How do you know which sensor has gone bad?

probably when your abs light comes on because your ECU is getting any info on wheel speed

Yes, that I know. But there are 4 sensors.

Ohhhh my bad dude....i misread your post.....I thought you were asking how do you know if ONE of them has gone bad...

im not sure how youd check them to see if they are ok...maybe check the voltage on each one.

get a scan tool
find out which one stopped reading by looking at live data.

How/where would I get a hold of one of these? Actually, what does it look like?

a dealership...unless you know people with higher end tools.

Just go to a Checker/Shucks/Kragen Auto store- they let you use scan tools for freeeeeeee :)

if a OBD2 scanner will do and i think they do, i bought one off ebay for like 80$.. it gives you a code and you have a little booklet to check for specific car codes.. it's the size of a digital volt meter.

well worth it :)

that may or may not work. it might be setting a generic abs code, not specific to the exact snesor. so you would have to dig furthur in to see which of the 4 is screwy.

check out http://obd-2.com/ they have a scanner/prog that I believe will show enhanced live data which should include wheel speed for each wheel. You should then be able to identify which has an improper reading. But, I've just been scoping this tool out and haven't purchased one myself so don't hold me to anything. I do plan on getting this tool myself very soon, I'll post info when I do.

EDIT: Forgot to include price. For ISO it's $144. Think shipping is free.

I just cleaned and lubed both my back brakes including the sensors. I thought that they were just dirty (they were covered in soot and dirt) but they lights came back on. I think I might just replace both the back ones and be done with it.

Hey,
Can you guys give me some guidance so I don't go to the shop and get ripped off??

I have a 1998 626 w/61K miles. My back passenger light has been out for a while now (help) (help) for whatever reason.......so tonight I was driving home from watching fireworks and my ABS light came on. I checked my parking brake (it's a stick) and it was completely off....I tapped my brakes and they were fine....I don't know what was going on. After I drove about 3-4 miles, the dash light went out (confused). The signals work and the indicator lights within the dash work, but I can no longer see them in the dark. As I was rounding the corner to my house, I noticed that I no longer have back lights at all!! (scratch) (scratch) The blinkers work on both sides, but no brake lights in the back, not even the one on top of the passenger seat.

I checked the manual and it says to take to a dealer asap, which of course is the cause of my stress. Could it just be the light issue?? A bulb or wire or something just as simple?? Or am I in for (shocked) ??

Any suggestions and/or guidance is appreciated.

Thanks!
