i was at an intersection and i pulled through it a little fast without realizing that there was a bump at the end of it, it bounced a lot but i didnt think much of it until i came to the next intersection and i tried to hit the brakes and was met with what felt like a brick instead of a brake pedal. the brakes will work, but only at low speeds and only if i stomp on them as hard as i can. i am on a road trip right now and i have to drive 250 miles home in the morning. what is wrong with my car, why are the brakes not working. my abs light is not on so i dont know whats going on.

anything physically wrong with your calipers/suspension? check your brake lines? make sure there are no brake fluid leaks. check the reservoir (by the firewall).

well i just tried to start the car and the rpms went up and then it died, so i am thinking that there is something more serious going on than just the brakes, am having it towed to a mazda dealer on monday and we will see what they have to say.

What about the brake booster line. That is by the brake fluid reservoir. If that came off it is possible the brake pedal would be real hard. It might also cause the car to die like it did because of the major vacuum leak.

Yeah I only read through half of his paragraph and thought brake booster. It explains the rick hard brake pedal and the rouh idle. Check the booster to see that the vac source is still attached.
