* JET-HOT Coatings *
*- GB CLOSED -*
JET-HOTŪ develops, produces and applies a variety of coatings. Properties of the various coatings include insulation, corrosion resistance, abrasion and impact resistance as well as lubricity. All are applied at one of our regional factories through a meticulous, multi-step process including: thermal degreasing, abrasive-blast stripping with virgin aluminum oxide, double-coating (inside and out on headers), high temperature curing, custom packaging for return shipping, and quality-assurance controls during every phase of the procedure.
Its official, i just got word from Chris Morris @ Jet-Hot that the group purchase for MazdaForums is a GO! I have no time frame on when this will take place, but will be working on Time & Member Personal Info with Chris @ Jet-Hot in the next couple days. about the valve cover: when u powder coat, dont you just do the outside, the only reason i'm worried with jet hot is the inside of the valve cover, if any of the coating peels off and gets mixed up with oil, that cant be good.???

When they got my Wagner header all blasted/cleaned ready to coat, they found that 2 of the 4 pipes going into the collar that mounts to the cat were cracked. The welds are cracked prob 2/3 of the way around. I'm having it shipped back so I can fix and then sending it back in to get coated.

I gor charged $149.50. Since I paid $115.50 for the coating I guess they charged me $30 for shipping (shrug) I think I paid almost $20 to ship it to them, but they gave me a bigger box with lots of bubble wrap and stuff...

Wow...the hits keep coming, can't wait till my stuff arrives so I can find out what's wrong with it. I didn't get hit with any kind of outrageous shipping though. If I remember right the coating cost came to $139, the grand total was $146, so $7 for shipping.
Edit: I just figured it up again, it was actually $133 for the coating, so shipping was $13. $7 didn't sound right, especially since I got it shipped out there for $8.XX.

U also have to remember that theres 4 different locations that coat for Jet hot, so u may need to check yours shipped from. I really appaulogize for alot of the inconvience that this has caused everyone. It seems this GB has had the worst problems and complaints....
My items came in, and they seem fine. Theres a small dent on the intake manifold, but it seems something was clamped there.....other than that i have no complaints, the coating seems up to par:

got mine back yesterday!
Let me start by saying it looks pretty good.
A few things though: (see pics)
The coating isn't completely even all the way around the pipes - it kinda looks like they could have spent a little more time getting in between the pipes and around the back of the pipes too. It's not that it's not coated, but just not as pretty shiney as the "good" parts. It still looks good though, just not as good as it could look I think...
Also, the worst part is, now that the pipes are all clean and everything, I noticed a crack in the weld of the egr valve bung, and another failing weld at the end of the header that connects to the midpipe. I bought my headers used though, so I'm guessing I just failed to catch these before I sent them in. I attached a few pics. (I was holding a pink highlighter behing the header so you can see the holes in the weld more easily)
I'm gonna get these fixed at a local welding place. The only thing is they said they'd have to take off some of the ceramic coating in the places that they need to weld. There goes my pretty good ceramic coating finish. :(
Do you guys think I should send it back to jet hot and get it coated again after I get the welds finished? I think I could probably persuade them to refinish the parts that aren't coated as well as the others, and pay them something to recoat the welds that were fixed...? I left a message for Chris...I'll see what he says...

Chris gave me a call about my questions. He said the uneven coating is due to the part not being in the polishing machine as long as it should have been. The part where it looks like it's not coated enough is actually spots where it wasn't polished enough.
As for the cracked welds, they can't do spot fixes because of the process, but he said he would redo the whole job after I got everything fixed for $85, and he would cover shipping to and from. Not a bad deal. Just have to decide if I want to spend ANOTHER $85 on these darned headers lol

I say you should sell that header to me and start all over. It'll be easier that way. But if you don't want to do that, I wouldn't worry about re-coating it. The part that has the weld crack is under the car anyway. Noone's gonna see it.

