i posted this in the 2.0 section but it seems not enough people drill down that far. anyways, any one used a deck plate to accomodate longer rods on the fs while using off the shelf pistons? if so, is this something any machine shop can do? or what are the thoughts on doubling up the thicker cometic head gasket? this would give a compressed thickness of .148in while the k1 long rods at 5.4 inches are just .085in longer than stock. if the stock head gasket is .030in then you have added .114in by doing so which is enough room for the long rods and off the shelf pistons, which by my rough calculations (which include a few numbers i had to work backwards to get so they may not be perfectly accurate) would make it so your compression would still drop by .5 from what the pistons are rated at. in short, double up on .074in gaskets, use 5.4in rods and off the shelf 8.5:1 pistons and get an 8:1 compression ratio. maybe my calculations are way off and completely skewed but i think they sould be close. i have seen mixed reviews on the doubling of head gaskets and would like some opinions. would cometic or anyone else make a custom .148in thick head gasket for one person, or a few people, if i'm on track and others like it?

i talked with jdm sam and he said that if you use stock like pistons and the long rods you would end up have the ring lands come out of the block.

well, not exactly...you need custom pistons (by MPNick) for the long rods...

This is what happens if you use long rods on pistons made for stock lenght rods:

stock lenght 5.315
long rod: 5.400

You will have .085in over the block
