CPE Intake + Cat Back Exhaust = 13.9 1/4 Mile
CPE Intake + Cat Back Exhaust + XEDE Engine Management = 13.1 1/4 Mile
260+ all wheel horsepower, 300+ pound feet of torque
CPE Intake + Cat Back Exhaust + XEDE + Top Mount Intercooler Upgrade = 12.9 second quarter mile at 106 miles per hour
Slapped on the intercooler, did some more tuning, took it to the track and thus we have a 12 second Mazdaspeed6 with perfectly safe 12:1 air fuel ratios, solid boost to redline, the stock downpipe, the stock catalytic converter, stock turbocharger, stock manifolds, stock engine.
To compare, the ATP test car required a complete turbo upgrade, turboback exhaust, new turbo manifold, no cats, and boost control to hit 12.8 which has not been verified with a time slip to my knowledge.
We have a few tricks and new parts on our list as we continue to push the limits of Mazda's AWD beast. Stay tuned for some exciting new parts this month and the next.

Sweet numbers Ken.
Glad to see you guys keeping up the development on the Speed 6, and that it's emissions complient with the exception of the intake for California residents. Although that's easily fixed by using the Injen, Mazdaspeed, or AEM intake. All should produce similar numbers.

as for the FMIC, without tuning our experience with FMIC projects has not been very good. with something like an XEDE or other such engine management, an FMIC might yield better gains.

Great numbers! I am guessing this is jcemgt's (or however it is spelled) car, since all the mods sound very famililar.
However, on the topic of the ATP MazdaSpeed6's upgrades, they supposively say on their website (on the dyno graph they posted) that the mods to their car is the GT3071R, 3" catless DP, 3" inlet pipe, FMIC, and stock cat-back exhaust. So no new turbo manifold, turboback, or boost control (they just ran off of the 15.5psi wastegate that comes with the turbo). I don't mean to demean your results or anything, hitting 12's is spectacular with those mods, but I just wanted to make sure the facts were right. BTW, heres the link to where I got my info:

Not to knock ATP but you can't always trust manufacturers...... it's pretty well known amongst a lot of people that a MFG(manufacturer) can take a car that's already been run HOT, and then have it run and use that as the base dyno........ then cool the car down and have it run which will show MORE power... and have that as the "after" dyno......
the only trust worthy way in my opinion is for someone to have the mods, remove them, run the car stock cold, cool it down then run it cold with the mods, that will probably be the most accurate way for you to truly know the powergains...

I was not talking about the dyno, I already know that it is pretty high from dynoing my car myself. I was just stating that the mods to the ATP car are less than what ProtegeGarage was stating they were. The reason I posted the dyno graph was because on the top of the graph they state what mods are done to the car. You should take your own advice and READ the post next time...
edit - BTW, there is only an "after" dyno on that sheet, no "before".

I read the post, I just didn't read the link... difference (blah)
Why would I need to look at a manufacturer's dyno? they all say the same crap "20 whp gain" with their one mod on it...... but you're right, I should have read the link..... all I did was glanced at the HP/Torque......
so what I'd like to know is, since I'm still a little lost..... so the mods on the ATP car are fewer than the mods on the ProtegeGarage car.......is that what you're getting at, right?
and that the ATP is putting out more power/running faster times? (uhm)

Huh, I like this response a lot more than some of the ones on 6club, but I REALLY don't want to get into that here...
I'm not stating that the mods are fewer on the ATP car, just that there are fewer mods on the car than Captain KRM said in his first post. All I was doing was correcting, not trying to say one is better than the other. There may be fewer actual "mods" on the ATP car, but they are different mods than the ProtegeGarage MS6; you can't compare apples to oranges.
But yes, your right that manufacturers usually use inflated dyno numbers to prove that their mods are better than everybody else's. Some are worse than others, but we don't really know unless we watch the dyno ourselves.

I'm asking what you're stating cause I didn't understand the content of your posts.....so you should talk.......I'll trust ProtegeGarage before I trust a corporate company like ATP regarding "modding" these cars....
So I don't know anything about the ATP having fewer mods on it then Capt KRM said it did or whatnot, I was just trying to get you to explain your post if you were saying the ATP car had fewer mods than the car from PG.com or if you were correcting someone for whatever mods were on the car (dunno) .....
and I certainly don't remember the first 2/3 pages on this thread and definitely not going back to re-read anything......... so as it turns out you were correcting what someone stated about teh ATP car, and now I understood what the heck you were talking about. And for that my brain hurts (freak)
But I got what you were getting at, a subject that was previously mentioned, since I was still on the subject within the current page, it lost me. (hand)

lets not get into a flamewar here. looks like some of my info was not correct, sorry on that. my understanding was that ATP was running the whole turbo kit they offer.
that said, we had the stock turbo VS thier larger turbo, we had catalytic converters VS thier catless downpipe, a top mount intercooler VS thier front mount intercooler. going by retail price, we spent around $2000 in parts to achieve what would cost $2600 the way ATP did it, thats not including the price of the unreleased FMIC, so figure closer to $3200. i think thats pretty impressive regardless of how you slice it. granted, we did have the XEDE in the car and tuned and they were running stock ECU.
this is by no means a slant against ATP. i buy quite a bit from them and honestly thier quality is top drawer. they are however one of the few cars we can compare to in this playing field right now so its only natural to compare.
we put jason's car on the lift today and found the differential hanging by the axle shafts and drive shaft. the bolts holding it to the chassis are sheared off and we are going to drop it and put in some hardened steel bolts now. he had been planning a trip to south carolina, and lord know what would have happened had the diff broken free.

