Well it begins today!
I had to use a car dolly since i dont have my trailer yet and to get it on i had to remove my front bumper and intercooler piping. We screwed up and it came off the dolly to fast and ruptured my nitrous line and dented the bottom row on my intercooler but i am just happy to have my car back. I was planning on upgrading my intercooler anyway.

damn, That is why when my motor started to sound like shit i parked it and never started it again! I am planning on building my stock block up as a spare!
On with progress:
NONE......I worked from 0630 until midnight on thursday so that kinda limits what i can do with my car! Today or tomorrow the block should be out and the head will go to the machine shop!
The 23rd is very ambitious and the only thing really holding me up is the motor and stuff at paint! Besides that it is just installing new parts!

Any tips on getting the axles out would be appreciated

One thing I have always found when working on my car and I get stuck on a project I will just walk away take a brake and when I come back I just meraculously figure it out. You might want to ask around the MSP section on how to get the egine totally removed for I know many of them have removed there engine. Have you started to prep the new engine? Or is it already to go? Well good luck and good work, and hang in there.

June 23rd...........you gonna have your car at DTP in Vancouver? I'll be down there with 604Club, but not with my car, cuz it will be in the shop. I'll definately look out for ya when I'm there, I definately wanna check the car out.

i've seen Twilightprotege remove his axles a couple of times..
I THINK
you disconnect the axles from the control arms, and yank the things out (they are not bolted in..held in by friction/barings)
but shall check.

I was already running 22 psi before so i am pretty sure i dont need a bigger turbo, The head is going to be ported and polished, New intake manifold with the vics removed, Larger injectors, Clutch,Flywheel, LSD, AWR oil pan, Holpfully methanol injection and a few other odds and ends

Well updates, My rims do not fit over the new BBK. :( I was running a +43 offset 18" rims and i need a +45. SO this aids in my decision to get the 19" Volk TE37's in black. For this show i will run spacers but it is just another setback :bs:
Now I am just awaiting shit from paint and cleaning.
It will be fun at the show nomatter what! Me and 3 of my friends are heading up to party in Vancouver so whatever happens, Happens.

Rob's running the same ones im running. 13+" rotors and a HUGE caliper. here's a pic for reference. I'm running +42 offset to clear my calipers, and i have about 1mm to spare. Note the size of the caliper to the keyboard

My rims were made to order. Thats the cool thing about ordering work rims. They asked me the dimensions of the calipers and how far they stuck out from the rotor as well as the offset i was going to run and custom built the rims from there. Only drawback was the 3 month wait time LOL

The front brakes do most of the braking, that is why alot of people only do a front big brake kit if they can't afford a full. The stock rotors and calipers are good enough for the back.

better than custom grinds, they are custom built billet cams.... so they have been built to exceed the maximums you can get out of regular garden variety regrinds.
On a turbo, these bad boys should work like a race cam....they are pretty huge for turbo application ;)

Well, I didn't make my show on Sat. My shit at paint went behind schedule, The brakes would not fit with 5mm spacers and my engine is not installed! Nothing went right so i gave up and pushed my car back in the corner. I leave for NY tomorrow so once i get back i should have all my parts and have no distractions (really long story short i was with a chick from work and well it ended!) Anyway my car will now become my priority and some volks will be here when i get back! So we shall see how 19" volk TE 37's fit. I had a good push but lost motivation due to way too many parties (I just got back from a 8 month deployment). More updates to come when i return from NY in 2 weeks!!

Make sure that you check the shims clearance for the new cams. It is a lot more important that people think.
The Shims are available at Mazda and you can get the SST to adjust them just like the workshop manual states.
If this is not done, you could float a valve at 6000 RPM.
P.S. I have an engine block like that too, We should put them in a grave together and put
FS RIP
on the toomb.

Ya man Autometer uses a Bosch sensor, and I found it's accurate as hell. If you have a standalone, you can get the peak recall feature working (you need a digital full throttle switch, not analog like ours stock) and it tells you how lean you went last time at WOT. I used an output on my Haltech to trigger it at 95% throttle.

I use the MPI now so......... I want the data to tune on the road along with my pryometer!! Standalone will come if i decide to race more than show!!
Maxx Mazda
07-05-2007, 11:32 PM
Well the blue wire from the AUtometer goes to your WB logging input, but the brown wire is the WOT switch. Def. a great gauge though. Where is your EGT probe mounted? Mine is about 1" after the turbine, I use it more for turbo temp. than tuning, since my WB is prime, but the gauge can be used for tuning too (within reason, but it's more used for timing than mixture.)

I dont know about the rolling part but atleast the motor installed. I have to trailer my car to my buddies house who is a badass welder. My downpipe needs to be shortened and my tube from the turbo to the intercooler needs to be shortened. But once the motor is installed i will be happy!! Start it up atleast!!

Like i said the rims are temporary until i buy the volk TE37's this winter. I just wanted to see how this offset and rims size fits!

Dude your car was already bad ass. I don't think I have or know a word to describe what it is gonna be when it is done. WOW!!!! It just makes me wanna put my MSP up for sale and buy a Kia and leave it all a alone. My wallet has taken off and left me in fear that I will abuse it as you have done yours. GL with the rest of the build, you are gonna have a field day tuning that thing If I didn't live so far away (North Carolina) I would be all about helping.
The christmas in July is fun though. I had christmas in June when my motor blew!!!

wow man, when i was looking at buying my MSP i googled MSP pictures and i saw ur car, i love it, i've had my car for 5 months now and it's been standing for a month and a half due to a blown motor, i am greeving without my car, and you've been unable to drive it for much longer, i don't know how you handle it, cause i can't, mine will only go in for surgery around end of September so i have a long wait still
joka1
08-05-2007, 11:24 PM
I could have had my car running probally a week after i blew the motor but then i would be boosting 23 psi on a stock block again! I decided it is better to wait and do the complete build all at once!
Yes it defiently sucks not being able to drive my car but in the end it should be worth it!

Yes i was running 22-23 PSI for apx 8 months. I didn't do any damage to the motor except for stretch a wristpin and screw up my piston rings!
In my opinion is is all in the tuning what you can run safe. I plan to run 15 psi daily and run 25-28 psi on the strip!
It should be fun ;)
