Ok. So I went thorugh a lot of posts today to figure out what oil to use if you are burning oil. Many people say that you should not use syntetic oil because has detergents which will clean seals and allow more oil to pass through and get burned. Others say that you should use syntetic because it will widen the seals and cause less burning.
So in the end, what should I do. Stick to reg oil, change to semi or full syntetic.
By the way, I am burning a quart every 2000km. give or take.

How many miles are on the car? Sounds like you may be a candidate for a high-mileage oil that will swell the valve seals. Also, thicker viscosities will slow consumption if it's a ring issue.

I have 160000km. I already use high mileage oil sometimes, but the burning does not increase or decrease if I use just regular oil. I am using 10w30 in our summers, but have to use 5w30 in our winters.

You might want to do some nosing around here (http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/ubbthreads.php). There's lots of info regarding your particular problem. Another suggestion would be to run a cycle of Seafoam or Auto-RX detergent though the engine on your next oil change. Carbon buildup on rings, or stuck rings can cause excessive consumption and these products can clean / free them up. It's really hard to tell what your problem really is since you do have a lot of miles. It could just as easily be normal wear and you're in need of a rebuild. In any case, check out that site.

I've used Bardhol in the past when i used to burn alot of oil in my 92 Prelude. That mixed with some Valvoline Max Life, really helped...

which bardhol. I have used some in the max and made no real difference. I also used CD MAX 2 and same thing. It slows down the burning a little, but nothing to brag about.

We run 5w30 dino in my GF's smoking Milly. As it burns it, I add 5w40 diesel oil. By the time oil change comes around it's got three quarts or more of 5w40 in it. I want to do a couple auto-rx cycles, but I've been too cheap to flex the cash so far.

run thicker stuff, more viscosity. try a high mileage 10-30

or do the old fashion engine flush, then add syrup trick. (actually add a thing called RISLONE to your crank case might help)

I have already tried all this stuff and it did not help. Would using Syntethic oil be better than the regular oil.

i don't think so...you'd just be spending (burning) more money...

I agree w/ Joe...er...Mark :p
The problem is not the oil itself, your problem is that somewhere you've got oil getting into the combustion chamber. THAT needs to be fixed, not the type of oil you run. Have you had a compression test or leakdown test done to see where / what's leaking?

I will be doing another compression test this year, but when it started burning, I did one and everything was ok. I am going to see if something changed.

What if I use straight 50 weight?

still same old question for me :)

The answer's the same:
The type of oil is NOT the problem. You're not fixing anything by using 50 weight, and I don't think it'll make that big of a difference.