Haha, I didn't mean for it to become a flame war either. I was *trying* not to demean your results in the slightest, I think what ProtegeGarage has accomplished with the MS6 is spectacular! I was just stating the difference in the mods from what ATP posted to what you posted Captain, thats it. Good luck with getting the rear diff. back to working order, hopefully ya'll can fab up something that would be a bit more durable, I'm sure it would be a quick sell to the MS6 community.

just because the engine parts are forged stock does not automatically make them bullet proof. the rods are as thin as the ones you'll find in the protege regardless of material used and the compression ratio is higher than it needs to be. we've sent both the stock rods and pistons out for examination and there is room for improvement. if i felt otherwise, i would not be sinking my own money or time into having improved internals developed. its not as easy as saying "hey its a forged rod". there are many different designs and brands of internals out there. if it were a matter of simply being forged, no one would buy the more expensive rod available.

this car is still very new. no one has pushed the limits of stock internals yet (4dhd overboosted alot which will break any motor forged or not). Ive found with many cars both forged and non-forged that the tune makes or breaks how long the motor will last. Ill be putting on an ATP 3076 with TMIC very soon and hopefully get the cobb tuner if not the cpe ems with very safe a/f ratios. I think the car is good for low 12's on stock internals. I see the money spent on the turbo upgrade is well worth it unless you want your car smoking at every traffic light and you want the stock turbo maxed to its full efficiency.

I've been trying to find out from a few people, without any successful results yet......... but WHY is it some people choose the 3071 over the 3076 or the 3076 over the 3071?
What was your reason for choosing the 3076?
A friend of mine works at a shop called Japtrix (probably the only AWD dyno in South Florida as I've been unable to find another) and mentioned putting a GT35 in my car, just to see what it could do. So I'm curious what your reason was for getting the 3076 instead of the 3071?
oh and what are you planning on doing with the old k04? I know some people usually sell them or keep them to put back on for warranty, but when the time comes and I chance the turbo, I won't be worried about warranty, so I was figuring, as a nice little experiment and because she wants a little more "go fast" power......... I'm thinking of putting the k04 on my GF's V6 Mazda6 heh...

its all about what your plans are with the car. 3071 maxes at around 450hp with supporting mods. 450hp is less then 400awhp so if you may have plans to surpass 400aw, you may want to think about getting the 3076.
Right now the gt35r would be a waste. Spool time is bad on the 35r and you would never come close to maxing out the 35r on the ms6 without all kinds of fuel, axle/diff, MAF upgrades.
I have made the mistake in the past of buying a supercharger that suited my needs at the time. But when the mod bug hits, you want more power and now you have to upgrade to the bigger model. I see it as a waste of money. Its better to buy something with more potential.
The 3071 is good because it spools very fast. Although nobody really races under 4000rpm so whats the point? Its all about your taste and what you want. Dont let anybody else tell you otherwise.
the old k04 gets put away for when the car needs warranty.(burnout)

Awesome, thanks a lot for explaining that, so I guess if I wanted to be able to claim 500WHP I would go for the gt3076 huh? nice
And I totally understand about the k04, lol but for me when It comes time to buy the bigger turbo (probably shortly after new year's 2008) I won't need to worry about warranty servicing, plus I'm almost on 9k miles and have had no problems other than having the TSB performed for the clutch...... I pamper my baby.... sometimes my girl says I love my car more than her so I just wink and say DAMN RIGHT, the only thing that'll never do me wrong! and then she throws a sponge at me.
Oh and I think i might have to do rear differential/axel work anyways if I plan to shoot for 500WHP, so the GT35r probably wouldn't be completely out of the picture, although I think I should look around for a turbo that's like PERFECTLY in between the sizes of the 3076 and the gt35r... Cause I definitely understand about too big of a turbo = horrible lag, so you want it just right... too small spools up quick but doesn't always give people the power they're looking for, etc etc

Cause I definitely understand about too big of a turbo = horrible lag, so you want it just right... too small spools up quick but doesn't always give people the power they're looking for, etc etc
the next size up from 3076 is the 35r. 3076 is good the 500whp+, the 35r is good the 600whp+

ARGH, there's no other turbo out there inbetween the sizes (even if it doesn't fit the MS6 one off and I can fab it?)
35r = too much turbo lag, and I'm not exactly drag racing every day.

he ran the same 1/4 time as before with pump gas and less boost but the car also hasn't been tuned yet so no dyno numbers as of yet.

ken how crazy does the 3071r feel? i'm looking into it for the ms3, but i've also emailed about 5 different companies to see if they can hook me up with a hybrid t3 setup that uses the stock exhaust outlet and stock oil/coolant lines.

Curious, which cat-back are you using? The magnaflow? CPE?

Nice times at the track, and nice build by the way. I wish the tuning on these cars were more advanced as appose to a piggyback.

So when you say a full standalone you mean something to REPLACE the factory ECU and take complete control of the car? (yes)

yes it will eliminate the factory computer either completely or leave it in control of mundane things like the radio, AC and fans.
as for the DS integration....we'll see

now THAT is great......... I look forward to seeing your final product, that's so much better than a piggyback...... something to completely take control of the torque management and all (or at least I hope your unit will be able to do that, etc).........and if you get the DS Integration obviously you could charge like, $100 more, and I'd be the first customer (lol2) (naughty) (alright)

not looking for plug and play....... something that entirely replaces the factory ECU and allows me more control over the car like teh throttle plates and torque management system is exactly what I would want to harness the true potential of the car....... that and the DS (lol)
