Which one would you buy? Im in between the two.
07 350Z- kicks 306whp/268tq, has better millage than the GTO and the previous Z versions (with more whp!), and handles better on the track yet its a 2 seater. 5.2 0-60mph, 1/4 mile 13.6/7, yet some had done 13.3...record braking, 13.1 or something.
06 GTO- 4oowhp/400tq...nuff said. Comfortable interior, 4 seater, v8 rumble. Good highway millage. 5.1 0-60mph, 1/4 mile 13.3, yet some had done 13.1...record braking, 12.9/8 or something.
What are your opinions? Pros and Cons...feel free to bash them or compliment them, no hard feelings.

also, to my knowledge neither of those horsepower numbers are at the wheels, at least for sure on the GTO since my friend owns one. Also, since I have driven both, IMHO I would take the Z unless you want more passengers than just one. BTW, the GTO back seat is very very comfortable for a two door but a pain to get into and out.
Also, with the mods in my sig with no tune and 5.5psi I pulled within 3 lengths in the quarter mile(street) against his 06 GTO with just magnaflow catback. I'm hoping with an AFC and 10psi I will be bumper to bumper!(butthump)

the g37 isnt as atractive as everyone thought it would me thanks to the misguiding cool concept cars...it looks like one luxurious plain coupe that has some power under it...like those benz that are fast enough to hit a 13 yet they have the plain numb feeling of sportyness. I prefer the G35 sedan/coupe, those are tight...

dont buy a pontiac, even if it is a gto. sorry but if a company has to put a supercharged 3.8L V6 in a gtp to make it ALMOST as fast as a msp 2.0T. there is something wrong with your engines. can you imagine a supercharged 3.8 bmw engine, or anything else!!!! yet pontiac makes them on a standard day and they suck! 350Z is an incredible looking car. that would be a good upgrade.

There are a lot of pics of the G37 floating around now. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123663888&highlight=g37
The production model of the g37 was a disappointment to me also, especially compared to the concept. I'll take a G35 coupe over the G37 coupe any day.
But to stay on topic.... Thats a pretty tough decision for me also. I would probably go with the GTO just because of the rear seating (even though I would rarely use it) and 6.0 V8. But I love both of them. I wouldn't argue if I was given either.

From looking things over, the Z looks like a better track car and the gto looks for comfortable. I doubt that their real world speed (daily driving) will hold a noticible difference so just get the one you like better.

Thanks guys you have all been very helpful...keep the opinions coming!!
As they said above me, the 07 Z is totally a different beast than the other versions. I cant test drive a 6spd GTO because its 900miles away! lol they will only bring it if they see im about to buy one...it would suck to bring it and for me to go...enneehh. Although I doubt I'll have that reaction with 400 ponies. Still wanna drive boths to see whats up. The lady said she wont go any lower than 31K on the new 06 GTO.
I found a few on 26K for less than 10K miles. The 06 Z goes for 25K around 1K-7K miles, yet thats not the model I want, I prefer the 07, although there arent any used 07s available, they do sell for 28K, but if I ever get a good deal on an 06 i wouldnt put it down. S2Ks look good too but those sell around the 30K margin...34K new. To perform like a Z, or close to it, I much rather have a Z or the GTO.
What do you guys think?

I"m a huge fan of both cars.
The both look good, sound great and go like stink!
If I were choosing though, I'd go with the Goat. While the 350Z is the better handler and more rewarding drive, having that barrel chested 6.0L V8 at my beck and call which takes to mods like a dope fiend to smack is just too much to resist. Add to that a nice interior (nicer than the 350Z imho) and a semi-usable back seat and it starts to get one sided.
Besides, once you invest in a few key handling mods, the goat will be able to dance just fine.
Oh yeah, if you can get your hands on a monaro bumper, swap it out. Looks MUCH nicer!

