View Full Version : Ordering an '08

Well, we did an extended demo today and decided to take the plunge and order an '08 this week.

Planned order will be:
GT front drive
Grey ext, Blk int
Nav Assistance pkg
Sunroof/Bose pkg
Tow pkg
Homelink mirror
Cargo tray
Cargo net

Being told 16 weeks for delivery. Does it really take this long? BTW, dealer (sales mgr) has no knowledge of a 3.7L engine or the blind spot sensor that others on this board have said are on the 2008 model.

Also, the reason for the tow pkg is for a hitch for bike rack, has anyone put an aftermarket hitch on yet instead of the tow pkg.

Is the blind spot sensor part of a package????

As with the CX7, the factory hitch should be available with just the electrical hookup in June. Why not just have your dealer find a CX-9 like you want, as we did?

I have several reasons for wanting the '08. First, I don't have to have the car right now and can wait. Through my employer I can get pricing where the ordered '08 is the same price as finding a '07. Paying this much I'm not willing to compromise on the setup and options that I want. Getting a next model year increases it's used value over the current year. Finally, the supposed engine upgrade and blind spot sensor feature in the '08 model.

I agree getting the next model year does increase value. BTW I have ordered my CX-9 from my local dealer and they told me that it will take 4 to 4 and a half months to come in. My dealer is aware of the blind spot sensor, but not the engine upgrade. My question for you is that... do you know what the price of your car will be? At this point the dealership will honor 2007 pricing of the CX9 unless mazda corporate changes the price for the 2008 model year. My dealer does anticipate and increase but not by much. Did they give you a price quote? Do you have an order Allocation from your dealer?
But I know for sure that the blind spot sensor is on the 2008, I also verified that with MAZDA customer service.

I went to the dealer on Saturday and they said they haven't ordered any 08 models yet. He also did confirm the BLISS option for 08 as well as the new Backup camera system that will be integrated into the homelink rearview mirror. He still didn't know anything about the 3.7L engine upgrade though. I hope they release some hard facts about it soon. The upgraded engine is the only thing holding me back from buying a CX-9 at this point. Also, I am hoping they fix the DVD/Moonroof issue for 08 as well.

Guys,

I have official Mazda documents dated March 2007 stating the production of the 3.7L. My local dealer has already ordered their first batch. One of 3 things is going on at your dealers:

1) They are playing dumb because they have 07 models to sell.

2) They are actually dumb (lol2)

3) For some ridiculous reason the 3.7L is only coming to Canada, but I really can't see that being the case.

I'd love to post the documents, but I'm not sure if there are any legalites involved.

Thanks, you are correct. I forgot they are offereing "2" rearview mirrors now from what the dealer told me. Sometimes I wonder what marketing is thinking on some of their "packaging" of options.

Trust me, I believe you, I don't doubt that. It's just really annoying when I go to the Dealers and they are clueless. One sales guy told me it takes at least 6 months to receive and 08 if I ordered one. Come on now. I know they want to sell the 07s, but sheeesh. I'm not even haggling with them on price either, as I'm ordering with the S plan price. They don't have to "sell" me on the car, I already want it. To me, it's one of the easiest sales for a Dealer in my opinion.

Thanks again for the info

OK, question for those of you familiar with S-Plan purchase. I gave the dealer my specs for the '08 CX-9 order and they said that they could not work up a pricing until they get a VIN on the car from the factory (but they still need a deposit). Is this true? I thought that S-Plan pricing was static from pricing sheets I received regardless of the car being on the lot or ordered.

Any S-Plan assistance appreciated.

You are right but so is the dealer. The S plan is a standard price that they give you, no haggling as it's part of a program. They fully know the S plan pricing for the 07 models, but because the pricing hasn't been released for the 08 models yet, they can't give you an accurate amount. They will only be able to do this, once Mazda releases the pricing info for the 08 model. I went to another dealer and they said they would know within a few weeks. You need the deposit to order the car but until the pricing info comes out, you won't know for sure the exact price, only an estimate based on the 07 S plan price. It's most likley that the price will change somewhat with the addition of the new 3.7L engine, so factor that in.

Other than the pin # you give the dealer for the S plan, there isn't much too it. I've bought 5 Fords with X plan and it's the easiest way to buy a car. No haggling, no fighting, one price, I know it's a good one and you are done.

Thanks for the quick reply and the detailed info. Mazda customer care confirmed just what you said, except they said S-Plan pricing may not be available until Sept. I told that that was unusual since some '08s will on the lot in Aug.

