I was driving on the highway, doing 110km/hr when a piece of plywood came flying off a pick-truck, struck the passengers side and the flipped and shattered our windshield! Was blind for 2-3 seconds! See the pictures.

I had this EXACT same thing happen to me while driving back from Miami a couple years back in my old P5. The truck was actually exiting the highway when the plywood became airborne. It struck my bumper square on the edge, which put a big gash just left of the grill. The bottom grill was crushed in. Needless to say, I had to pay for the repairs myself, because it wasn't more than my deductible.
Sorry to see this happen to your CX-7...

F-N South Florida; no one ties down their stuff. The first week that I moved here, I was driving on 595 behind a miata. In front of him was a flat bed with a pick-up truck on it. All of a sudden, the cap on the pick-up truck flies off about 30 feet in the air and comes crashing down in the lane in front of us. Was totally surreal, like watching it in a movie. Miata swerves one way, we swerve another. Fortunately, no one hit it, but we did see all of the cars behind us come to a stop. The kicker is that the flat bed driver pulls to the side for a moment and then keeps going!
I've been here for almost 2 years now and I've seen all kinds of stuff strewn across the highway. From bags of garbage to couches. My wife actually ran over an 8' aluminum ladder in her last car! Welcome to South Florida...

The weirdest item I saw was on a windy day heading up a 65 MPH zone. There was a truck with wood chips flying out all over the place, which was annoying, at best. It was an old commercial truck with a wood top part on a low bed dump truck. They were also hauling a wood chipper, which was scooting around, since it too was in disrepair, with one tire low. I backed off since it felt like a wood chip rain storm and that trailer looked dangerous. That was when the top lifted off the truck, creating a "brown out" of wood chips. The old wood topper flew up 15 feet into the air over my vehicle and onto the road.
This new object on the road was greeted with a great big sqealing sound as a silver Tahoe drove through it, smashing headlights, grille, fog light, windshield, hood and the remaining large pieces scratching both sides for the entire length of the vehicle and finally taking out one taillight. That was one angry customer. His Tahoe still had the 21 day permit in the window. It was a week old.
You never know what kind of crap is driving on the road waiting to create and accident.

I saw one of those little forklifts that hooks on the back of a flatbed fall off on the highway one time. Not a pretty picture.

That sucks micpar. At least you two were ok. I always have thoughts of somehting flying thru the windshiel and impaling us. I am so paranoid that I:
• do not drive behind anything I cold possibly see falling off/out of a bed
• I do not get alongside 18wheelers due to talks with truck drivers whose exploding tires have blown people's cars off the road
• Do not drive in or let others put me in their blindspots
• Actually use the 2-4 second rule (yes I count using the lines on the highway)
• Do not change lanes when someone is occupying the lane next to the empty one if I am in their blindspot or they are going faster than me (possible to try to occupy the same lane at the same time by both parties)
can go on, but I will not bore...

Oh yeah that does remind me now that you said that Wendy... when you add speed MAN does the momentum kick up! I saw a dually dodge hit a piece of truck tire on the road an it kicked up and bent his huge, strong nerf bar step into the bottom of his passenger door!!

I've had a softball sized rock thrown by some kids on the edge of the highway hit my hood and then my windsheild at face level. Scared the piss out of me. Cops had several reports of cars getting struck by then and finally caught them.

*shifts in seat* I never did anything like that when I was a kid living near a tressel that crossed a parkway... (naughty) (dunno)
On the real though, glad to know your ok, been scared like that myself on a number of occaisions, and I was riding with a friend in the passenger seat of his Jeep Cherokee like 6-7yrs ago when passing an 18 wheeler who's tire blew out and blew us off the road nearly rolling the truck! Luckily my friend was a good driver and we didn't but not a good look! I swear I thought we were dead, first it sounded like a gunshot than a huge piece of rubber was flying at my door and we were swerving out of control onto the side of the road!