Buy the Z and buy it new - you'll get a better interest rate on new than you will on used. The Z is a very nice car to own. I still love looking at it after two years. I had considered the GTO when I was looking. I wanted something small, fun, impractical - and the Z fit the bill.
Everyone loves the car, friends - family - coworkers - and of course girls. My friend Jen actually told me that she knew she was going to sleep with me the first time I took her for a ride in my Z. Yeah, I know - kind of an odd thing to hear - but, I can't fault the results!
Oh, and fucking in the Z is fun, but definitely requires the petite spinner type. But I wouldn't call that a bad thing.

The GTO is a better deal if you can find a leftover 06 on a dealer lot. There is afew where I live for 8K under list. Plus the GTO is better built then the 350z. GTOs are basically rare on the road unlike the Zs are everywhere. Also the GTO has a betterwarranty then the Z. 5yr/100K vs 3yr/36k. There is alot more performance parts for the GTO because of its GM motor.
This is my cousin's 06 GTO that make 575hp.

of the 2 choices i vote gto. never been a fan of the z and the gto is a solid car all around, plus can't go wrong with an LS motor. if i were looking for an impractical rwd car in that price range i'd also consider a c5 z06

The GTO has a modicum of practicality. You can squeeze 4 in there in a pinch and once again, nicer interior than the vette even though the vette handles better and goes faster.

Yeah, both cars are nice.
The Z is nice, I was talking to a friend that runs 13.1 with his 05 (modded)and says he "LOVES IT" and has "NO COMPLAINTS" ....so I got that asure, plus I assume the 07 is WAY better. I get the same feedback from the GTO forums and well, the lack of 06 GTOs on sale clearly shows that none wants to get rid of them.
Tough battle.

My buddy usually never revs past 2500-3000 rpms when town driving, it doesn't need to since the torque down low is amazing! You dont have to rev it much to feel power. Actually we are planning on taking my buddies GTO from Wisconsin to Myrtle Beach driving straight through because it is so comfortable. They are very practical for a muscle car, but if it was my choice I would probably take the Z, but that's coming from a guy who only needs a driver seat in my car.

Yah I only need one passenger seat, im usually driving by myself with the usual friend/gf as co-pilot...really rare do i get to use the back seast..usually when someone needs to be taken to their house because they aint got a ride from the party...thats about it. I'm probably the wrong person to listen to here, but I absolutely hate the GTO, and I'd get the z.
The z just seemed more fun to drive for me. The GTO still suffered from GM floaty steering (though worlds better than any GM car I've ever driven.) The styling of the GTO is just too bland for me. I don't say "wow, there's a GTO" when driving around. I do, however, turn my head and say "very nice, a Z!" when I see one of those pass.
GTO has more power, but I just like the Z a lot better.

yeah, i guess the GTO has the same feel as the STi. Only car enthusiasts like it (men)...those that appreciate muscle cars except a few (the domestics vs import thing..). The is overall, car enthusiasts like it, and non-car enth. like it as well cuz its nice. I asked a friend (chick) what she thought about the GTO and the first thing she said is "OK, before i give me opinion; is this the car of a loved one or is it in anyway related to you?"...lol, that cant be good. Then I showed her the Z and she said "Oh yeah, that car is nice!". hehe. But sometimes you also have to get what/the car you like and dont care what others think; you'll live a better life that way.

For sure the Z is the better driving car and the styling is more eye catching. But unless I frequented a track I'd take the GTO everytime.
Great long distance cruiser, incognito styling make it look mature and restrained. And its actually somewhat rare.
Plus nothing like the creamy thrust of an 6.0L LS2 V8 as you sink back into soft leather and bomb down the highway to plaster a grin on your face.

