i was wondering what the stock offset is so i dont scrap and so that i know what kind of offset i can get when i buy some rotas i was looking at 215/40/17 w/40+ offset... im rolling on tein s-tech springs and thats all the suspension im running...and also i was wondering ive heard of +35, +38, +40, +45, and +50 and is it the higher the number the farther the wheels stick out? or what?

the lower the number the farther the wheel sticks out. i'd guess that you'd want at least a +45 offset or higher

55mm offset would be too high for a 7.5" wide wheel. Stock wheel is 17x7. 48mm is perfect for 17x7.5 for the sedan with clearance to the strut and fender well. There are quite a few guys on 45mm offset lowered that may rub with passengers in the back.

Stock MSP offset is 55mm
i stand corrected
so, a 40 will be too low without fender modificaiton

I concur. I ordered wheels with a +50 offset and they wouldn't clear the front brake calipers on my MSP.
I have the 03 not the 03.5 So just be careful and if you really wanna find out take your car to a wheel shop and they can measure your offset.

so then a 48 would be a problem?... i was looking into getting the rota boost wheels, black with a red lip 17 x 7.5 +45/+48 4h x 114.3

offset doesn't matter so much as spoke design, at least when it comes to interfering with the caliper. offset has more to do with fender and strut clearance.

Hmm.... well then. everything i said before. but instead of the offset being my problem. it was the spoke design. either way. I still don't have new rims and i'm kicking myself in the ass for going on vacation for it.

I'm running +42 offset, stock height MSP, with 225/45-17 tires. They rub with passengers in the back and I rolled what little rear fender we have. Going with a +48 offset will be fine if you run the stock tire size. You should even be safe with 225 wide tires. The easiest way to tell is just get under your car and measure. Measure the distance between your tire and the edge of the wheel well. Best bet would be to have a friend or two sit in the back seat to push it down, then measure from the end of the fender lip to your tire. That will tell you how much farther you can move out before you rub.

can you elaborate on this "offset" cuz i don't get it. do i need spacers to balance this thing right or ........ ?????
does it mean the wheel is deeper inward and needs spacers to push it out a bit or .......... ???
lmk
thnx