Also, neither the 2 dealerships in Atlanta I'm talking to nor Mazda Customer Care have any clue or information on any changes to the '08 models. They no nothing of an engine change or blind spot sensors.

The dealers did say that they had '08 orders in and could change the specs to what I wanted and shorten the lead time to about 12 weeks. Going that route with the specs above but I decided the nix the tow pkg and just get an aftermarket hitch for the bike rack.

I have specs for everything except the final production ratings on the new engine. I expect to see those shortly and will post them as soon I recieve them. There is an official Mazda Canada management memo announcing the 3.7L engine and it also shows the 3.7L on the spec sheets, however it says N/A where the HP, TQ, and fuel mileage ratings should be.

GT FWD
Grey ext, Blk int
Nav Assistance pkg
Sunroof/Bose pkg
Homelink mirror
Cargo tray

Plan is that the car should be built in about 2-3 weeks, with a delivery after that of about 8 weeks. Until the car is built and I get a VIN, I do not have any '08 specifications on engine or additional features.

I'll update this as I know more. If anyone else has ordered or a build sheet on an '08, please post the specs.

I had installed a under the bumper HiddenHitch as the tow package didn't come with a 2" reciever which I needed for a boat. Simple bolt on and looks good. Hitch and wireing harness ran about $225 not including installation.

My order is in but no firm manufacture date. It was supposed to be about 2-3 weeks from last weeks order since they modified an '08 already on order. If they can rush delivery after that, I should have it early August.

BTW - As of this morning, the dealer still has no clue on the '08 specs. This from the largest volume Mazda dealer in Atlanta.

He's an update on my order.

The dealer tells me vehicle is on the assembly line but they do have a completion or ship date yet. Now they tell me that they do not get a final invoice or MSRP until the vehicle lands in Jacksonville, FL due to the port side accessories that are added. For those in the know, is this true? I'm on an S-Plan so I'll pay invoice but by this, I will not know that until about 2 weeks before delivery. Also, dealer still says that their are no changes to packages or equipment on the '08.

So is my dealer (Jim Ellis Mazda, Marietta) that mis-informed or is their really no information available on the '08 for the US. Not getting the same info that our Canadian friends are getting.

Travelin Man,
Give you some update of what I have done. I ordered 08 GT AWD with, Nav, hitch,GT assist package, moonroof and bose, autodim mirror. 08's do come with 3.7 engine. Blind spot is in GT assist package that will be intro later in the model year. MY car was built JUne 16th and was shipped June 23rd. Was on water June 29th. Should be in Tacoma Port now. They will add receiver and wheel locks and put on truck to SLC. I should have car by week 4 of July. My dealer buddy had 2 9's on this boat and they are both sold. He has others being built that will start arriving the end of August. Yeah it still takes a while to get here. I wanted a different color to start with, but settled on white because it had what I wanted and would be here so much sooner. I hope this helps.

There seems to be a lag in availabilty in the St. Louis area. I have noticed a lot of CX-9's sitting over the past couple of months, not moving very quickly. However, now a few are selling and pickings are getting a little slimmer. Hasn't been a lot of additional stock hitting the parking lots, in fact I would almost say no new CX-9's have been added to the lots since May. Very few '07's with the assist packages, most without.
I hope the selection becomes a little better in the next month, I plan to purchase then. Anyone getting much money off the '08's? I am considering more the '07 model due to the Canadian spec sheet that states most of the colors will have a black interior, which I would like to avoid. Possibly the Canadian options will not be the same as the US. I guess we will see for sure on the 16th of July.

Well here's a brief update on my 08 order. I had placed my order and deposit in late May. So far the dealer is saying that the CX-9 still has not been built so no VIN yet though they do say that they have a confirmation of the order and my options. Has anyone received a VIN for their 08 order and know the delivery date? I'm starting to wonder if the dealer is delaying 08 deliveries because they still have 25 07's sitting on the lot. Feedback from other 08 ordering experiences welcome.

I'm currently in the market for a GT AWD in Galaxy Grey with Sand interior. The only options I really want from the dealer are moonroof/Bose (actually, I could do without the moonroof, but this is the cheapest way to get the Bose...), towing, and maybe roof rack. I can add other things later if they aren't dealer installed (homelink mirror...).

There are only 2 in the state that match that color combo and they don't match the options well, but my broker (not working with a dealer at this point) found an '08 in that color combo with those exact options that's already on the boat from Japan. If I were to choose that option, the broker said it would be here Aug 13-17.

