View Full Version : Need to Replace/Rebuild Turbo

I have an MSP that is leaking oil through the compressor side. I need to either rebuild or replace it. I'm guessing the cheapest route is to replace.
I dont plan on upgrading at this point b/c I have alot of other things my money is going towards. I dont want anything rediculously expensive and I will probably get most of what I need on E-bay. Right now I'm taking it easy and shifting where I hardly use any boost.
What are some options? Someone told me I should just get a Greddy T3/T4 turbo and put in on there. Would I need an adapter plate? What should I look for when buying a turbo?
Thanks for any help.

THE T3/T4 WONT BOLT RIGHT UP I THINK. The last time i checked the only drop in was a t25 or t28 turbo.

oem at the dealer costs a house...
get one from a vendor or on ebay..
they go for 950-1000$ and there exactly what you have on so no fitting things and shit like that..
that will be the route im taking...when it blows

The stocker is a t2 flange so you can only bolt on a similar turbo to that flange. You'd have to modify or replace the stock manifold to run a t3 turbo.

Could I just uninstall the T-25 turbo and bolt up a T-28 Garrett RS turbo? Or is there more involved. I need to know ASAP b/c I plan on buying a turbo tomorrow and installing it on the MSP this weekend.
What all is involved in uninstalling the system and reinstalling it? What else do I need to make a new T-28 turbo work correctly on my car at 8-10psi?

you will prolly need to use your stock wastegate bracket or the whole wastegate on the new turbo.

first off you gonna have to use the stock wastegate for the t28rs unless you plan on having a stock boost of 14psi with the t28rs. second you need to reclock the t28rs and fitting is gonna be really tight for the t28rs unless you clock your turbo perfectly i mean angle of the dangle and crap. if its a little off like mine was your radiator fan is gonna be pita to get to fit in without gouging the radaitor fins, also if its not a perfect clock on the turbo be ready to bend both of your water lines for the turbo. there is only one person here had that perfect clock and it was 505zoom. lots of space for his rad fan and didn't have to bend his water lines. other than the wastegate and perfect clock you should be good. Oh yeah not to sure about the intake im pretty sure if you got the stock intake pipes you need to modify cuz the t28rs compressor side is 3" and i know the stocker is far from 3".

Only the oil feed line has to be vertical...correct? When you say reclock the turbo....how do you recommend doing that. What bolts do you loosen and what do you do exactly, rotate it?
Is it also good to drain my oil before doing the turbo swap?

yea the oil line is gonna be pointing pretty much straight up.
loosen the bolts so that the housing can rotate.
both sides of the compressor housing i think i forget its like midnight here and im a bit grooggy but basically all your gonna do is match the stocker. just rotate the housing till it looks like your stock turbo.
yea would be nice to run new clean oil in your new turbo.

I had the same prob. Had 3 turbos go bad last month. Got 2 turbos repaired for almost $700. Limit Engineering in AZ did the turbo work. Car runs awsome now. Please DO NOT BUY A TURBO from EBAY. The supposidly "new" turbo spewed oil the first day I had it put on.
Limit Engineering charged $350 for the turbo repair and I had both turbo back via 3 day select for another $40 shipped. Probably the cheapest route that I should of done in the first place.
Anyone know how much rebuilt T25 are going for? I don't need 2 lol

Yeh I quickly found out that "Garrett" T28RS turbos they sell on ebay are fakes. Probably made in China. I did photo comparisons and it doesn't come close. I did find a real Garrett T-25 turbo on ebay that came off a MSP. 15k miles use they say. We'll see. Good thing about ebay, if you u use paypal...its insured. Product isn't what they say it is...you get your money back.
