Okay, my wife was driving yesterday and we were next to a Cobalt (didn't have the SS on the back). The car walked away rather easily from us. I am thinking with the mods we have on the car that is should have beat a regular cobalt easily and hung around a cobalt SS. Am I wrong ?
This leads me to think there is somthing wrong with the car. I have been wanting to change out the Wastegate Actuator and have one on the way to change out. Would this make the car slower ? I just would think the car should be quicker.
Current mods...
Unichip .. (running MAP B with boost control on)
Perring FMIC..
Vibrant turbo back..
Perrin SRI....
Suggestions... please?

No suggestions ? Should the car really be this slow ?

The Cobalt SS is pretty quick if thats what it was. So don't feel bad.

No boost/vacume gauge. I have a fellow thread member that is selling me one but I won't have it for another week or so...

I think your car should have been quicker too. (uhm)
Have you changed your spark plugs? Are they the right heat range?
Check your intake plumbing for boost leaks.

well there are gm performance upgrades for the ss/sc cobalt. Did it have the big ugly wheels? Either way with your setup I'd say you should definately been closer if not ahead. Maybe you suck at driving ;)

It was my wife driving and i know she was in the right gear and on it hard. I'm not sure. I'm going to get the wastegate actuator in this week so hopefully it's somthing with that. Hopefully my boost just isn't kicking in. I haven't changed my plugs either. i didn't think that would make that much of a speed differance. they are cheap. i've been planning on doing that but we just switched up the boost a few days ago after i did the exhaust.

The plugs should help, but probably not much. I plan to go with Denso IK22 iridium plugs soon. I believe they come pre-gapped properly for the MSP.

need more info...boost psi? exhaust leaks before turbo maybe? Wastegate stuck open? Map B (LED On) may be causing your ecu to retard timing, try map A (LED Off) and see if it feels better.

I'm getting the boost gauge this week. I've tried Map A and Map B and both have similar results. They both run smooth but I'm expecting better performance. I'm going to go through the car and double check for leaks monday. It's got to be somthing little. I'm sure I'll figure it out really soon here.

I installed it almost a month ago now. It's run fine. After the vibrant exhaust install last weekend I switched the boost control on. It's performing slightly better but not as expected....
I'm going to check for leaks.. install the boost gauge... install a new wastegate actuator and plugs... if that doesn't help i'm going to have the unichip tuned for my car. I don't know. Hopefully I won't have to have it tuned yet because that's a bit more money. Only local shop wants like 350.

You should consider a new boost controler due to the unichip one sucks peanor...

I hear a lot of people say that, but I beleive I've seen post from JDMSam (whom everyone worships for his UNICHIP knowledge) say that it's a good boost controler.
I may not even need to run the boost controler. I just ordered a Forge wastegate actuator with a 9 psi spring in it. I beleive that's suposed to keep the boost at or around 9 psi wich is fine with me.

I thought Sam said the uni mcb was a pos? ... atleast im pretty sure he did..
neways lots of ppl use the ATP actuator.. consider that if the forge doesnt work out to well...

Who loaded the map? The EBC works as good as the tuner that tunes it.
It's the same valve that AEM, Haltech, and many other companies use.

that's why I haven't thought about the boost controler at all. I figure he's the man....

it has to be an cobalt SS, and probley moded some.. rollen sleeper style you remove the SS badges, ther for you get more races and get that surprise ass woopin look on others faces.. the shame, a cobalt.. but it has to be an SS which has more power than the MSP, and if moded, they get very fast.. we have a few around here that are 260 hp to the wheels,, ther fast but, they cant turn, stop, at the end its still a cobalt, the replacment for a cavalier..MSP are fast cars, ther not the fastest, but its mazda, its built well , it turns and stops, and looks alot better as well.. basicly dont sweet the cavalier replacment...<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

WRCprotege, They can stop and turn. They are a well balanced car if you ask me. The only flaw I really see in the car is the interior. The leather feels like shat and the plastic they use felt like it came from a 89 IROC.
Neways they do come with a sunroof leather 18's and a nice supercharger.
For the most part with your mods if that SS was stock then you "should" be able to hang with the guy.

Well, I finnaly found it. There was the worlds smallest leak in one of the couplers. I took the front bumper off and my wife noticed there has been a little rubbing on one of the couplers against the frame where it was cut for the Perrin cold pipe to pass through on the out side of the intercooler. It was the worlds smallest hole that realy didn't look like it went all the way through the coupling. We took an old coupling from an injen intake that was a little larger and doubled up on the coupler to strenghten it up. We put it all back together and it's sweet.
The car is a totally new car to drive. It goes through first and second so quick now. It's builds boost so quickly that as soon as it starts it's ready to shift. The blow-off is so much louder too. I thought the perrin blow off was just quiet or somthing but I now figure it's the ammount of boost gettting released. The car is a beast. Thanks for all the suggestions.
