~JoJo~

I am looking into getting my true red speed3 and would like some background on how much I am looking at.

Please help me with the following:

sport/GT/color

1. Buy/Lease
2. Amount Total
3. how much down payment
4. APR%
5. Payment/month

For example, the msrp on the sport is 22875, you kicked it down to 22500 OTD, 10,000 down payment, 7% apr, and monthly payment is $320 (just an example)

I was doing some searching around and see that there are no good finance program available through mazda. I would have to go find one in my local banks. I guess since my wife works for the city, the credit union is the way to go, unless I pay the whole damn thing off.

If you have the luxury of using a CU then that's your best bet. Otherwise get a quote from lendingtree eloan and take it to the dealer and give them the chance to beat the rate. Most dealers get their loans wholesale and will give you a much better rate if you finance through them then if you just show up at the local Bank of America or whatever.

You may be able to get an '07 GT for 23K (depending on your area) because it is the end of the '07 model year.

I would suggest working with the dealers (make sure it's not just one) through the internet/email as you can usually get a better deal - unless you just love to "haggle" in person and are good at it! Remember, you are on their "turf" if you are on the dealerships ground.

Work a couple of dealers against each other or decide on your price and offer one that and "walk" or deal with another dealer if you don't get it.

Good luck!

Thank you all very much for this thread.

I am in email negotiations with several dealers in the area. They're all higher than these prices. There are at least 6 of these cars, right color and everything, in the area. I should be able to get a better deal than this, especially with the 08's right around the corner.

Here's my latest price for a MS3 GT with no other options:

$200 over Invoice $23,825 [sic] including dest charge of ($595)
Plus
$1,191.25 5% Sales tax
$194 dealer fee
$ 36 for new plate
$ 50 title fee
$ 29 state inspection sticker fee

total out the door price is $25,325

So what are you all doing to get pricing under MSRP. I've been to 3 dealers in the area and they all are telling me sticker and no incentives. I would really like to get one of these for invoice or S-plan, but I've had no luck.

Thats not great either. Thats very good though. There blowing out regular 3's at 500 under invoice and as soon as an 08 is sitting next to one of the 100's of 07's left here in FLA. Then I will make my deal, the dealers think they have Vipers or Z06's or something with them dealing on prices. Saving 500 bucks on a year old car is not a good deal. Americans Hate Hatches! Thankfully I want one, but am not willing to get ripped off. Im glad the 08's are starting to show up on lots. Even if I get an 07, the 08 give me haggle room. Plus if I get an 08 it will be cool to get a car right off the truck. I would tell them no one is to drive it and that I want it still wrapped up in plastic!! So either way I'll; be happy, but i been waiting so long another week or 2 till they show up is worth it too me.

To get the best deal...do NOT go to the dealer. Request a couple of internet quotes and dealer contacts through a site like Edmunds. You will be dealing with an internet sales person, and not a dealer on the lot. You will almost always get better deals that way - unless you are a fantastic negotiator. (See my earlier post). But once again...do NOT go to the dealers lot until you've agreed upon a price. Stay on your turf (the Web) and not theirs!

Good luck.

I agree with sgordon i got my good deal beacuse i called up and talked directly to sales managed and asked him what he was willing to let the car go for over the phone. i had test drove car earlier in week i just told sales person i was looking to buy in next week not prapared to buy today im looking to see what fits what dosnt and of corse im looking at other brands beacuse if they see your looking elseware they are more likely to come down.

The Motley Fool Investors have a great plan for getting a new car. A lot of it is focused on how to find the right car for you, so if you already know you want a Ms3 sport, you're 80% done already.
http://www.fool.com/car/car12.htm

I used their Fax Attack method, but used email, the MazdaUSA.com website, and individual dealer websites instead.

Basically, I said, here's the car I want to buy, and listed all the options and color choices. I'm taking competitive bids, so send me your best price, including everything (tax, title, registration, tags, etc.)

