hey quick question. did the msp come from the factory with keyless entry? when i got my car it didn't have it, hell my key was like a spare key. doesn't have a mazda symbol anywhere on it. well back to the original statement can i go to mazda and order one or somthing like that and also get a mada key?
Yep, it came with keyless entry. You should've gotten a key that has the standard metal 'stem' with all the groves on it, but a black upper portion with the Flying M logo on it. You also should've gotten a key-fob with three buttons -- lock, unlock, and panic.
I'd go back to the dealership and bitch, where the hell did the keyless entry stuff go?

Rush is correct, a key-fob should have come with the car. The keyless entry modules and such are likely still in your car, you just need a fob like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MAZDA-PROTEGE-Keyless-Entry-Remote-Item-D-62_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33723QQihZ006QQitemZ 160140827802QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW) to work the system. If you bought that one in the link, or any other for that matter, it would need to be programmed for your specific car. I think that costs a pretty penny to do at the dealership too.

I just bought a used MSP myself and it only came with the valet key. However, it had a custom alarm installed in it so I managed to find a dealer (by contacting the manufacturer of the alarm system) that could order me a spare keyless fob. (It turned out to be quite pricey for the replacement fob because it is a 2way pager.. i had one quote at $220 and another at $140).
Definately don't buy from a Mazda dealer -- it would be hugely over priced. I'd recommend checking if you have any aftermarket alarm system on the car -- if it was driven in a big city chances are it has one installed but the fob's were lost or not given to the dealer. Also if it has an aftermarket alarm/starter the factory keyless entry module may have been bypassed to connect to the aftermarket system (so a dealer replaced fob wouldn't work). Otherwise, livelyjay's idea of buying a knock-off replacement fob and programming it yourself is the best idea.

yea, i bought my car used and it had only the mazda key, but i bought it from the dealership i work at, so i went into the back room and dug around for a hour only to find a fat folder of info on my car and the keyless entry fob, which is cool! i only have 1 key and 1 fob though....
