 protege with an engine surge problem. I can hold the gas and the engine will slowly die while moving. I have to press the gas and the engine surges pretty well afterwards. I have been told to clean the egr valve. I located the thing after removing the throttle body and tearing several dry rotted hoses. The valve itself though I was unable to remove. The top of it had an electrical cord coming out of it and I didn't want to mess with the thing. I put some seafoam cleaner in the part of the valve that came off and sprayed some into the valve holes in the engine itself and am letting them sit overnight.
Any tips on how to proceed or how to actually remove the entire valve? Do you feel as though I have paid enough attention to cleaning the valve? This is my first car project and am trying not to destroy the engine...
