View Full Version : CX-7 Generation - How Old Are You?

I have a theory: I'm betting that the average age of a CX-7 owner is higher than Mazda was targeting with this marvelous and unique vehicle.

We are long-time Mazda owners (5) and chose the CX-7 as what will probably be our last "new" car. The plan is to ZOOM-ZOOM into our "golden years". (wrc)

BTW... I realize that Sparks' first name is spelled "Jordin", but I just love the river.

You may be very right, but judging from many of comments, we may be bringing up the average age. It seems that there are many 20 -30's in these forums.

According to Iwao Koizumi, the chief designer of the CX-7, the emphasis of the vehicle was front seat space, then luggage space followed by second row space. Mazda expects the target market for these cars to be married couples, 30 to 40 years old, with no kids, who want something a little bigger than a car, but do not want a full size SUV or mini-van.

40 here, and two kids.

39 married with a 5 year old kid. Outside the demographic....but....

Maybe I'd say the demographic is skewed on this web-site, because maybe there are more 25-34 year olds who browse web forums then other age groups. Younger age group is too busy having fun in school and bars. Older age group is too busy with their families or non-technical to post on here...

I'd say 25-34 is the sweet spot for people who are technical and tend to post more often on web forums.

This is the case for me and the SO. She has a kitchen and bath business so she needs the room to put a cabinet in back every once and a while. For me, I just like sporty vehicles. I do wish it had towing capability though. I will probably need to pick up a cheap pick-up to tow my other car. Other than that, it was a win-win, if only I could drive it once in a while...(protest)

26 and living but not married to my SO who is 25 and has a Mazda 6. I too have only owned Mazda's outside of my first car which was a Ford Thunderbird. I've had an RX7, MX6, Mazdaspeed Protege and now the CX7 and my SO bought the 6 with some serious recomendations from myself! Only had the thing a couple of days and she's driven it more than I have but i'm looking forward to the weekend so I can really get behind the wheel and enjoy this thing!

I'm 29, and I just got a cx-7 gt, without the bose system and tech package, because I aleady have a navigation system from my previous car, which was a mitsubish eclipse, I plan to put it in once I can find a dah kit. I absolutely fell in love with my cx-7 when I test drove it,because it felt like a car, but has much more room than my eclipse, and I think it is a little faster.

That's exactly the other car we were thinking of. I prefer the utility of the CX-7 though for the kiddos and it would take a LOT to get me to stray from my brand, even given the troubles we had with the RX-8.

Congrats on the pearl. The yin to your yang. :)

Mazda's target demographic for the CX-7 is late 20's to 40. This is exactly the folks we sell them to everyday. It seems to be just the right fit for many people in this age bracket. Though, I am closer to fifty than forty; I wouldn't trade mine for anything.

erhayes

It's not how old you are but, how old is your thinking. I'm 69 and feel like 40 most days. My CX 7 pushes it back a few more thinking years.

i just turned 22 in june and that is when i got the truck. my wife has been wanting one since last year and i drove it while i was home and it's a quick little vehicle. i was keeping up with a 350z on the way back to the airport. i'm just waiting until they start making parts for it. i know it's the same engine as the ms3 and ms6 but i'm sure some stuff needs to be modified to fit. right now i will order stuff from corksport.com for suspension upgrades.

28 going on 29 this Xmas.

this is exactly what persuaded me to buy this. Especially camping and hiking. I was going to upgrade my MX6 for a fully loaded one, but fell in love with a fully loaded 7. The Black Cherry Mica on the tan leather interior was TOO sexy on the 7 to look away. And that plastic cover thing in the back is perfect to putting all the dirty hiking or camping equipment on.

Best decision ever!

I traded my 2006 Mazda6 S Hatch for a 2008 CX-7 AWD Sport last week and while i miss my 6 i LOVE my CX-7. My 6 gave me a lot of problems but i am a true mazda fan and gave it another try. Love it!! The cx-7 is a 6 with AWD. Makes me imagine that i bought a Speed6. Wanted white but the one that was at the dealer was sold so i bought black on black again (I'm a sucker for washing the car). I just fit in the popular demographic and have NO REGRETS about buing the cx-7. The manual mode is no stick like my 6 was but its a nice alternative...

