Ok, so heres my story,....i just got my MSP (still has 30 day tag on it) and it is completely bone stock except the wheels. (18'' Motegi's)...i sold the other project car i had for $2000.00. So now i have 2000 to do whatever i want too and i need some ideas as to what upgrades and mods to do first? so if you guys could start throwing out some of your fav. mods for me to think about it would be great because i just dont know where to start. Keep in mind....its stock, even the LSD(shocked)

I think best mod I did so far was the dsm afc. Also pretty good for supporting future mods.

I am in the process of a rebuild though.

i'd go with exaust since it seems to unleash alot as well as open doors to other mods..

you can't turn up the boost without opening the exaust first.. same goes for the intake.

my mods are this (in the order)
1- intake drop in filter since there isin't much gain in having a AEM although soiund is cool thats what other members said anyways..
2-hard piping, better to have piece of mine and not have any leaks...and it suposedly spools better... i think i MAY have a little better spool up time..
3- better engine mounts.. mine are in the mail.. and those are necessary for my next step
4-removing cats or full exaust.. with this i should have more boost, maybe 7 or 8.. dunno..
5-installing a new WGA from ATP.. which apparently ups the boost to 8 psi

6- EMS.

thats just my opinion, maybe others will have good ideas too :)

Upgrade ur Front motor mount and either a custom SMIC of FMIC setup....to start then upgrade ur exhaust system GLH or Virbrant..

1. midpipe or exhaust
2. intake
3. SMIC or FMIC
4. DSM AFC
5. motor mounts or inserts

do a Fmic, and an intake which lets you get a BOV at the same time when you get a kit. Then spend like nothing and go to a local exhaust shop or yourself, remove the cats or gut them actually or put a small piece of piping where it used to be. Then you'll still have money left. You could even buy the Unichip for about $600 and get jdmsam to tune it and you'll have a nasty little MSP. Also it's about $500-600 to have MPNick upgrade your turbo internals and p-n-p your manifold and s-pipe. I wish I had $2000 to burn! I would get a built motor and a haltech or unichip.

Whoe is MPNick and how does someone go about getting their turbo upgraded like that?

a good amount of people have that done including me. There are threads about it just do a quick search. I don't remember the exact cost but the guys name is MPnick on here. He does the MPI ems.

I 've got the gt28r internal parts, you can get gt28rs internal parts and there may be more options I don't really remember.

Thank you. I'll do a search for it. Does it make a good performance difference?

2-Gauges - Wideband and boost

3-Manual boost controller

4-AWR engine mounts

5-Hiboost FMIC w/ hardpipes

6-Greddy type RS or HKS BOV + flange

7-MAF relocation

Done.

Water injection is the worst first mod I have never heard EVER.

Step 1: Ditch those silly 18s.
Step 2: Buy decent tires for the stock wheels.
Step 3: Engine mounts, change all fluids. It's due.
Step 4: Boost gauge to watch the needle hit 5psi.
Step 5: Some sort of exhaust, the best your budget and state allows.
Step 6: CAI
Step 7: SMIC if staying below 10psi, FMIC if you want to blow your engine later messing with boost.
Step 8: Unichip

A boost controler in there somewhere if you want to spring for a wideband A/F.

No, not really... the build would be done in florida at TBK it's only $1350 for mod'd pistons and pauter rods mead gasket etc. Then the Unichip is $600 about. The motor doesnt have to come out of the car to do it either.

speaking of mods.(shady). Just ordered new blowoff valve and ATP wga! Time for a little more boost with this turbo I can't wait. I disconnected the wastegate before and the car was mean as hell at 9-10psi but ever second I'd go in and out of fuel cut so I couldnt really run the car. 1st gear however worked and pulled like a bitch. I was at one end of the block and at the other in like 2 seconds and I wasnt out of 1st gear. I wasnt expecting it to pull so fast I was expecting to get some wheelspin or somethin but thanks too Falken Azenis(yes) .

You know what, I'll be able to answer this question better soon. Just ordered the ATP WGA since my new wastegate is set at 5psi dead on, in any gear. Stock wga, I was hitting 5-6psi. Then when I was done modding I was hitting almost 8psi with no boost control.
So since I got this turbo I guess the mechanic set it to stock boost 5psi. With the new wastegate I should be hitting what I was before , like almost 8psi.

The turbo sounds great and runs pretty good, I barely lose to a rx7 boosting double what I am, so it has to be running good, but I'm sure having it at 5psi is not what it was intended for. Needs at least 8psi. I've ran it with the wastegate line off hitting 9-10psi, every second i'd hit fuel cut but it pulled hard. made 5psi feel like nothing.

Your first mod should be to add a boost gauge so you can monitor both vacuum and boost on the car. After that it all depends on your goals and how far you want to go with the car. Intercooling and exhaust are two areas where you can definitley improve what the factory gave you IMO.
Spend your money wisely and enjoy the ride.

I never thought about the boost gauge, I don't see it as a mod but more of a necesity. Exhaust is one of the biggest HP gains on this car whit the double catted mid pipe, and an intercooler would also be nice. If I had the $2k I'd go full exhaust and a unichip. Those two mods will get you a good start, you'll still have some money left over to pay bills and save for the next mods.

so my first upgrade was a 3 inch straight pipe cat back and then a boost controller and im pushing 10psi and it runs like a champ despite what everyone says about not turning up the boost on stock parts. but my next mod is definitely going to be a perrin front mount with an hks ssq bov and then 12 to 15 pounds. then my test pipe.

Good luck getting that Perrin FMIC. I heard there was only two left a month ago.

huh if that's true that sucks. I'll find one though. Maybe I'll do an ion performance.

A freakin blow off valve should be the least of your priorities. You will not gain any performance whatsoever. Your car could actually be slower from a BOV, because it will want to go pig rich everytime the valve releases charge air to the atmosphere, causing a bog between shifts. To get an atmospheric BOV to work correctly on our cars it will require hardpipes, relocating your maf and/or a good ems with a map sensor. Not to mention BOVs sound just silly at stock boost IMHO. The only thing a BOV will do is help protect your turbo from compressor surge, which is not going to be too serious at 5 - 7 psi.

Get exhaust first, then an upgraded intercooler, then an afc or something. You will probably be the most satisfied going that route. Leave the boost stock for now or pay the price(blowup)

if you run 12 to 15 lbs boost, you will blow it up