I say you should sell that header to me and start all over. It'll be easier that way. But if you don't want to do that, I wouldn't worry about re-coating it. The part that has the weld crack is under the car anyway. Noone's gonna see it.
It's already at the shop getting fixed :)
If there are a few parts that aren't coated, I guess it won't matter that much since they won't really be seen. My only concern would be about those particular areas getting corroded or something since they're not coated. But the header is stainless steel, so I guess I have nothing to worry about. I'm just being a worrywart.
Plus if they ever crack again then it won't be a big deal to go in and get them rewelded again...

Does anyone have a pic of stock MS (callaway) manifold after coating?

Finally got them today, overall I'm happy but my pieces did get manhandled too. You can see the smashed part on the top of the manifold and the bent vacuum nipple. Also I was wondering if you could do me a favor and give me a comparison check with your CS DP for me Citizen. I have these little dents/creases on the j-pipe near the flange. I can't remember if they were there before or not but it does kinda look like they clamped the hell out of it or something because all three dents are equidistant from eachother.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. The other stuff is minor and can be fixed at least.

Got my weld cracks repaired today and started smoothing them out. With all these bad stories about their service and quality, I'm wondering if I should even send it back so they can damage it, (oops) I mean COAT it.

I got my stuff back last night. I was worried because of all the problems other people were having but mine seemed to turn out fine.

I had my dog look everything over because I trust his judgement and he never lies to me. He gave the intake mani his lick of approval.

The pipes he found a couple dents and scratches on but I explained to him those were there before sending them out so we are good to go. I spent $45 bucks shipping everything to Jet Hot and they shipped it all back for $34 so all said and done I spent just under $255. Now I gotta order some thermal spacers and gaskets and put it all back together again.

I think you should send your dog to Jet Hot so he can give all the items the lick of approval before they leave the warehouse :p

That is not a bad idea, I know he would not have licked a couple of the pieces that people have gotten back so far. It was really cute though, he watching me unpack the mani and the first couple pipes and put them on the couch then as I went back to unpack the rest he went over and started sniffing them. I broke out my camera phone a quickly as I could and snapped the pic and then the split second after the pic was taken he gave the mani the lick of approval. I was hoping he did it again and I could get a picture of it but he only licked it once. Probably not the tastiest thing he has ever licked...but then again I'm pretty sure it wasn't the nastiest either.

that's what my header pipes look like. Call Chris about it. It just needs to get polished a little more - they can just put it in the polishing machine a little longer and send it back to you.

But at what cost? Did you have to pay for shipping again?
I decided to send mine back to them yesterday after I had the welds repaired. It came back in great condition the first time, so I'm hoping it'll come back the same the second time.

I'm gonna pay $85 to send it back and get the whole thing recoated and repolished and everything. I had to get some welds fixed, so they have to redo the whole job. But they said they'd do it for $85 and they'd ship me a box and pay for shipping and everything.

That is a interesting question which I would also like to know the answer to. Anybody? Maybe a call to Jet Hot would help us find out.

I think that's what the Extreme Sterling finish is for, no?
LX_StreetGlow
06-15-2007, 04:32 PM
extreme sterling is for higher temps not the gloss... i think regular sterling is up 1300 and extreme up to 1700.... and as i kno, or as i've read extreme is not as glossy as regular sterling???? dunno

Hmmm, how would you even prep a coated header for painting? Sand it a bit maybe??? (dunno)
Then again if the paint didn't hold up to the temp or didn't stick then you'd have an odd looking header. :p

My extreme sterling mani is just as shiney as my Sterling parts. From what i understood from Chris, the Extreme Sterling holds its shine at higher temps compared to the basic sterling.....which i believe is 1700 degrees.

My header finally came back on the 21st of June. I posted a pic in the MP3 section but guess I forgot to put one here. Mine came back great. No complaints as far as quality is concerned.

I just got mine back again, after having a few of the joints rewelded at the shop and then having it recoated and repolished at Jethot. Looks great...probably won't get around to installing it until end of August or September though since I'll be traveling for work until then...