I'm 28 and living happily with my beautiful girlfriend. I traded my 2006 Dodge Charger for my CX-7 after I learned the hard way that Chrysler/Dodge learned nothing from Daimler about how to properly build cars.

My 07 liquid platinum (yeah I know it's silver) CX-7 is my...let's see...fifth Mazda that I've personally owned, and...wow...the eleventh Mazda between my mother, father and I. We've done so much business with Mazda and have always been so happy with their cars, dealerships and company that I've gladly appeared in two Mazda commercials in the DC metro demographic without compensation. I'm happy to say my CX-7 drives excellent, returns consistent mileage in excess of 20mpg, handles all my photographic equipment, paintball gear and friends with ease, and turns heads.

I'm 39, but hit the big 4-0 in a couple of weeks. I bought the (BCM) CX-7 because I find most 'normal' vehicles boring to drive. Having said that, I had a Ford Explorer previously, but it was originally purchased for my Ex wife and I wound up with it. I got used to seeing well from being up a little higher and being able to carry things back from Lowe's, so I wanted a sports car that afforded good visibility along with cargo capacity. Oh, if someone only made an SUV/CUV with the soul of a sports car! ;)

Before the Explorer, I had a '94 Mustang GT with the 302ci motor and I've been riding motorcycles since I was 7 years old. I dabbled in road racing my CBR600F2 so I guess I've always preferred a vehicle that's capable of injecting a little adrenaline into my life!

Oh yeah, I'm married again and have two step-kids. They usually ride with their mom in her Murano but they fit just fine in the CX as well!

23 here just put my down payment down last night for a 08 brilliant black cx-7. i pick it up on fri. my plan is to only put 91 octane in the tank and maybe once in a while throw some 89 in it w/ 1/2 tank left. is this a good idea? they told me at the dealership that I can use 87 in it if I want, but don't see that being very true.

you can use 87. the engine doesn't perform anywhere near as good, and the shifts are much choppier. the dealer put 87 in mine when we picked it up, since then we have only put in 93, and it performs MUCH better than the initial tank. i highly recommend the highest octane available.

Great ride coming out of a 2004 Pathfinder, also drive a 2004 BMW 325CI and wife drives a 2009 Honda Pilot.

No complaints in the first month of ownership aside from 2 Boses/Sirius issues. Have not been able to get the Best of XM, have been getting conflicting reports on the radio not being compatible which of course makes no sense at all and also on sat it will no longer hold its presets. Will even lose the station I am listening to after taking a call on the Bluetooth.

problem was corrected today at the dealer. They upgraded the software on the Bose radio then unplugged power to it for 5 minutes we had Sirius send a reactivation signal, put the fuse back in and the radio upgraded...

My first Zoom Zoom, I'm 47 my wife 46, she drives the vehicle daily, daughters are grown up but 2 years old grand daughter is replacing them. After a mini van you still want to be able to put stuff in there for the trip to the cottage but you want to enjoy the drive(evil)
After seeing the CX 7 in the showroom, that was it. They look nice(boobs2)

My wife and I bought our CX-7 at the end of February. She's 45 and I'm 47 ... grown kids, so normally it's just her commuting back and forth to work or us running errands on the weekends. Did an 1800 mile road trip at the end of May ... from our home in Colorado, we drove to Sedona, AZ, by way of Santa Fe.

Awesome ride and decent mileage for the trip .. and, it's so much more comfortable than our departed '08 Saturn VUE.

First Mazda - picked up the Sparkling Black Mica 2011 CX-7 AWD GS with the luxury package. We purchased essentially on my 40th b-day and my wife is 37 - so far we love the car/suv. Mostly commuting with me and wifey, but I enjoy a bit of punch with the turbo in the CX-7. Only a few weeks in so a bit of the honeymoon phase so far.