While, I'd love to go with the '08 for the slightly bigger engine and maybe better reliability with a 2nd year production vehicle, I can't justify the additional cost beyond a similar '07 with the 0% 36 month financing and the fact that dealers are (hopefully) starting to give better deals on the '07s. Right now, the best deal I have in hand is $1200 over invoice (Edmunds invoice figures, which are the same as the s-plan costs posted on this forum) for the color combo I like with just the moonroof/Bose, no towing or roof rails.

Should I hold out for a better deal than that? Or given the limited availability of that color combo should I pull the trigger? Anyone know of Galaxy Grey/Sand GT AWDs sitting on other dealer lots?

Thanks!

The price didn't looked like it jumped that much when you look at the base price of the 07 and the base price of the 08 (on the Mazda website) until you read the fine print at the bottom of the 08 price sheet. The 07 base price includes the destination fee, but the 08 base price said is does not.......could it possibly be a misprint?? Over $700 seems a bit much considering the vehicle really hasn't even been out a full year.

I'm actually in the same boat - there are 3 in the configuration I want on the lot at a dealer near me and if they offer a good enough discount in the next month, I'll bite and buy.

I guess some people who own them now would have to post and tell us how their 9's are doing. That should ease some uneasiness about buying a first-year vehicle. I have a feeling things are a bit different these days than they were years ago.

I am thinking about ordering a '08 and I am being told the same thing about the Blindspot sensor. My salesman told me the regional rep said the blindspot monitoring system will be available on CX-9's built in October and after. So he is telling me that by the time the cars would be to him it will probably be the first of the year if you want this option.

I ordered this at the end of May. As for the Blind spot Sensor, I had specifically ordered this and all I can report is what the dealer is telling me is on the car. I will confirm when I get a copy of the sticker in the next week or two. The MSRP price includes the sensor so we will see when I get the paperwork.

1 month tops. And then another week at most to get it from Seattle (or LA) to whereever you're at.

Update on my 08 order.

Finally got the VIN last week and now waiting on a ship date this week so expected delivery may be mid Sept. I did confirm that even though the dealer said the car had the Blind spot sensor it does not. As several here have pointed out correctly, not available until late Fall. As someone in another thread pointed out, it's amazing how clueless a business can be about the product they are selling.

Update

The car is at port in Jacksonville and should be at the dealer in Atlanta either Tuesday or Wednesday next week. So three months and a week from order date. Now we'll see how the paperwork goes next week.

Will be dealing with the sales manager now as it seems the sales guy I was working with is "MIA", his words.

Update

OK so the CX-9 did not come in last week as planned or it may be at the dealer but they are not sure. Dealer received over 50 cars last week and is still in the process of checking them all in. In anticipation of our CX-9 coming in, I sold my wifes car so the dealer was nice enough to provide a loaner until my CX-9 shows up. Patience is a virtue. (yes)(yes)(yes)

If you're not in the habit of using your blinker while changing lanes or do abrupt lane changes (a.k.a. Chicago/NYC/LA driving...yes, you too Miami) these Blind Spot systems are pretty useless.

Agreed, the BS system was a nice to have if it was there. I chalk up the earlier mis-information that my CX-9 was going to have it, to a salesman who was just clueless about his product. That seems to be the case with most car sales people. You would think that with all that free time standing outside waiting to pounce on a customer, that they might just pick up a car brochure and read it. My rant for the day !!!

Good news, the car arrived at the dealership today. Bad news, I'm traveling and will not be able to pick it up until Friday. (argh)

Oh well, after waiting nearly 4 months, what's another few days.

Well finally took delivery of the 2008 CX-9 GT that I had ordered on May 23rd.

So far made a short trip and have put about a 100 miles on the car. Very happy with the purchase. The one negative I immediately noticed was the rear cargo mat. Now I knew that it was only going to cover a portion of the cargo area but I was surprised by how cheap it was.

Other First impressions
- Nav was fairly easy to use
- Boothtooth was very simple to set up (Blackberry Curve) and while entering some addresses was time consuming via the voice prompts, it was very straight forward.
- Memory seats - these are great and just discovered that I can set the smart card to the specific seat setting. This is a huge deal for us since my wife is 5'3" and I'm 6'3".
- Audio sounded great but I have yet to try a CD or hook up an MP3 player to the Aux outlet.
- Homelink mirror set was easy to set up, had one of these before and really like the convenience of the garage openers on the mirror.

That's about it for now. So far no buyers remorse though that may happen when I have to fill this beast up at the pump.

I used the mat from my 2007 Mazda CX-7 that I traded in and it is a real good fit, maybe a 1" on each side and 4" in the rear.
