For all you CX-7, Mazdaspeed6 and Mazdaspeed3 people out there, i had some goodies in the works I wanted to get some serious interest on.
First up, Titanium connecting rods. We all know the internals of the DISI 2.3 are tough but they could be even tougher, especially for big turbos and big numbers. Make no mistake, these will be expensive but they will be the premium connecting rod for your engine. Pauter Machine explains;
Similar to the chrome moly 4340 Billet, our titanium rods are crafted from 6AL4V Titanium Bar Stock. The titanium rods differ from our 4340 billet in that they weigh considerably less for reduced rotating and reciprocating weight. On average, the titanium rods weigh 33% less than the 4340 counterpart. In a 6-cylinder engine, that is equal to removing the weight of 2 steel rods from the complete rotating assembly. Typically, the big end of a 4340 rod weighs more than an entire titanium rod.
I am looking at a few companies to fab up a set of rods but they will be twice as much as a set - at least - over your average forged rod.
Of course every forged rod needs a forged piston :) We'll be sending stock pistons off to the various manufacturers we deal with in a guaranteed endeavour to produce a piston superior to what is currently being offered for the car.
Lastly, performance cams. We have sent stock cams off for measurement, inspection and testing to see what kind of improvements can be made. Cams in the mazda market have not been readily available and we think a good turbo cam could free up a good bit of power for the 2.3 engines.
Of course, none of this is possible without a serious interest from the consumer. If there are at least 5 to 10 of you who want to see something like this happen, please post here or PM me and let me know and i'll see what it takes to get the ball rolling on one or all of these ideas.
