i recently purchased a forge motorsport blow off valve for my msp 03.5 but kinda lost on how to install it. i know that it is suppose to replace the OEM bpv but im just lost. i sound like a newb but i've only had the car for a year and waitied until it was all paid off to finally add aftermarket products.
heres whats on so far.
-custom exhaust
-injen cai
-SU front engine mount
-greddy turbo timer
-boost gauge
-and turbosmart boost controller
if anybody can help me out i would really appreciate it.

take off the BPV and all of the hoses connected to it. plug the cold pipe nipple with the bolt looking thing and clamp it. put the forge bov on the hot pipe side and connect the little hose on the top to where it used to come out of the BPV. i just did mine and it didnt come with instructions, ill take pics tho and show you...i just read what i wrote and i dont even understand sorry for not knowing all the right lingo, but i know how to do it so ill take pics.

Is the replacement a BOV or a BPV? If you are replacing the stock BPV with a BOV and you havent relocated your MAF to the pressure side pipe you might experience unfixable stalling. BOVs vent air straight to the atmosphere while BPVs recirculate the air into the intake. In order to run a BOV you have to either run both the BOV and the BPV or you have to relocate your MAF. If the replacement is another BPV you shouldnt have anyprobs just following the directions it came with. Its almost self explanatory just by looking at it and comparing it to the stocker.

My MAF is relocated because of the CAI.

So let me get this straight. This forged part that we are talking about replaces the Stock BPV. In the process of changing the part, you will get the sssshhhooooooooowsh that alot of us long for. is it similar to the Forge Motorsport Blow Off Valve Kit - Mazdaspeed Protege
[FMDVMSP01] that progetegarge sells? It it is similar to that how does that setup work VS doing the dual setup? What the advantages from doing one vs the other... Much help would be much appreciated...

well theres a "sssshhhooooooooowsh" that you get from a BPV and then theres a "pssssssssssssssssttt" that you get from a BOV.
ok now for my question, could someone more knowledgeable straighten me out on this.....
if i want to run a BOV without running a dual set up and not stall i'd need to
1. get hardpipes or a FMIC in order to weld a flange to
2. relocate the MAF to the pressure side (which is before the BOV?)
3. weld the flange after the MAF
4. bolt the BOV to the flange
5. adjust the BOV?
if anyone could set me straight it'll be appreciated

Let me see if I can answer some questions for you.
You can have a Blow off Valve without running a dual setup BOV+BPV
You can do this without any other modifications if you get the right BOV. There are only a few BOV's out there that will work without stalling issues on a stock MSP. There are two types of BOV's out there. Single piston and Dual Piston/Diaphram. Single piston BOV= Greddy, HKS SSQ will not work on a stocker MSP without stalling issues if the BPV is removed.
Dual Piston/Diaphram BOV= Forge Motorsports (BOV) MSP01 kit. This is the one you see in the pictures on this thread. Another one is Samco Sport and Turbosmart Dual. They are designed to bolt right onto the stock MSP without modifications to MAF or anything else. You will not have stalling issues with these because of the Dual Piston design. At no or low boost you will only hear a quiet swoosh of air. When boosted up, it sounds great. This will allow the MSP to run smooth, no check engine lights, or other complications.
I have the Forge BOV and I like it. My set up is stock except for a SRI. When I put my SRI on, the BOV got way louder. I have never had my car stall or any dash lights come on.
Just remember, it depends on what you are planning on doing. Hope this information works for you.(mj)

Crash. Your statement is not entirely true. I'm not attacking you, but just throwing out an FYI. There are a couple BOV's out there designed to bolt right on a stock MSP with no stalling issues. These are known as Dual Piston/Diaphram BOV's. The only one's I can think of are the ones I listed in my previous post. If folks want to run a Greddy or HKS without recirc fittings, then yes... They will have to relocate the MAF. Greddy and HKS are single piston BOV's. It dumps the whole load to atmosphere immediately. The Dual pistons have two springs operating allowing air to vent 100% to atmosphere but not dumping its load all at once. (rockon)

ISNT THAT BAD TO RELOCATE THE MAF. I WAS TOLD BY PPL THAT IT WILL SHORTEN THE LIFE OF THE MAF

I'm wanting to get the forge as well and run a bov with no dual set up if I can. I've done a search for numerous ideas and information, and I hear stuff from both sides. I am all stock right now, but I'm planning on getting the injen pipes, forge bov, and taking out the bpv.
The bpv only recirculates the boost so it stays in the system without any stalling. Since our cars have a small turbo, it's good to have the bpv to keep the boost in the intake system, however, I've seen numerous setups that use bov with no stalling or any other noticeable problems.
So if I am understanding this correctly, if one were to put on the forge bov, there is no maf relocation necessary? I know our cars weren't originally made to vent to atmosphere, but won't that cause a problem if the maf isn't relocated?

i like the sound of the bov(the old style hks bov) that came with the car when i got it. but im tried of the carzy idle and the stalling, so im going to try a different bov or go with the dual setup

now see I got a BOV for mine (not forge but knockoff greddy), installed it the same exact way as those pics while running 10-14psi thanks to unichip and I still get turkey gooble and not really that much wooshing sound at all....explain that one to me? I thought for sure it would get rid of the turkey and give me that bad ass piss off the dude in the camaro next to me sound! what gives?

Also I should probly point out that the BOV is the exact same thing as the GReddy model to a T just 40 dollars less. I held them both and compared to make sure and the guy at tru motorsports assured me there would be know difference from the name brand. If so I don't understand what the deal is.....or how they get that loud annoying (sounds like the three stooges) sound from their turbo. Thats what I want damn it! Anyways, I also get mucho mucho stalling ALOT and especially when I run the balls off. I'm always running late for work (45 miles away) so I burn it down country roads at about a buck and for some reason thats when it seems to be the worst. Lol, anyways let me know if I need to change something
