well i finally got a chance to install my MS CAI and wow! the sound and the performance its amazing!!! the install went good aside from all the shit having to be removed behind the fog light that was a pain and then getting everything back on cause of the shield but all in all it took about an hour with a few brakes.

for the most part its not a bad install, the instructions are somewhat veg so you have to look around a bit but overall its pretty straightforward. and idk about the heat shield.

More of a water shield then a heat shield I would say. It covers the top half of the filter from water falling from top to bottom. Its great for washing your engine bay and the water wont directly land on the filter. Its one of the reasons its better then the after market ones so I would for sure put it on.

Install is easy but takes time to do it clean and correctly. One tip is to buy the tools they list since you do need all of them for various tasks. I think it was a 6 inch and 10 inch extension for a 10mm socket, 10mm box end wrench, then rest was basic like screw drivers and shit.

its definitely not a heat shield it stops rain from falling on top the filter

How would you guys rate the sound increase? I have been driving around in SR20DE cars with super loud intake roar with the CAI, and its gotten a little old over time. I test drove an MS3 and one of the nicest parts was the engine was so smooth and quiet. I was surprised how much of a Rumble the exhaust put out when I started it and during cruising but nothing that was bothersome. On my Nissan's my CAI is way way louder then any other noise, engine, exhaust or otherwise makes. I've seen some videos and hear some sound clips, too me it sounds like a vacuum cleaner sound, more of a whooshing noise then the deep rumble I get from my car now? Guess I'm old cause 5-10 years ago 15-20hp for 300 bucks for an import would be unheard of and I'd prob have it sitting here waiting for my car, but I drive clients around from time to time and cant have them listening to a very loud Ricer sound.

Search for sound clips. I love the sound and its loud when you want it to be but quite when you dont mash the peddle. If you jump on it you hear that woosh and then the pshhh from the BOV. It sounds bitchin and I wouldnt think o fnot having it let alone all the power and throttle response it added.

There is an audible difference but like you mentioned it is a whoosh sound. It is not something that i even notice anymore so for me it is not invasive at all. I consider it to be reasonably quiet but everything is relative.

Hi,

Does the MS CAI include the pipe that attaches to the Turbo itself? It seems very small and restrictive.

thanks

I bought a 10 inch extension before I did my install, like the instructions recommend, and then never needed it. I've used it on projects since but, for curiosity's sake, where did anyone use it on their install?

Oh man, that would have been much easier. I can't describe the contortion I had to do to get to those bolts.

You dont need a 12k mile warranty.

There is nothing on the CAI that will break so save your money. Read up on it and you will see the dealers do a shit job of installing any way. Taking your time and giving a shit because its your car will have it come out much better then what the dealer can do.

Trust me its easy to do and taking time will take you 2-3 hours but its somethign you must do any how since when it comes time to clean the filter what are you going to do? I wouldnt pay the dealer to clean your air filter so you best learn how to get in there by installing it and save your self money in the process.

does the mazdaspeed intake come with installation instructions??....becasue ii have never installed one before??...it doesnt look EXTREMLY complicated...

whitey4311

Yes it does, you can do it!

You will have to search on here for better instructions that include pictures and be able to contort your arm in wierd ways.

Well the directions dont say when to use which tools its just says remove this 10mm bolt ect

I guess you do have to think a little bit during the process, lol.

if you put your mind to it u can do anything grasshoppa!!! good point about cleaning the air filter, I wonder how much they would charge to clean it at the dealership, you bet your ass there will be plenty of suckers that will pay to get their asses wiped.

I hope who ever pays for a filter cleaning at a dealer gets a slap on the ass on the way out because you are clearly their Bitch.
