sorta like the magnetic drain plug... i guess.
i'm surprised that it can catch particles while the oil is flowing through so fast...

Not a bad idea, but not really necessary. Also, you can't use it on the standard MS3 filter setup, it only works with a spin-on, not cartrige type.

any particals that make it to your filter should get filtered by your filter (uhm), unless your filter isn't doing its job. those filter magnets are a waste of money. if anything gets trapped by that magnet on your filter, your filter isn't doing its job and should be replaced anyway.

you'd be surprised what gets through even the best filters.

you'd be suprised what your engine can pass before it gets destroyed - really though, if that magnet picks anything up thats big enough to damage your engine, your engine is already damamged and that magnet isn't going to save it.

You all would be surprised by the amout of oil that DOESN'T get filtered when running......... Filters are there only for the REALLY big Heavy pieces, everything else goes right pass the filter.

thats my point exactly - and even with all that poor filtering, modern engines will go, what, 200,000+ miles? (i personally have had engines do 250,000+ before getting rid of the car - and i DIDN'T get rid of the car because the engine went bad)
waste of money

My motor lived through 5 VICS screws bouncing around in the cylinders and still runs strong. I'm not worried about tiny particles my filter might miss

I thought of getting one, but then wondered why no one used one.

Hmm maybe the oil pan one is worth a try, i'm wondering though, that during the oil change after you've taken off the pan magnet, rest of the crud will flush down with the oil that's being drained...

I have always wondered about these magnets as well. One thing is for sure though that heavy duty trannys in tractor trailer tucks have magnets on the bottom when you open them up so it is probly a good idea to used these things then.