Another Vote for the Goat!
I've been in the exact same boat as you, looking to get rid of my msp and my top two choices were the GTO and 350z. I sat in the Z and didnt like it, horrible blind spots and quite odd storage for the interior. I'm looking for something as a daily driver. The GTO gets you a boatload of power and is awesome to smash the gas in, you can't beat the sound of the gurgling V8. I think the 350 takes the edge on exterior styling and is a bit more nimble. But the GTO responds incredibly well to mods (headers/exhaust can put you at like 375rwhp, add a cam and that number goes to way over 400whp) and the interior is nicer on the Goat. Those seats are great and plus is has the 2 in the back if you ever needed it. For me, as a daily driver, I think the goat wins hands down, more space, more comfort, great gas mileage still with all that power, and it can carry 4 if needed. I enjoyed driving the gto a lot more, it seems more on par as a luxury sports coupe than just an all out sports coupe.

I need to drive one, but they are SO HARD to find. Plus, its kind of a pain in the ass when salesmen get all over you and wont let you go...they aint that stupid, i know I would let anyone go that easy if they wanted a test drive.
lets see how it goes; currently busy working, but whenever I get off, im off.
i never liked the Z, and I'll never buy a pontiac, or any GM for that matter. So personally, I'd find something else.
If I didn't care about mpg, resale, reliability etc, I'd get the goat anyways. They are a nice looking car, and you can't deny that engine.

Well, my goat is no more. Yesterday at about 9:30 P.M. I was taking one of my friends home and was getting on 270 south towards 55 from Tesson Ferry Rd. I was in the far right hand lane and there was a truck in front of me going pretty slow maybe 25-30 mph and I proceeded to pass him at between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle. Out of nowhere the backend kicks out so I try to correct and counter steer a little which ended up being to much and my car caught the side/lip of the road and flipped my car. The car came to a stop upside down, airbags did not go off, me and my buddy crawled out the passanger window, and waited for police to arrive.
The car is obviously totaled, it really sucks because I just had it professionaly detailed not more than 5 hours before this, man and I thought the swirl marks were my biggest problem. Now I have to wait and see if my insurance drops me. I could understand if I was hotroding around and it happened, but I was not doing anything wrong. God, I'm so depressed.
I have yet to get another one. I will own another one as soon as I can dump the Lexus. I miss everything about that car, everyday. I would buy another one in second, without a doubt.

The Goat is one bad machine however, I have yet to see anyone mention resale value. I'm a huge LS fan (I own a Z06 Vette) and I was going to purchase a GTO until I researched the resale value and it's below horrible, it stinks. That reason alone pushed me to the vette. If you plan to keep the car long-term, then go for it, but if you only plan on driving it a few years you may want to think twice. The 350Z is a nice car, but it all depends on what your looking for. As someone already mentioned it has huge blind spots and for me, it wasn't bad, but it also didn't give me the "WOW Factor" I was looking for. They do have allot of untapped performance but again it's all in what your looking for and what your willing to spend to reach your performance desire.

I say GOT! One, and the main reason, you WILL need that back seat onday. Two, the MPG isn't that much better. Three, the times from 0-60 and 1/4 mile in real life are alot bigger in favor of the GTO. And last but not least. Yea the 350 handles better, but the only way you'll ever beable to tell is if you take it to a track and race it. On the streets it's pretty close and even then the GTO makes up for it with speed!
That's just my .02!
Now, if I had the means to pay that kind of payment I wouldn't buy any of them and instead buy some POS and wait alittle more until the Camero or Challenger comes out!(nailbyt)

Yeah GTO resale value will be low because, well, its a niche car. If I had one though, i'd never part ways with it. I'd drive it till it was paid off and then till the wheels fell off. It would be the wife and I's weekend cruiser. :)

Agreed; if you hold onto the GTO, in 25 years it might be worth $100,000!
Both cars are solid, but I have much more affinity to the GTO. If I wasn't married, I would probably be driving one right now. There are way too many z's on the road and it always bothered me to drive a "me too" car (probably why I'll never own a honda; no offense to anyone).