I gave them a few days to respond. It took some effort to make sure the quotes were all exactly the same. (Does it include the inspection sticker? A full tank of gas?) Then I took the three best prices. I emailed #3, told him he'd have to beat price #1. If he did, I took that price to #2, and asked him to beat it. And so on, ratcheting the price down. That got me about another $500.

Be sure you get your own financing lined up. I used Capital One's Blank Check, through Costco and got a pretty good rate. Then the dealer beat it. Ok with me.

I ended up paying $1k under MSRP for my GT, or $600 over invoice (plus tax + tags). Not the best deal in the history of the world, but quite respectable. Just a few months ago, a friend of a friend bought his sport for $700 over MSRP.

The big thing about this method for me was, I'm sure I did better than I would have if I just walked into the local dealership. I'm not a great negotiator face-to-face. No, I'm probably average at best. Using email really leveled the playing field.

Also, when I wrote back to tell them their price was too high, it wasn't just my opinion, which the salesman could question. His price was higher than the other dealer. Period. There's no way he can argue with that, especially after I made sure the quotes were exactly the same.

I'll recommend this method to anybody. It would probably work even better if it was a much more common car. A generic Civic, Focus, Camry, Accord, etc. Every dealer has a hundred of those in stock. With the MS3GT in silver, there were just five in my state.

Too bad so many people around the rest of the country don't have a cool dealer like this. I hear that most people can't even get a test ride. That would most definitely piss me off. You have to remember what mazda went through with the 3rd Gen RX-7s, people would come in, test drive them and total them then not have the insurance themselves to pay for it, Mazda went to the point that you had to have 10,000$ down just to test drive it.

I test drove an 08 Ms3 today.

Ok now that I have changed my pants.....

What is the deal with the "market value markup"? This dealer is marking up the sticker 1400.00 just because it "is a rare car". Another dealership here marks it up 5 grand? WTF?? I told them that was pretty bold considering I could do a nation wide search and fly anywhere to pick up the car.

I had a blast on the drive. I pulled up next to a Cobalt SS at 65MPH on the highway and we both punched at the same time. Not much competition he was in my rearview. I let off at 95 and he flew past me a few seconds later. Handling was incredible and I was surpised at how well it got off the line without loosing traction. Keep in mind I drive a N/A P5. The sales guy said they are not allowed to drive the car for whatever reason. I said no you need to drive this. I pulled over and he got in and drove it like it was stolen. He didn't seem to care about uh that thing called break-in, Maybe that is why they are not allowed to drive.
It has room for the kids like my P5 and the 08 WRX impreza make me ill. I will be getting this car for sure but I don't care where I buy it from. Maybe the fax attack method?

None of them asked.

I'm not sure if I would have given up the name if they did ask. My go-to line was, "If you were the low bidder, would you want me telling everyone your price?" Then I'd get back on the focus of getting this dealer's price down. But I didn't have to use it.

I would think your negotiation price will determine how quickly the cars are selling in your local market. Here in Central Texas Austin, Temple, Waco, Killeen area there are a million college dudes and young military making money so they all want this car and they sell quick. It was hard to get the $600, hell it was hard not to pay MORE than msrp! lol:eek:

Yeah, if they don't have the car, it's tough to get a great deal. The best thing would be to go to the dealer that does have the car, and make a deal there.

they had it,they traded the CX-9 so it would be in the showroom to attract people.

not to mention they should have given me a deal,i told them if they can get another i want it too.

they found it,and we get it it tomorrow.

2 black mica MS3's FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MS3 GT, sunlight silver, no Nav.

