I am putting a replacement engine into my MSP and have been running into a few diferences between them, so I decided to make a topic about it to have all my questions answered in one spot.

First thing is the extra oil lines and what not on the back side of the engine. The new engine does not have these and I was wondering if I they are necessary? the first pic is of old engine and second is new one.

Those lines are used to supply oil to the turbo... so if you are still going to be turbo then you will need these lines.

The MSP just has the oil cooler with associated coolant lines sitting on the back of the engine. then yeah the oil line for the turbo, the return line that is drilled/tapped into the crankcase girdle, the coolant line on the back of the engine for coolant supply to the turbo, and the coolant return elbow on the front for return.

Two more questions:

What size socket do I need to remove the oil cooler? I need to go buy one.

What size socket do I need to remove CV shaft on the end of the wheel hub?

I think the oil cooler can be removed with a 1 1/8" socket. Remember that you will also need to remove the threaded sleeve from your old motor. It is longer than the regular N/A sleeve to account for the oil cooler. Last time I did it I used the standard nut and then locked an old oil filter on top of it. The oil filter would keep the nut from loosening and actually loosen the whole sleeve from the block. That will require a large adjustable wrench since a socket won't work at that point. It may take a little trial and error , but it can be done. The spindle nuts are 32mm.

29mm axle socket fits as well. Have fun. I've been doing a few of these lately.

Dude, your not joking either! It took me forever to get the ball joint separated even with the pickle fork! I also had to repaint the new engine since it was turning brown and didnt look pretty.
