there is a winding noise in my 5th gear, when i put it in neutral it goes away. any ideas?

I have the same problem, but it is because i have a small transmission leak so everytime it goes low it starts to make a winding noise on 5th gear, but when i refill the fluid it goes away.
Check your tranny fluid level

j/k ..i hav'nt come across this ..YET....guess you could hceck the tranny fluid for starters...

no, you actually don't have to drop it to change the fluid.
I'll look in my shop manual, and tell you the CORRECT way to change it. Check back around 12:00AM EST

Should be a drain plug at the bottom of the tranny. Refilling it's a bit harder though. Theres a 20mm Bolt near the front bumper side of the tranny thats used to fill it. Either get a fluid pump or gravity feed it with a rubber hose. Thats how i figured it out at least

^ yeah i did it, i forgot that our pros have fill and drain plugs
some manual cars dont
