Just a heads up to anyone looking to do this install or doing the install and in trouble or done the install or what ever the case may be. I just finished installing GhostMercury's intake mani on his car... Tear down went w/o hitch and the install went fairly well but when it came time to start the car there were some crazy noises made and the car could barely idle. Long story short the support bracket was causing the top of the intake mani to be pulled off the gasket on the head and caused a HUGE air leak... unbolted the 2 support bracket bolts and presto, the car ran like a champ :)... 3 hour project turned into a 6 hour oriel

word to the wise, make sure the support bracket is either adjusted to fit or left undone.

more importantly did they notice the whp increase. and did you do a MM at the same time.

... that is up to GhostMercury to answer and the MM was not done (cash man :))

Glad you guys found the prob... i did mine, and knew right away the support bracket was not going to hold the new mani so i never cared to bolt it on like you guys did..so mine went smoothly.

my bf installed one on his car,

advice after seeing it: the support bracket is there for a reason. although the 626 manifold is not as heavy, I would still utilize the support bracket.

however, it sounds like you guys did it in "incorrect" order. i would never advise someone to install the manifold and first install the bracket- always always tighten the manifold to the block first. get the best seal and torque to specification... THEN install the support bracket.

He did it in that order and had zero problems at all.

Did you guys try to install the support bracket after re-doing everything? I would strongly advise doing so.

Come to think of it, you did have the bracket on the correct way, not flipped at all?

the bracket wasn't even touched (moved). The bracket no longer reaches the holes in the manifold to get the bolts in the bracket and the mani... therefor it is imposible to get the bracket to fit the manifold without adjustment. With that being said the car was on the ground and i wasn't on a lift and didn't have jack stands so i wasn't about to crawl under the car due to those reasons.

Lol, stupid bracket...

I also had to fight with the damn manifold support bracket to make it work - had to do some bending in the ol vise. Do you guys just forget about that bracket or what?

fuck that bracket, or get the braket that comes with it from the ol 626

That bracket is in fact important. If you read through the FSP build thread in the racing section xelderx took that bracket off and the intake manifold broke where the runners attached to the flange. Granted thats mostly a race car but its a good idea to support that weight somehow other wise you can end up creating problems in the long run

You wouldn't happen to know if GhostMercury had the same cold start bogging problem as these guys did when they switched their manifolds...do you Mutmatt?

Should still fit... ?

Are people getting different manifolds now or something perhaps?

like stated in the previous post... it did not. As for the cold start bogging issue that is just something that happens when the engine is cold and the air is not restricted like with the VTCS and VICS systems that it is tuned for. When i had the mani on my car it did bog as well, i just took it slow from the start and wait for the warm up as you should with every time you drive your car cold. I'm not sure if GhostMercury is having the bogging issue

hwo did you even get that bracket to go on at all? My support bracket was not even close to lining up to the manifold, anyways, I left mine undone. It seems to be fine since this manifold is so much smaller. i'd remind you s6m1||88 , that the old manifold was two parts and that the only thing holding the bottom part besides the top of the manifold, was those 2 brackets, and since there it is only one big part i doubt you need to do some crazy modding to get that bottom support to work.

i don't understand.
did you hook up the braket before bolting down the manifold? if so..., of course it would have a leak!

you should do the manifold first, then the braket or no braket at all...

Mutmatt

manifold was bolted down and the bracket was done almost simultaniously... loose bolts on each and then tightened

that's why!
fuck the braket....literally

The bracket works fine if you put it on last and adjust it right. You have to get at the bolts on the bottom of the bracket too...
I did have issues with the intake gasket that came with the Cometic gasket set though. Oem is best in this case.

i went oem....but like my brackets is leterally about two inches away and half an inch to the left of the holes where they are supposed to line up to. I knew after inital mount that it would not work.

Anyone know the part number on the 626 manifold bracket?

I don't understand why it's not fitting for you guys. What year 626 manifold are you all using?

I bought the one from Ken. I haven't tried my bracket yet, but I will tomorrow since the motor is back together now yay!!! :D :)

why did we move this? :) what ever... i will see if i can get ghostmercury to post up how his car feels now.

Hell yeah kaosman, how did you finally end up getting that broken oil sending line adapter (T) out of the block?

With the help of a friend (mechanic), and lots of drilling, dremelling, and chiseling at it. Took almost 2 hours.... O_o

Mine fit fine as well (shrug)

I do have a question though. I don't think there are enough nipples on there for the vacuum lines. One goes to the fuel rail, one goes to the brake booster line area, and the other goes to the cruise control IIRC. Did you guys just tee them in?

Use a vacuum distribution block.

Right on, I think mine will have one spare port... perfect.

Well, I don't have cruise control, but yeah you have to do a little rearrangement of vac lines. There will be less things that need vac because of the absence of the butterfly valve actuators, the solenoids do not need vac because they will not be doing anything. However, you will still have to tee off of a line or 2 to make everything happy.

And another question...

I'm hooking up the fuel line that goes to the passenger side and the damn vacuum nipple in the middle top of the manifold is right in the f'n way.

Well, on the MSP Fuel Rail (not sure if they are the same or not) it was really close but it worked. I'll post you a pic later when I get home from work.

everything should work no problem.
when i did the install on my friends msp....we had no problems at all...
we even used a perri fuel rail wihtout problems
