View Full Version : Hadnt realized how HARD it is to drive between 55-70!!

Damn it... had not realized 6th gear sucks at those speeds... 6th wants to be at 80 where the turbo has kicked in....yes I could leave it in 5th but thats a waste of gas.... Im going to have to learn patience again.. at least for the next 18 months...am I the only one that finds it hard to stay between 55-70?
I got a stupid ticket two days ago and now have to really watch my speed.... nothing sucks more than getting a ticket on the desolate stretch of road you drive every day, where you know where the cop parks every day and does radar checks,,, and yet frigin absent minded me was thinking about something else coming down the hill and gets nailed ... arggggg...talk about DOH!
At least he was kind enough to write me up for 5 over the speed limit instead of 20! Weird being told: you didnt slow down today... are you ok? hard to answer that one truthfully....

mocoso: i totally feel you on this one. whenever i put this thing into 6th, i am doing 80-90 easy... this being my first car with 6th, i am always temped to upshift on the freeway too.. staying within the speed limit is a pain in this car!

6th is what got me a ticket...everytime I have it in sixth, the car just feels like going faster and faster and I hate the fact that I got caught doin it

I have a hard time staying off the gas in general, but then most of my driving involves traffic...I find my fun by weaving through it ;)

Yeah I like weaving in between traffic as well, until someone catches up with you at a stop light or in a parking lot and tells you how irresponsible you are. Then I'm just like...(nana)

Can't say I've had that happen....yet.
Most of my weaving is engineered to put and keep distance between me and them, and is generally confined to the highway... (drive)

Yeah, I haven't had too many problems. Except for a clown in a new Escalade (who was pretty good at keeping up) then I told him that in order to catch me he did the same thing as me and then he threatened to get out of his SU-bitch and "kick my punk ass". Then when I started laughing I had to run away through a red light because he did get out of his vechicle.

It's so true. Even when you pay attention 98% of the time, it's that 2% when you're thinking about something else, the cop conveniently happens to be there to bust you. >_<

I would have laughed at the ass-clown in the Escalade. EAC = Escalade Ass Clown! :p

When we took my old car to the guy that bought it, my mom drove my MS3 while I drove my old Civic.
My mom does NOT speed, and she was doing 60+ in a 45... and about wrecked my brand new car about 3 times. She has not driven it since.

Man, I had this same thing happen to me in my RX-8. I was driving on the MassPike getting into the EZ-Pass lane. This guy in a truck who was mad at me for smoking him coming out of the last toll booth comes screaming up behind me at the next booth. He gets caught in the wrong lane and tries to squeeze in front of me, but I didn't let him in. He then follows me 7 miles through Boston to the convention center. We get off the highway to a red light. He pulls up next to me at the light and rolls down his window. He then proceeds to start screaming at me for being wreckless etc etc etc. I was like, "its not my fault I smoked you coming out of the first booth. Oh yeah, and its not my fault you got caught in the wrong lane and couldn't get in". Well that sure pissed him off, cause then he says "you have a real driving problem". Me, with my adrenaline now running since this guy looks like he wants to get out of the car, I say "what the F are you gonna do about it?". He then proceeds to get out of the car. As soon as he starts to walk in front of his car, the light turns green and I (drive2), leaving him with his door open, him in front of his truck in teh middle of the street in traffic.

I have a hard enough time not speeding in my Protege..and thats in 5th at like 10000000rpm at 80mph. I'd kill for a sixth gear in the Protege.

i'm kinda glad that its somewhat "ok" to go 80 around where i live. as long as you dont drive like a jerk and a drunk, generally ok going 80.

You are lucky he didn't have a gun, otherwise you would of been the one
"smoked" Maybe you and him should look into mass transit instead of driving a
motor vehicle.

Oh ya, it's so tough to keep it below 70. I think what I still have going for me is the fact that I still often forget I have a 6th gear.

Does the 3" turbo back exhaust really help? Any rubbing or CEL's with the new exhaust?
knowledge007
04-22-2007, 11:11 AM
No, and really help.... Umm yeah this car is the real wild child. I have got that question alot. Remember, the turbo back replaces the whole exhaust system with 3". No matter what, this will help any car. This car of mine chirps nasty when I put it under load though 1st through 4th. I hit 60 way before 5 seconds and before I know it I doing 90. Its amazing how much potential this car has.

QFT. The only way I can do it. Good news is that you get around 32 mpg between 65-70 in 6th, according to the trip comp.

I know in my regular 3 once I'm in 5th gear doing 65 - 85 the car begs for more! It runs smooth as butter at 85mph. I can't imagine how it would feel with a 6th gear :)

This is for the comments about Road rage driving.
Next time someon pisses you off, just let it go........... Ok so you screamed and had a panic attack. Tough it isn't going to help your situation any more. WHAT DID YOU ACOMPLISH??? Do you feel better for screaming??? Did it make you more of a man???? Next time someone gets mad at you for a screw that you did, Smile really big, roll down the window, and say your SORRY. its the fastest and most effective way to stop the insanity. (0% of the time when i cut someone one off (intenionally or not) when they get mad and zip up next to me, i just smile and say sorry, they clam down and leave me alone.
IF you really think the general population of America drives bad, you need to visit one of these fine countries.
Afghanistan, UAE, Thailand, Philippines, Korea, Colombia. ANd these are only the countries i have driven in, I'm sure theres alot more........
After spending about 5 years driving overseas, I was SOOOOOO happy to be driving in the states again. Road rage is stupid, I USED TO SUFFER FROM IT. not any more i appreciate our roads and our friendly idiots drivers. Their worst day is still 10,000 times better than the best day of any Korean driver.
Think about it.....
