rear rattles.. i got one when i hit bumps.. i thought it was one of those arms that hold the rear sway bar to the shock.. i know there skinny and get loose over time and rattle like a mofo.. my wifes ex 99 prot did that.. it isin't the same sound but still, i took off the rear wheels and check for loose.. nothing.. then though it was the sway bar rear bushing, can't do.. i got some SU bushing on since last month.. and roled about 600 miles on them..

i heard the amp can rattle.. im gonna have to check it out more today.. but at first site, the amp looks solide..

anybody got an idea?

i already tieraped all the wires in the trucnk that were loose, and even checked out my license plate..

i HATE rattles..

may have found the rattle.

the C-clip thingy holding the handbrake cable near the caliper is missing.... makes the cable rattle and make noise when i hit bumps..

i dont know how THAT fell off though..

I have the same rattle, if you engage the e-brake a little does it go away? That is what happens with mine, but I just haven't had time or the energy to look.

yeah it seems to be less present with the e-brake on.... logically, that tightens the e-brake cable so yeah it should be the same thing as mine..

i wanted to find the rattle so bad that i broke those little plastic pins that hold plastics together when you fold the seat.. where the sub is.. i broke 3 out of 5.. (not bad, eh?) ..that would only add MORE rattles.. luckily, they had those in stock.. at almost 2$ each.. (boom08)

with my e-brake engaged the rattle reamians, just wondering if anyone has rattles; when the trunk is closed and/or when the car goes over bumps/potholes? any fixes?

foam tape behind the rear deck. Behind/around those tabs you broke.
Remove the amprack and throw some in there too.

Have any of you guys checked the spare tire hardware in the trunk? Some shit in there could be loose.

well it wasn't the source oif the problem... i was baffled (dunno) (freak)

i took everything out and even went to see if the rear shocks were well tighten up.. removed every damn thing and ever wheel..

the problem was..

rear brake pads... yep.. when i buffed them out to make em fit turns out it was a bit too loose and made the noise.. i swapped them with my other pair i got and everything SEEMS ok.. i went for a short bumpy ride to see and it didnČ't seem to be as noisy.. there are still some thumps and all.. but that was there before.. this one was a "klack klack"

The "klack klack" is the exact description of the noise, I CANT FIND it spent about and hour or more hitting the trunk lid its somewhere in there dont know what though. Hope someone does

im gonna order some new brake pads for the rear and buffed them out more gently and make em fit more flush.. maybe a little tighter... it seems to be part of the noise..

as for the klack klack, it seems to be from one side and does not have anything to do with anything in the trunk or the trunk itself..

rear suspension part somewhere maybe?? when i removed my wheels in the back i was using a "crow bar"(dunno how to spell it sorry) and was bending every bushing and inspecting parts and i did not come up with anything..

im really bafled.. (shrug)

Ahh, when you did your brakes last, did you remember to put back the anti-rattle/vibration clips on the pads?

there were none of those in the rear wheels to begin with... is there supposed to be something there??

all i saw was pads and calipers..

things that make you go "hmm" (nervous)

is it like a metal on metal "klack klack,"? coming from rear? when trunk is closed somewhat hard it can be heard? Wondering if it is the same for me

well i found a how-to fro brakes on here but it's for a P5.. but they do have a shim/anti-vibration thingy on them.. i wonder if the msp have them too.. when i first took the brakes off there weren't any so i don't know.

anybody can confirm this?

Thanks, also try (know this sounds bad) hitting (not hard enough to give vibrations through the trunk lid) while the trunk is open, for me anyway its seems when the frequency of the vibration matches what makes the noise i can hear the "klank klank." I will not sleep until i find this noise :)

well one thing i did was to tie rap every wire in the trunk lid.. nothing moves now.. i also did the inside of the trunk as well..

Yes. I believe there were 2 per brake. What they do is kind of hold the pads away from the calliper and keep them from constantly rubbing the rotor as well as anti-vibrate. They look like wire v's that install into tiny holes on the edge of the pads.

yeah well i went to the dealer to check it out. and yes im missing the shims, and the little V wire metal springs.. in fact .. i got 2 pads slapped in the calipers and thats it.. no wonder i got noises and fucked up rear brakes.. (eek2)

whats strange is the fact that the front has everything and all is well there..

looks like ray charles did my rear brakes before i got them..

http://www.forumspile.com/CantSee-RayCharles.jpg

soooooo anyways, i snapped.. i tired of going around in cirlcles with these brakes.. i bought the OEM ( yes you are reading right! OEM!!!! ) for with every bits and pieces including the little metal slides that the pads go on.. it comes with everything needed and will surely be better than what i got on now.. but im keeping my ceramic fronts (rockon)

one thing strange though.. those little Vs only come as one for each set of pads.. so you put them on the top part of the brakes.. not the lower part.. i was sckeptical about this but after opening 2 boxes of pads, they only had one pair of V springs..

Hmm, I guess I'm not missing mine then. I thought that there would be 2 springs per brake because there are 2 sets of holes.

yeah exactly, but the parts guy at the dealer said they put twoh holes so you can put the pads upside down and on any sides..

btw,

where is your v spring? on top or under the caliper??

so did it fix the problem?

fr0st
07-10-2007, 07:49 AM
didin't do it last night.. it rained like a mofo here all night.. and my freaking garage is loaded with stuff..

if it doesnt fix the problem.. atleast my rear brakes will be ok..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
well update,

i changed my brakes and install all the little new bits aand pieces.. one thing i gotta give about OEM.. it always fits better..(freak)

the klack klack has somehwat went away to be replaced by a lighter thump thump.. so damn many rattles now(even more since i moved and removed and put back stuff in the trunk) that i can't seem to find what is ok and whats not..

anyways.. i must add that the little V-springs DO help ALOT

07-13-2007, 02:01 PM
yeah.. a little.. i still got a klack klack.. but i need to get one hell of a bump to hear it.. it,s about 100 times better anyways..

but don't forget, i had parts missing in the rear brake assembly.. for the most of you, this may not be the case..

im still digging.. every cable is loose everywhere. it could be anything..

gonna remove the jack and tire stuff to see if it 's that.. again..

Look around see if your struts are leeking

hmmm the car has 40K miles... would be rather low for rear shocks..
i'll check but last time i look around there, i didn't see any leaks..

like i said, it depends on the bump.. if i go over a big bump or hole i will hear it.. other than that , just the normal thump..

found the rattle..

the rear sway bar link on the driver side was weared out "a little"..

changed them both.. no more rattles.. :)

i'm a happy camper now.
