I'm looking at the MSP but i can't find a good one stock with low miles around the Minnesota area. Looking at other vehicles now. What are some cars that you considered before you got your MSP?

SRT-4
VW Jetta/Golf
Supercharged Cobalt/Ion

What kind of car are you looking for;

number of doors, number of seats, what do you want to do to this car...etc.

It really depends on you. In the price range of around $10-15k you can look for these:

RSX, WRX, SRT-4, MSP, Civic SI, ION, Golf, Jetta, Prelude, etc. It really depends on what you want. All cars will have their pluses and minuses.

Nissan SE-R Spec V.......get torque, I 've driven the Ion Redline, and the owner drove my 05 Spec V when I had it.

His car was 3 days old.....he returned it. I drove it....I would have too.

I thought redline's are all SC'ed

Supposedly their power is grossly underrated. A magazine put one on the DynoJet and it made 197 fwhp.

The only iON that's SC'd is the Redline version. I would never buy the iON Redline/Cobalt SS. The suspension on those cars suck balls. The interiors suck as do the seats. They are underrated from the factory, but who cares, well, unless all you want to do is go in a straight line.

Spec-V is a fun car, but the interior is also cheap and the engine has a lot of issues (rotting out the first cat, then sucking the debris back into the engine, flapper valve screws coming loose and destroying intake/exhaust valves, etc). SRT-4 is fast, but again, cheap all around. Civic SI is torqueless and way overpriced because it's a Honda.

My List:
WRX, RSX, MSP, Spec-V, Golf/GTI, Cooper S, 90-94 Eclipse/Talon/Laser (although due to age reliability becomes an issue), RX-8 (actually found one locally for 15k), older M3 (found one locally for 15k), Scion tC, Focus SVT, Nissan Versa (just in case you want to have a practical, boring car), old Corvette (saw an 89 for 13k), Hyundai Tiburon, Camaro/Firebird

I looked at the the Cobalt SS/SC and the ION Redline. They both make great power, but that's ALL they do. Every article I ever read slammed the living 5h17 out of the Redline. I've never read a single positive thing about the car (supposedly the seats are real nice, tho'...) The Cobalt is substantially better, but that's really not saying much. Plus I wanted 4 real doors. I also considered the SRT-4, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy a domestic.

I considered both the Celica and the ITR. Both had VTEC-esque power delivery, but I'm not a huge coupe fan. An ITR would still be hAwt, tho', now that I think about it. It's be stolen eventually, too...

It came down to the Spec V and the MSP. They're simiilar in alot of ways. Drag-racing both cars would be a driver's race. Both sedans, both similarly priced. The MSP won out, though, due to it's appearance (the Spec-V looks kinda lika a potato), exclusivity (2698 of, like, 5000), super, duper handling (If you look at the chassis, it says "Racing Beat wuz here and an LSD is over there somewhere...", and the factory turbo. (I assumed more power was available by simply turning up the boost, but I was slightly mistaken...)

The Spec-V has it's issues, but if you loctite the butterfly screws (on the earlier models), and replace the pre-cat with a set of headers, the car should be fine.

I would still buy a Spec-V if I had an extra $15,000 lying around...

Celica GT-S wouldn't be bad either, I just forgot about it. That is if you can get over the aggressive styling.

I've owned a 2000 Type-R and I loved it. The power on that thing is awesome with the 8500 redline. Of course for a daily driver a person might want something with more torque, but the VTEC on the Type-R's are nice. Very sexy looking car stock too. Oh yeah, and gas mileage is good too. After I sold it to my cousin he took it to the track and ran a 14.7 all stock. That would probably take my stock MSP anyday, and the handling are probably pretty equal. I wouldn't mind another Type-R, but a four door was needed.

I've had an 03' Spec V and the only problem I had was a position crank sensor. Overall, the car was good. Some may say it felt cheap but the car brand new is like $16-17k and is a good performer. It's pretty nice having the torque, especially just cruising down the highway in 6th gear going 70 and stepping on it and passing people. But it lacked top end power.

My friend had a Celica GT-S and it was nice as well. It felt more racier but comfy. The power on the other hand was way different then the Spec V, not torque but good top end. But then again, it's a coupe.

I've ridden in a GS-R and they feel like a Celica GT-S power wise. I've never rode in a Type R but I use to like them a lot especially with the JDM front. The only thing that sucks if you get a Honda or Acura, you're going to get jacked one day, especially if you live in California.

Then one of my friends got a 05' GTI and those are pretty nice. Power is good all over the powerband and torque comes in pretty low. But VW is known for their electrical problems and if you've ever owned one, you know what I'm talking about.

My brother used to have an '03 Jetta VR6. It has alot of power and drove nice and all, but like MSP21 stated they've got problems. He always got a CEL. Even when there was supposedly no problems he had a CEL. He would have to take it in for VW to reset it. He got tired of it and traded it in.

The funny thing is that my brother traded it in at a shop that one of my cousins work at. One of my cousins friends ended up buying my brother's Jetta from the shop even after my cousin told him not to. Sure enough after like a month he traded the car in.

If I ever got my hands on a real, live Type R, there's no way in hell I would ever sell it... o.O

I wish I didn't, but family comes first. Besides, I still see the car because my cousin bought it from me.

^ That had to hurt. :(

That was the deciding factor for me. I would get Type R caliber handling (The previous benchmark for front-drivers) factory boost, and 4 real doors with the MSP.

What do you guys think of the Lexus IS300? Expensive but seems reliable after research...Gas isn't as good but I'm ok with that. Would insurance be That bad?

The IS300 especially in sportcross trim reminds me of the P5, good looking, very good handling, but SLLLOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!

If you can put up with the relatively weak motor, I think they are solid cars that still look VERY nice till this day. Strap on a turbo and its party time!!! Just make sure you get the 5spd

personally i think that the lexus IS is a sick car but my opinion for a car to buy other than the msp would be the cobalt SS or a WRX-STI

Currently leaning towards the is300 with the wrx as the next best option.

I'd take a WRX over the IS any day. The Cobalt SS? Bwahaha!!1! If you do go with the 'Balt, get the SS/SC. You'd better get on it, though. It was recently canned...

Insurance is what killed it for me

a 16 year old kid in a lexus= too much money

but when i get older i think i will get it passed down to me

its an 01 lexus is 300 with 50,XXX miles

How much was insurance for you? Just wondering if its that much of a difference compared to a protege or wrx.
