Get ARP head studs and Cometic multilayered head gasket. You should not reuse the stock head bolts or head gasket. At least get stock replacements, but the ARP + Cometic would be best.

84 or 84.5 mill?

84 or 84.5 mill?
i think that's pretty much your own call. thicker gasket lowers compression.

84 or 84.5 mill?
That number refers to bore diameter. 84 if it is pretty much stock bore, 84.5 if its bored out. The thickness will be .030 for the 84mm bore.
Edit: Kooldino sells the thicker version drops compression. I think the thickness is .07 something.

Yep, you have the right idea. You need to decide what bore you will go with before you buy the head gasket.

You're going to need either ARP head studs or OEM head bolts.

It's always a good idea.

You'll need a gasket set INCLUDING a head gasket. Check my website for the goodies.

84 or 84.5 mill?
84 if you're going to stay stock bore, 84.5 if you're going to overbore.

Yep, you should get a complete gasket set. The cometic set will not include every thing you need though... It does not contain the front crankshaft seal for some reason. It also does not contain an oil pickup gasket or the gasket for the oil return line for the turbo (you may be able to reuse the one for the oil return because it's metal, but a new one would be better). If you give me awile I can get you mazda part #'s for those gaskets. I had to order them myself a few weeks ago.

hey... im going to pull this thing out and apart before i buy anything... for some obvious reasons.. but... i was wundering is it foolish to go to 8:5:1 compression ratio if im only going to boost max 10-11 psi daily... or should i just stay with the 9:1 ? thanks

This can be argued over and over, but if you think that there might be any chance you will upgrade the turbo or run high boost pressures, then you might as well go 8.5:1. You will not feel much of a difference in power anyway.

If the most psi your going to run is 10-11 then 9:1 CR is no problem.you sould definately make sure its tuned well though, but if your rebuilding your motor just get the 8.5:1 CR forged pistons, they will not hurt performance and they are far more resistant to detination then 9:1

Yes, you should definitely go with 8.5:1 and have supporting mods though.

What do you plan on using for ems? You are going to need something if boosting past 8-9 psi or you could lean out and blow that newly built motor. You will definitely need an afc or something to run the 440's.

wasnt really sure if i was or was not.. i really want to boost 10 psi daily.. with option to go higher if i ever want.. i need to simply get the thing running again... but i feel like it would only make sense to make it more durrable yes no? so i guess if i have to i will get ems... but i dont really want to go that far jsut yet ... can i boost 10 psi daily with a re-build and stronger parts?

you can...but your just gonna ruin the motor again. If your gonna up the boost and run it hard its a good idea to get something to controll that new forged motor. I went with a haltech e6x, but there are a million other systems you can go with.

yes with the supporting mods. once i rebuild i plan to run 10 psi daily with my dsm afc

I ended up going with 9:1 CR Pistons just for the everyday commute factor. It has been argued to the end of the earth. But I can tell a difference between 8.5 and 9.0 driving around town. 8.5 Feels a tad sluggish to me, but if you plan on boosting 15+psi its a good idea to go with 8.5.

once you open up the exhaust get a better intercooler and a afc. you wont run into the problem. or atleast have a greater chance of it not happening

i have turbohoses pipes
here is a good list to check before uping the boost
Boosting Safe:
07psi - Stock
08psi - Catback exhaust, CAI, stage colder plugs
09psi - All the above, plus hardpipes, smic, and j-pipe replacement
10psi - All the above plus FMIC, full turbo back exhaust, some form of fuel management (AFC for example)
These have been tested by DSMConvert
14psi - All the above plus 440cc injectors and wideband.

as for the cat-back yes, but as for intake SRI or CAI it is better then an airbox

lol this debate again. a cai intake has minimal gains over a stock airbox. check out blkzoomzoom. for awhile he had one of the quickest proteges at the track and he kept the stock box with a k and n filter. spending 250 bucks for a CAI is worthless in my honest opinion.