I do have pics but, they are not on a digital camera, I would love to post them though. I guess I need a scanner?
Yes! Get a scanner post haste! Just call it my morbid curiousity. I can't imagine a mangled GTO.

dont buy a pontiac, even if it is a gto. sorry but if a company has to put a supercharged 3.8L V6 in a gtp to make it ALMOST as fast as a msp 2.0T. there is something wrong with your engines. can you imagine a supercharged 3.8 bmw engine, or anything else!!!! yet pontiac makes them on a standard day and they suck! 350Z is an incredible looking car. that would be a good upgrade.
there is NOTHING wrong with the LS series motors GM produces. YOU cannot compare that at ALL to the POS V6 they use in there front wheel drive car. The LS series motors are about as bullet proof as you can find. Look at HP numbers people can produce in 98 and newer TA's and Cameros and you have your answer that nothing is wrong with that motor.
And i dont know how long that have been independent rear's, but that's a plus over previous year's. If seating and comfort is a priority i'd go with the GTO, but for pure driving experience and handling id go with the Z

Thanks, All I got to do was tint, swap the resonators for an H-Pipe, and install 14211 Magnaflow Mufflers.

Talking about resale value...Kelley Blue Book says my 2006 MazdaSpeed6 GT with 12,908 miles on it with sunroof, no satellite rad., no nav., bose sound system, leather seats, F&R airbags, power seat, 6 cd, cruise & traction control, etc, is worth:
06 MazdaSpeed6 GT (original cost 31K, but I paid 28K) Condition Value:
Excellent
$22,675
Good
$21,425
Fair
$19,195
I checked everything good, cuz it is, except the tyres, i put new, and they are wore out, but this is assuming I change them before the resale.
I was also curious what would be the resale value for a 06 GTO with the same features and miles so I picked it, checked the premium sounds box, unchecked the Dual airbag box and checked the F&R box, and although I dont know if most of them come with sunroof or even have sunroof available, I checked the sunroof box. I also added the same miles (12,908) and this is the price it gave me.
06 6spd GTO (original cost 33K) Condition Value:
Excellent
$23,450
Good
$22,140
Fair
$19,890

Now I grabbed an 06 350Z 6spd coupe Touring model, which Im guessing its around the same average price as the Speed6 & the GTO (Saw the nissan website and the 07 touring coupe touring model starts at 32.7K). I clicked the same features as the rest:
06 350Z 6spd Touring Coupe (original price dont know, but the 07 goes for 32,7K) Condition Value:
Excellent
$24,850
Good
$23,455
Fair
$21,085

SilverSpeed, what are the best mods to go for as far exhaust? Can someone educate me about those H, X,W, RMSAJDHFA pipes? Whats the best most badass exhaust out there? Borla? Corsa?

There is a black GTO owned by a small business owner close to where I live. I drive past it almost everyday. I don't know what mods he has as far as exhaust go but the thing sounds absolutely BEASTLY!
I mean the deepest most menacing rumble I've ever heard. Its not loud and racous but very deep and baritone.
If I ever get a GTO, I'll have to ask him what exhaust he got and get the same thing.
The car just seems to lurk in traffic. It sorta blends in but you just know it could unleash a can of whoop @$$ at any given moment. I love it!

It depends on how much you want to spend. The route I was going to take was H-pipe, Magnaflow mufflers, and Kooks LT headers. From there the only other things that I wanted to do were semi-aggressive cam, Fast 90 intake manifold, and a Tune.
Best Bang for the buck is almost always going to be Headers + Tune. You can gain as much as 30-40 horsepower with just these two. To be honest I've yet to hear an exhaust I didn't like. Spintech is good, SLP is nice, Borla and Corsa are both good. Check this thread out, it's from LS2GTO.com, it's a compilation of exhausts systems http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115630

Nice, love all of them. I liked the corsa a lot and the spintech, then the borla and flowmaster.
I much will the 06 GTO beat the 07 STI/350Z for on a 20mph/40mph roll on?

I don't know, the STI I would think would be out of it's element since it's from a roll but, if he's brake boost'n then that changes things too. I never had the opportunity to race one. The Z on the other hand should be no problem I would imagine 2 car lengths would be accurate.
My best race was with an '03-'04 Cobra from a stop, took him by a fender, very good race, lots of fun. Wish we could have done a couple more runs.
