View Full Version : Is this a 2001/2002 626 Intake Manifold? Yes? No?

I recently ordered a 626 Intake Manifold from a junkyard, its advertised as a 2002 626 Intake Manifold so I went by my trusted repair shop to see how long would it take to swap them and the mechanic said that the manifold wasnt gonna bolt since a few things were on different places.
Im just wondering if theres some stuff that has to be relocated? He said he could try and do it for me, but I told him I wanted to make sure I had a 2001/2002 manifold before he did anything to it.
Here's some pics. What are the differences between both manifolds? Anything that I could check to see which one I have?
Any tips, suggestions, answers are appreciated :)

Can't view those pics from work ... but you have to get creative w/the EGR tube (IIRC, one from the donor car will work) and vacuum lines.
It also lack VICS & VTCS, so you have to delete them w/o setting off the CEL.

It probably is but there are a few different versions of the 626 manifold. There is only one that is supposed to give us a power boost and Ken @ Protegegarage found out which one that was. Im not sure myself so I cant help you from there, otherwise you have a 50/50 chance. You actually might be worse off with the california model IM's that came from various 626's.

I dont mind about the EGR since theres no emission on Florida...I can just block it, right?
How do you exactly do that? Remove the VICS and VTCS?
The Intake manifold looks similar to the one that Ken sells, but I cant tell from that small picture if its the same manifold.

My advice would be to not pay a mechanic to do it...It's not that hard to do...He'll charge you for 6-8 hours at least...and you might just learn a thing or two in the process.
It does look like it's got VTCS which tumbles the air during warmup to heat the block faster....You'll want to take those butterfly valves out for sure...#1 power robber with the FS-DE Intake manifold...Other than that you need to do some research, and not jump into things you are not 100% on...Look in the how to for the VTCS Removal...It will open your eyes to the differences between VICS and VTCS, and the reason to remove it the VTCS....

I unbolted everything from the manifold and snapped a few extra pics.

Im still not sure if its the right manifold.
Proto, I would try to do it myself but I would hate myself if I broke anything. I also dont have enough tools to do such job I think. I might get one of my friends to do it, and I can help...but theyre always busy with their own cars most of the time.

Get a picture looking down into the runners. I can't really tell for sure but does look like it's got VTCS flappers. Here are some pics of mine, it's off a 2000 626 with std. emissions (non-California). The California cars got VTCS.

Looks like he got the califorina manifold. Single runners and vtcs flappers.

it's a 2002 626 manifold... it DOES have VTCS
didn't I say before to GET THE 2001 MANIFOLD?
so now you got to do the VTCS removal bullshit which is time consuming
anyway, make sure you use that fuel rail as it's going to fit better than the stock one

Thanks a lot, I gotta get a few tools and a bolt to cover te hole and Ill be ready to swap the new manifold soon
thanks again for all the replies
one more thing...I will still gain horsepower with this manifold after removing the VCTS right? Like comparable gains to the protegegarage manifold? Correct?
