Just curious what people had before they decided to get the CX-7. I for one had a 1998 Expedition gas hog that I held onto a for 9 years. Nothing like no car payments :)
As for a history, we had a 1998 Pontiac GTP, an 1995 Impala SS, 1990 300Z Twin Turbo, 87 Grand National, 87 Mustang, 84 1/2 Mustang GT, 84 Shelby Charger and my very first car, a 1978 Formula Firebird 6.6 with a 403 Olds Special. We also have a 1995 Mazda MPV, currently.
I traded my 97 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS 4X4 which has 125,000 miles on it and I had it for almost 10 yrs. It served me well but it needs to be replaced. The only thing I missed about it is cargo room and the rugged looks. And yes, I am very happy with my CX7. I've had it since Dec 06 and I still stare at it endlessly.

Sounds like my situation. 128,000 miles, 9 years. :)
The CX-7 is a great little vehicle (well, anything will feel little after driving a boat for 9 years). Now, when there is an errand to be run, I always seem to be the one running out to complete them. It is certainly more fun to drive, that's for certain.

My previous car was a 1992 Nissan 240SX (owned for 8.5 years). I got the CX-7 because I was tired of staring at bumpers while sitting in traffic. (wiggle)

Just curious what people had before they decided to get the CX-7.
Traded my 2005 Tahoe LT 4X4 in on the CX-7 for my wife. I'm driving her old Cavalier until September and will either buy an Audi A4, MS3, WRX, or maybe an RX-8. She loves the CX-7, and I hate that bloody cavalier with every part of my body.
THe other cars I've owned previous to the CX-7:
1975 Chevrolet K5 Blazer (sold)
1977 Mercury Comet (sold)
1977 Cadillac Eldorado (sold)
1979 Chevrolet Corvette L-82 Coupe (will never get rid of)
1992 Ford Ranger XLT (totaled)
1993 Mazda Miata (sold to sister)
1997 F350 4X4 diesel (sold)
2001 Ford F150 XL (traded)
2003 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II (traded)
Ive got an old 2-stroke 750cc water cooled Suzuki motorcycle too... may sell soon.

I had a 2004 Mazda RX 8 GT. I just needed some space for my son and jewelry biz and I wanted something sporty and with some Zoom-Zoom. I had the picture of it hanging on my wall where I design my jewelry for over a year before they decided to put it into production and I said, "This is my next car". I wrote Mazda and said to them..."build it and I will buy it". Of course they built it just for me! ha,ha! ;]

We sold my wife's 1995 Honda Passport and got the CX-7. She loves it.
We wanted to look at the RDX but it wasn't due to be released for several months. As it turns out the CX-7 was the better deal. Our's fully loaded was priced at the point where the RDX started.

So, a trend appears and it is much like Mazda has expected. Instead of moving from a car to a SUV, the CUV is a growing market. Most people have moved from a car to the CUV according to the small sampling we have. The second trend is a move from a larger SUV to the smaller CUV. Looks like Mazda did their homework.

I replaced my '06 Acura CSX with the CX-7... but I also knew my S2000 was going to have to be sold, too (which it finally did a few weeks ago, moving soon)... so knowing that I made sure whatever I went with (CX-7) was reasonably sporty and fun to drive.

I recently was driving a 1986 Porsche 944 with 270,000kms. Time for a change. I miss the tightness of the steering, and predictable linear response of the throttle, but in all other respects I much prefer the CX-7.
Ahhhh, new car smell.

I've clearly moved up in the car world. You folks have taste. I came to the CX-7 from a 97 mazda protege. I guess I was ready for a big jump. It's been hard for me to justify a new car as I walk to work and put on very few miles. But I decided that here on out I should love the driving I do. Suddenly I want to do more road trips.

Moved from an Audi A4 2004 3.0. I had a 2001 A4 1.8T before that.
Have a 5 year old son now and 2 dogs and needed something that I could used with the family, without using my wife's car all the time.
Also... Even though I really liked the look and driving feel of a luxury German car, I couldn't justify the price difference with the amount of driving I do.
I really like the CX-7 so far. Much better/quieter then my wife's Saab 92-X (Subaru WRX clone). Turbo engine seems better then the Subaru too. It reminds me a lot of how the Turbo felt in my A4 1.8T.
Now if someone could just come up with a chip or something to let me boost the turbo a little bit more.... that would really be cool.

1966 Mustang- Sold
1987 Z28 Camaro- Traded
1999 Civic SI- Totaled (I really miss this car )
2001 Prelude- Traded
2003 Civic EX- Traded

And I am glad to say that the CX7 is my favorite out of the bunch. The only problem is trying to get the keys back from the wife after she drives it.

A silver 1998 Honda Civic! I got tired of constantly seeing myself in the rearview mirror, which is one of the reasons the Mazda is so appealing!
I love my CX-7 like crazy, but boy do I miss getting 31/40 MPG!

We traded her 2002 Mazda Millinea with 26,000 miles. It was a WONDERFUL car, but b-o-o-o-o-o-ring.
She loves the CX-7, and it gives me one more reason to love her! (kiss)
