View Full Version : Interesting story of what happened to me

So yesterday, I was with some friends in my MS3 and we were on the highway approaching the exit needed to get off. At this time, I had my foot on the pedal and was going downhill and i approached 105MPH. I then looked at the speedo and was like "Oh shit!" So I slowed down and the wonderful thing happens.
I get pulled over.
Apparently, there was a cop sitting there when I blew by.
Now because I'm originally from NJ and this was in NY and that the violation was serious enough, the officer couldn't give me a ticket on the spot. SO, I had to follow him (nobody in the car knew stick or one knows little) to the local town court and the judge slammed me with a $655 fine and I don't know of the points on the license, but I said that I didn't have the money, so I had to be held in the local jail. I had my friends try to bail me out and when they came back with nothing, I eventually called up my parents and they bailed me out with my mom's emergency credit card.
So, I have to appear in court on the 18th to try to reduce the fine and whatnot.
I know it was a stupid thing I just did and it was very reckless and wrong of me. At least, I know for sure that I won't be doing this again.

Ah... reality. My state would have jail time (1 yr in jail and 3 yrs suspended liscence) for a stunt like that. Glad your still alive and I hope it goes better in court. You owe your mom big time.

Sorry about the fine, but it could have been much worse. Triple digit speeds in Pennsylvania automatically warrant reckless driving which means you get arrested, your license revoked, and your car impounded.

i got a 20 over in NJ in my home town and i got 4 points and a 200 dollar ticket. which bumped me up to 6 points so i had to pay 100 to take the driver course and then i had to pay 150 a year on the same date for 3 years for an motor vehicle surcharge.lol
i never want another ticker again ( knock on wood)

It's really not worth it to speed-- sure it's fun, but the consequences (both legal and safety issues) are just not worth it.

we all make mistakes...
I was pulled over when I was 17 for doing 110 (actual clocked speed: 97mph). I was in maryland (delaware resident though)... it was an empty 4 lane highway (2 each way) and straight.
ended up with 6 cop cars on the side of the road, had a gun pointed @ the car, yelled @ for a while and had to wait for about an hour and 45 minutes.
ended up with a $520 fine, and 5 points. I was just lucky I didnt get arrested. The ticket transfered to delaware, ended up with a 3 month suspension another $100 fine, had to pay to take def. driving (like $40-50) and had to pay the suspension fee ($50) to get my license back. Suspensions dont look good on your insurance trust me, I paid a rediculous premium for years after (still partially do). So not only did I pay the fines upfront, but it cost me about 5k/yr for a while (the increase in my insurance ontop of what I was paying already...)
Just make sure you learn from it.

gunpoint? That's ridiculous.
I remember being pulled over when I was 17. I was doing over 100 in a 55. The cop came to me and asked my why I was driving like an asshole. I looked at him and said " Sir I am an asshole" he lost it and let me go. I knew it was sink or swim so what did I have to lose.

gunpoint? That's ridiculous.
they didnt point it @ me. But I had an officer on either side of the car with guns drawn (angled down) as they came up to the car, he put it away as soon as he made eye contact with me as he was nearing the window.
apparently, and lucky for me:rolleyes: , there was a report of a robbery in a black car... so ofcourse - guy speeding @ 110 in the middle of a bored town... It MUST have been me...
funniest part was AFTER he handed me the rediculous ticket, he tried to have a conversation with me like nothing happened. "so why you guys all dressed up tonight, did you goto a wedding?" (I had a tux girl had dress/gown on... came from a dance)..

I got pulled over when I was 17 or 18 doing 80mph in a 40 zone. The cop started talking to me about my work and my plans for the prom. He let me off with a verbal warning.
Second time I got pulled over was when I was 18, doing 75 in a 35. Again, the cop let me go with a verbal warning.
After that, I decided that my luck would surely run out the next time, so I quit speeding from then on. Clearly I was an idiot when I was that age.

Yeah, obviously, i'm done speeding now. My speeding career has just gone too far now so i'm done.
I won't tolerate anybody who speeds. Good thing I didn't face the whole reality after getting caught. I just don't think I can do it anymore. It's just been very stupid and reckless of me. Last saturday, I was speeding in NJ up to 120 and seeing those cars whizz by so fast has scared me. Obviously not enough to stop me from speeding.
I hope things will get better on Wednesday. The Judge and the arresting officer has been kind enough to give a recommendation to the Judge I am going up against. we will see then.

hopefully they will give you a plea bargain worth taking.
if this is your first ticket then the best advice I can give you is go in there, admit you were wrong, and show sincere remorse.. The judge might go easy on you being a first offender.

I will be doing everything I can in court. All I can do right now is pray.

