Hi all, I just bought a 2003 MSP about a month ago. It has 36,000mi so who knows if the pads have been replaced (my guess is, at some point yes). I am experiencing a random brake gringing noise. The sound is the same as when pads wear past the point of no return, metal to metal. The noise is random, although it never happens when the brakes are car is cold. It happens after they warm up, however not every time I stop. I took of the front rims and inspected the pads, there is at least 50% pad left on either side. My guess is a warped rotor or rotors. Does this sound correct to you all? Any ideas or suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks, Brian

Take the wheels off, open up the calipers, remove the pads to inspect them, inspect the back side of the rotor as well. At 36000 miles, I doubt the brakes were ever changed.
I doubt it's a "warped" rotor.

I would think that it might be either a cracked pad, or the wire springs that hold the pads apart. Check to make sure you have 2 springs per caliper. Make sure they keep the pads off the rotor. More then likely though it will be the pads.

What's the verdict, cuz I am having the same problem and only in my left rear brake. This should gimme a starting point. Thanks.
Out of curiosity what brakepads are you using?
