Im just using a stock air box with k&n filter and after driving for about 5 mins I noticed the plastic is really warm. Is this normal or is my engine overheating? I have been dropping down to 250 in rpms at idle speed.

Anything underhood is going to get pretty warm, including the intake.

Is your engine overheating?.....
From here, I'm going to say probably not, you'd know for a few reasons other than the intake getting warm.
Is the temperature guage reading hot?
Is the coolant over flow bottle overflowing or is the coolant abnormally high?

If not, you're probably ok.

Actually my coolant cap is cracked and doesnt properly seal it.

I continue to look at junky cars at my work to find a match but none of them fit.

And how hot does a aftermarket metal intake compare in temp to plastic OEM?

Go buy a cap. How expensive could they be?

I continue to look at junky cars at my work to find a match but none of them fit. Seriously, go buy a cap.

And how hot does a aftermarket metal intake compare in temp to plastic OEM?I can't even figure out why that would matter. The air temperature matters somewhat, which is why Cold Air Intakes draw from somewhere outside of the engine bay. If you got a Short Ram Intake, the air is as hot or hotter than what you're getting from the stock intake, but takes a much shorter, straighter path through a bigger pipe.

Allright I will get a cap.

And i just wanted to know about the temps because everyone tries to build cold air intakes with tubes and dryer house when those metals conduct heat so the cold air your sucking up just gets warmed up before it gets into the engine.

I will probably stay with my modified OEM system. It doesnt make much of a different then aftermarket besides price, looks, and sound.

the air doesnt really stay i nthe tubing long enough tobe affected. Its the area the air comes from thats most important

I see. Well I have one question and yes I have searched for it but all of the threads are pretty old maybe 3 years old.

Anybody running the hks intake anymore? Im looking for something with a bitmore growl to it but I dont need to buy a real intake with piping and all.

if thats the case, remove the inner resonator from the bottom or the airbox.

itll give u a deeper more SRI intake sound (from what ive heard)
