i was out to lunch and some idiot decided to stop short, and i had to get on my breaks pretty hard. i could feel the pulsing of the abs but i heard a nasty grinding sound coming from my breaks. they stop just fine under normal breaking tho. i checked the pads/rotors best i could w/ the wheels on and all seems to look ok. any ideas as to what might cause that?

Thats normal ABS noise....Its just the brake fluid pressure being released/bypassed by the ABS system

I got that too this past winter.
This is my first car with ABS, so the first time it kicked in, it scared the shit out of me! Sounded like a pry-bar was being applied to the rotors...
totally normal, it seems :)

i dont have to worry about snow where i live so i like cars with no abs. to me, it feels like i can "feel" more of what the brakes are doing. but back on topic, that noise is just the abs motor doing its thing.

ABS is for suckaz ;)
I co-drove (autocross) an MSP last year with ABS. My 1st run, ABS kicked in, and I seriously thought I had torn some shit up BAD. It's totally normal.

Yeah same here. My pro5 actually doesnt have ABS, but I had it on some previous vehicles. I have my doubts that in dry conditions ABS is worth having at all. ABS increases your stopping distance in emergency situations which is a big negative. Ive had problems with ABS engaging at bad times when driving over metal grates or railroad tracks. For some reason it would just go nuts. It would be nice to have the side airbags in the pro5 though.

I love/hate ABS. I love it in the winter, hate it in the summer.
And yes it sounds like shit is broken when it kicks in but i guess thats normal.