1. Buy
2. Sticker $24,650 Paid: $23,200
3. 60 month loan

Found two dealers in the area with the exact same car and played them off each other, all over the phone. Best thing to remember is show them you aren't afraid to walk away from a car.

i visited the local mazda dealership last week and test drove the mazda3 hatchback and the speed3 sport. they were on my list of cars to review... and after driving the speed3 i struck through the rest of the cars on my list. the dealer had a couple of 2007's and has just started getting the 08's. the price they quoted me is:
$22,440 +tags & tax
i have my own financing setup that i will use unless they have a lower financing incentive.
my question is tomorrow i will call the dealer and either give him a price i will pay or just ask if he can go lower. if i give him my price what should i offer? they quoted 22,440 which is slightly below invoice... and below MSRP. i would like to pull the price down to 21000 or 20,400 or lower. did anyone get a price lower than 22,000 for a ms3 sport?

mazda5owner: couple of things. 1st, read & follow what dalesd wrote. damn good advice, every word of it. the internet is your friend and so is the internet sales manager.
2nd: hurry up and test drive the damn thing already! you'll fall in love w/ it- i garontee, like the cajun chef used to say.

now this what i did back in march. emailed/called all 3 local dealers, found out who wanted to deal and who wanted to be greedy. 1st dealer said 'come in, test drive it and let's talk- it'll be msrp or better.' 2nd said msrp and not a penny below, and no red gts on the lot. 3rd said 'we sell em at the price it says on the winda [sic], if you can find a better price go for it.' i did.

ended up going w/ 1st
true red GT, no options, build date feb 07 [has the latest ecu flash]
msrp $ 24550
my price $ 23500
they wanted $ 700 for a dealer fee, that got nixed early on.
standard 6.5% FL tax + $140 tag/title
wanted to give me $1000 for my 1991 honda crx si 91,000 miles, sold it on my own for $2200

looking back, i could have waited closer to the end of the model year, but i'm oh-so glad i got it when i did! now go get yours, you won't be sorry. all 5 major car mags write: "best bang for the buck" guess what? it's true! (yippy)

Invoice should be $20,898 on a 2008 sport. msrp should be $22,340 on the 2008 sport. I would try to get it at about $100 over invoice so offer invoice and then he is gonna say a higher price but try to settle on a price of about 100 over invoice. I emailed two dealers for quotes and one didn't give me a quote and the other gave me a quote of 500 over invoice and said by spring they will be 200-300 over invoice. Maybe you won't get 100 over invoice but at least try to get it within 500 of invoice.

I wanted just a bare bones MS3. The only option that came on the car was wheel locks. Sales tax here in the county is about 6.5%.

You think so? IDK, some other people here are paying around $22,500 for the sport models. I was hoping to get it at/or a little above invoice since I was paying cash.

I know how it goes though, You're more likely to get a better deal if you finance rather than paying cash because the dealer makes more money through you financing. Oh well, I'm happy with the deal I got.

I disagree. I would say you get a better deal if you pay cash. It is easier for the buyer to negotiate a total price than negotiate payments since there are more sneaky things they can do to payment plans. If your arguing over a single price things are simpler. That's my opinion anyways.(potkettle

I paid cash too, and the best I could get was $24,500 (apprx) out the door...

They aren't selling them more much less than a 300-500 less than MSRP around here.

oh com'n really?

anyways, just wanted to see if I got a good deal.

I paid 24k cash.

I am loving the car right now and seriously I can not think of one thing I that I need to add to the car, except perhaps a darker tint and a nice wax job.

You made it sound like you were getting the car for next to nothing in a previous post, so I guessed low. I would say 24K is fair. Not a great deal, but not a bad one either.

don't forget I am in Cali though. The day before I bought mine, the cheapest one I found was a 23500 GT, with 15k and no navi. For 500 more, I got a lot more stuff =p

I worked for Mazda at the time:

Speed3 GT Black Mica MSRP 24550 in OCT of 06 invoice less holdback at that point was $22110 add $560 for full custom invisaguard, 1st in the nation according to autotrim design!, and carbon injected 3M tint. 5% WI sales tax and $100 unwaivable prep and service fee. And an overvalued trade at $7700. I set the deal up for myself at my bosses' computer and ordered the car. I even pulled it off the truck when it arrived!!! Wheee!
