I refuse to use the GPS. I'm perfectly happy looking at the map before I start to drive and figuring out where I need to go. *^_^*

BTW, that only works if you know where you are. :)

Indeed, and fortunately it's hard to get lost around here since there are signs everywhere.
I know people who never take long road trips in their GPS equipped cars. Instead they start plotting on their GPS to get to the neighborhood Costco where they have already been to fifty times. They were born and raised in this area, and you'd think they would know all the roads in Northern Virginia by now.
Technology is great, but often times they make dumb people dumber. *^_^*

I like GPS because it tells me when I am to arrive somewhere. It's like it knows the future. I used my GPS on a road trip to Hilton Head SC. I raced it there. I got there 14 minutes before it said I would when I first left.

i kind of like my gps when im going somewhere ive never been granted i can use a map but its soo much easier to be able to just put in an adress and route myself there and if your car needs survice or gas you can find the closest one. Granted it should never come to you looking for gas at the last moment but its still a nice feature incase someone is a bone head or something like that. Hell i had to use it to get home one night when some of my friends took me all over the place and tried to get me lost boy did i show them.

So I'm not the only one? I love racing my Navi, especially on long trips. The one in my Pilot has learned my driving habits now, and no matter what I do I can't beat it. Mazda's doesn't work that way, so I can still race it! :)

Ive never had a navi system, always seemed like a waste of money when maps are free at AAA. Now I have google maps on my phone, very useful if I get lost and need directions, tough to use without pulling over though

I have an older Garmin Colormap for my motorcycle. I used to to re-find roads I wanted to go back to, or get me to a major road when I was lost. Honestly, I got it for my wife. She does a few fraud investigations in NOVA, DC, and Richmond every year. She can plug in the address and it tells her were to go. She can go from site to site by just plugging in the address. If traffic is assed up, she hits detour and it takes her another route. Google maps/mapquest is pretty good for some stuff, but sometimes on the fly is needed.

It doesnt work when the car is moving is why. I have NAV as well and love mine since I do home health physical therapy and have to find 10-13 houses every day.
It is disabled once the car is moving is why you cant seen the buttons.

I love this forum, but sometimes I have to wonder how many members passed English in high school. keke~ *^_^*
That being said... I used to tease my friends. I'd be like, "how could you not get an A in English? You were born here!" (since I spent 1/2 of life in Asia) I think I was being a jerk. =p

I don't think you were being a jerk. I think you are right in what you said. (this is not pointed to anyone in particular) If you have graduated high school, or at the very least attained some grade level above 8th, you should be able to effectively write and use the English language. I am not talking about silly typos and spelling errors. I am talking about the very basic rules of English. (non usage of contractions, sentence structure, punctuation)
I know this is not English class. I know that a car forum is informal and laid back. Keep in mind however, that what you say, the manner in which its conveyed, and your attitude, is how you are perceived. I have friends who type like cavemen but are extremely intelligent. You'd never get a chance to share in their knowledge because you would automatically dismiss them as morons. On the flipside, my posting may bare some semblance to actual rule following yet I am a card carrying pudding sucker.
I know, who cares what other people think about you? Well, if you don't care, no one else will either. It's not about being Mr./ Mrs. popular. It's about receiving the respect and courtesy you deserve. It's what makes an enthusiast site such as this, that much better. You get out of it what you put into it. You type junk, you'll get it back.

I agree 100%. Since one's writing is the only medium available here, I for one also believe that it's vital to be as clear as possible. I have seen too many posts where the writer may have been well-intentioned, but I don't even want to bother reading some of the posts that have absolutely no punctuation whatsoever. The writer maybe a well educated adult; nevertheless, if his/her writing proficiency does not surpass the level that of a 7th grader, I might mistake that person to be an immature teenager who has seen a little too much MTV growing up.
On a lighter note, regardless one's writing prowess here, I see most of the members to be respectful and unique personalities, each contributing to the forum in his own way. *^_^*
OMG Swamp said semblance. Think that is the first time I have seen that word spelled out.
On another forum I was in a religious debate with another member and one of his responses was a run on sentence that could have been broken into at least 2 paragraphs. The funny thing was he was trying to debate evolution and the existence of dinosaurs which made him look like a dumb shit to me in the first place. I got more flames asking him to punctuate than I have ever got in my life.
If you want people to read what you have to say and have some respect for your intelligence then take the 2 minutes to read over what you post and make spelling and grammar fixes. This isn't a l33t haxxor board :(

If I can do it, anyone can. Hell, it took me 5 years to get out of highschool. Add the fact I have Literal and Neglect Dyslexia, and I am virtually a moron!
I have some sort of Dyslexia, mostly numbers and it takes me 5 minutes to read any word hyphenated across 2 lines. Even got a parking boot one time because I put money in parking space 24 instead of 42 where I was parked :(

I'd feel badly for you if you had to look at hexadecimal numbers at work like me. *^_^*
I do, actually, but only for web color codes. I can handle those because I can translate in my head and know that 3d75ac is going to be blue but I have trouble going from reading something on the screen and saying out loud what the characters are in the right order. Like a eye to mouth failure.

Thank God I don't have your job. The only base 16 numbers I look at are the MAC ids. If I have to look at a number and know what the corresponding color is, then call me color blind! Darn~ I can't remember what this thread was about anymore. My dog probably has better short-term memory than I. >_<

Google Mobile FTW~! *^_^*
I guess because I live in Hawaii I really don't see the need for GPS/navigation etc. Google maps and my handy map book can almost always get me where I need to go if I'm not sure where the place i need to go is. And if that fails I also have a cellphone to call friends for family. I know, I know, outrageous.. but hey it works.
