I always get a coupon from my local Mazda Dealer on a Fuel Injector Cleaning Special for $94.95, does anyone know what is invloved in the cleaning of the injectors? Do they just spray something in the injectors? I have never had my fuel injectors cleaned is this really necessary or is this just another way the dealer steals your money?

that's way to much money unless they're flow testing them or something!

Agreed. I paid about $80 (shipped) to have a set of 4 injectors cleaned and flow tested (before and after). That price included new filters, o-rings, and pintle caps for each injector.

I have always been hesitant about getting my dealer to do this service. I don't even know if they flow test, like what "Captain KRM P5" said I bet they just pour injector cleaner into the tank.

I doubt it is a simple Fuel System Additive that you add to the gas tank. Its more likely an actual hook up to a machine that throughly cleans your injectors. You know, not all dealerships are out to screw you.

Why don't you just ask them what is done?

edit: Heres just a quick google on the Snap-On MotorVac we use.

Its a multi-step procedure and not just a Fuel Additive.

the dealership i used to work for charged about that much for the bottle treatment, so it may vary from dealer to dealer.

I used to work for a nissan dealership. We used a product from BG. You actually disconnected the fuel line from tank. Then connected a hose with a preassure can full of there inj. cleaner. This preassure can was connected to air preassure. This was done while the veh. is running. Once again like everyone has commented " all dealers are not the same"

A related question, is there some easy way to tell if cleaning is actually needed? Something that doesn't involve disassembling the fuel rail and capturing and measuring the output of each injector?

[QUOTE=FSCatalyst]You know, not all dealerships are out to screw you.

I guess I have just had too many bad experiences with dealers.
