I want to know what you think.

Should I get the sedan headlights with HID bulbs (easier than rewiring new ones) or get HID lights for the stock P5 headlights?

Lighting has a better cut-off I've heard on the sedan which is one of the reasons I want them.

Also, is taking the front bumper off a big deal or pretty easy? I have the instructions from uglyprotege.net but I want to know if it's pretty easy.

I wouldn't think that sedan light cutoff would be as sharp with HID sources as with halogen.

If you like your high beams stick with P5 lights.

i personally prefer the dual lights in the p5 to the sedan ones

i've taken the bumper cover off a couple times now, and it's not a big deal - both times all i had to go off of was the diagram from the shop manual (what you have). it's tedious and takes about an hour to get off, but it's not bad - there are far worse things than doing this

I've heard of HID kits having both hi and lows xenon (not that hybrid bulb on top of the hid bulb). But they cost more. Sticking with the P5 will save you money and hi/low beams. If you got the money and wanna be different get the sedan lights :P.

well, since you asked, I'd stick with the P5 lights as well. Personally, I like the looks of them better than the sedan. As far as the HID retro-fit, and I know that there will be some who will argue, but it is a bad idea to retro-fit HID's into a headlight housing with reflectors that were designed for halogens.

I just sold 2 sets of HID lights to a guy with a P5. He installed them in his high beams and low beams.

There are bi-xenon kits that exist for the protege sedan headlights that will give you HID highs and lows too.

So really it's up to you. Buy a new set of headlights and a more expensive HID kit or buy 2 regular HID kits and install them.

This is what they look like (don't mind the lense scratches;))

Stick with the P5 headlights. You will be happier in the long run.

A retrofit is when you custom modify a headlight to use an OEM hid projector and usually use OEM parts to make it work. Is that what you mean?

The other way is a HID kit. That is what Mark wants.

In Japan the Break version comes with HID's and it uses the same P5 headlight housing. Don't do a retro-fit though. They look good if done right but they do block some light.

go all the way. retrofit some s2k or tsx projectors in the pro5 assembly.

yeah or for half that money or less, you can have true HIDs, and they will look much better, and much brighter IMHO :o

If you dont swap out the stock halogen housing for a projector you're going to get a gross amount of glare and almost no cut off if you just put in the HID bulb system into your stock halogen housing.

I would also like to know what light it blocks. When I did my retro on my corolla I got better light output then my protege. The projectors spread the beam out wider and sent the beam further down the road. The only light it blocks is the light that blinds people on the road.

yeah.. the cutoff is there for a damn good reason! :)

but what about this headlight oil? how often do I need to change it, and do they make a synthetic that I can pay 4x as much for for marginally better longevity?
