Ok guys newest problem I am having...

I have recently fixed my leaky transmission. It was dripping small amounts to the point where I was driving around with about 1 quart of fluid missing. I noticed while driving that if I took my foot of the gas while driving in the higher gears (4 and 5 mostly) I could hear what I thought was transmission noise while coasting. It sounded almost like the gears just moving and I thought maybe it was because I needed to fix the trans. Well after fixing the leak and adding gear oil I still hear the sound whenever I let off the gas in the higher gears. It is not the typical trans "whirring" you get when you have solid motor mounts. It is a hard sound to describe but like I said before I thought it sounds like gears rotating together without enough oil. Also when in neutral the sound goes away. It definately has the characteristics of something rotating.

Any ideas?

leaking from the drain plug, I had a new LSD put in awhile back and the guy that put it back together stripped it a little so it dripped a little and then started getting worse. I just replaced the plug and added fluid.

It's most likely because when you had the LSD installed, the bearings were either not replaced, or the bearings were replaced but not the runs for them. That's what the noise is.

I had thought about that. Maybe the pilot/throw out...if it is because of that would there be damages associated with them making that noise?

I'm not talking about the pilot/throw bearings. I'm refering to the tappered bearings on the diff. itself.

The sound you're experiencing isn't anything like this (http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123677116), is it??

Nope, its not a clunking and its not anything suspension related. I am almost 99% sure that it is a transmission issue.

Ohh my bad. I dunno it might have something to do with that...and thats a hard thing to check. If that was the case what is a worst case scenerio if they are bad?