I personally have been pulled over more times than I like to admit, but somehow keep getting out of it. 55 in 35, 70 in 50, 85 in 45, and 35 in 25, all of these were let go. The only ticket i got was for 47 in a 35. I have counted my blessings that I have not gotten a ticket or even a written warning for those traffic stops. Now I try my best to just stay with the flow of traffic because I cannot afford a speeding ticket and the subsequent raise in insurance.
I wish you luck in court, hopefully things will work out for you.

Praying wont do a damned thing other than give you a bit of hope. You need to get really proactive. Get your ducks in a row. Make sure you have a good lawyer, and the cash set aside to pay for him or her, the court fees, possible retraining ect..
The other thing they may offer you is accelerated rehabilitation. Basically, what that entails is you being on probation for a good 6 months to a year. After that they look the other way on your record and no ones the wiser. This only occurs for your first offense. You obviously had a slip of judgement mixed with not paying attention. If you really did have a clean record the judge may decide to be lenient and slap the AR on you instead of the fine and let you off with the probation. Mess up again during that probation and theres a good chance your going to jail so keep your nose clean or stock up on soap on a rope.
My last car was a PoS and didn't have any cruise control. I know how hard it is esp on long trips to not pay attention and look down and see yourself going over 100. That really sucks man sorry you got a ticket.

The Judge yesterday advised me just to talk with the DA and then plead guilty and whatnot. Hopefully, the DA will do something about it and the Judge next wednesday will be nice enough. I know I will be satisfied with probation. Better than anything else.

No contest is better than guilty. Get a lawyer. I'd rather pay 2k out of pocket than have that on my record. Your going to pay out your ass for insurance if that sticks.

Yeah, I found an on-campus legal aid service that can provide me a lawyer for free. However, I also found a firm with a part-time lawyer that works with a big Firm nearby. Chances are, either way, I will be able to bring a lawyer with me when the time comes.

Whoa, that seems a bit excessive. Idaho is fairly lax with its punishments. $53 for speeding <15 over, double for >15 over. I think if you're more than 30 over it ramps up from there. Good luck though!
I already used my get out of jail card once.
When I was a LOT younger, I went sturgeon fishing on the snake river with a bunch of friends. Got really drunk, drank like a 6 pack of homebrewed double IPA (10% alc.). I then fell in the firepit and burned my hand pretty bad. It hurt so bad I had to get home to get some ice on it or something. Stupid me got in the car and started driving. I had my hand out the sun roof because the wind would make the burn go away. And going faster made it feel better. I was in the middle of nowhere, no cars, long straight away, can see for 10 miles, and just gunned it. Cop was hiding somewhere, caught up with me a couple miles further. He clocked me doing 127 (I thought I was @ 130) in a 65. So, here I am, drunk off my ass, driving 127 in a 65. He asks me how fast I was going, I say 65, he says he clocked me doing 127 and i laughed, told him no, that's impossible, i had the cruise control set to 65. He checked everything out and said have a nice night and drive careful. I had all the empty bottles in my passenger seat too. I was just begging to be thrown in jail.
So, karma says next time I'm FUCKED. (smash)

Hey it happens to the best of us. And I'm not gonna lie to you, I've gone a good bit faster in this car. Yeah It's not smart, and I carefully choose when and where to open it up, but it's so easy in a car like this. If I drove like grandma everyday, I'd buy a corolla or civic. Now, don't take this as
a green light to drive irresponsibly however there's no reason you can't play the game too..... get yourself a good radar detector. And don't pick up some cheap $90 POS either. Yeah it'll cost more but pay for itself in no time.

Just had court yesterday. The DA was reasonable and lowered the fine from 100/65 to 90/65 and it comes to $255 dollars, but also 6 points on the license.
BAH! At least I know I will be taking defensive driving courses to get rid of those points.

i got a verbal warning today for ~60 in a 40. he didnt shoot radar just saw me pass by and said i was going about 60, which i was. so i guess he gave me the verbal warning because he didnt have a solid reading on my speed. but are verbal warnings recorded or not? as in if i get pulled over again will it have a flag that i received a warning already?

unless you are truly unlucky and get pulled over by the same cop, you should have no record of that warning. (trust me tho, they will remember you, I have a speeding ticket to prove it)

I remember when I was 18, coming home from <wherever>, and walking into the kitchen, to have this conversation:
Mom: You're home on time.
Me: I'd have been here earlier if I hadn't gotten a speeding ticket on the way home!
Luckily for me, my dad had gotten his Miata about a year before, and in that year had gotten two speeding tickets, probably his first in 40 years! He also hadn't told my mom about them until just then!
I had to pay the ticket, but I don't think there was any home-brewed punishment for that one!
