I’m trying to get a new set of rims and tires for my 2003 Mazda Protégé ES. I’m thinking about upgrading from my stock 16s to 17s, but I’m not sure of what size tires to get. Discount Tire’s website says I can use: 205/40-17, 205/45-17 or 215/40-17. I also noticed the 2003 Protégé MazdaSpeed uses a 215/45-17 tire.

The wheels I’m looking at right now are 17x7.5 and my car isn’t lowered (one of these days I might). Could someone give me some suggestions?

Also, if anyone has pictures of their ride on 17s, please post with tire dimensions so I can get an idea of what it will look like. Thanks.

i would go with 215/40/17 on 17x7.5 rims. I'm running 17x7s with 205/40/17 on my protege. 45 series tires is just asking for rubbing issues, especially once you go lowered.

btw, welcome to the forums! =)

HERE (http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w189/jeg0024/DSC02879.jpg) is a pic of the rim and tire up close, it doesnt show how close it is to the fender tho because I think the other side of the car was jacked up at that moment.

17 x 7.5 with 48 offset

215/45-17 rubbing only when full passengers and hard corners. but raises the ground cleareance. which i like but its opinionated

im thinking of getting 4 millenia s wheels off ebay to replace the rota subzeros i messed up. the tires that were on them are 215/45-17; the subzero wheel size i believe was 17x7.5" will these fit or cause any issues on the 17x7" millenia wheels? thanks.

im not doubting 205/40-17 is the key, but i already bought and paid for the 215/45-17 and due to my idiotic luck they need a home. so i was wondering if they'd fit the 17x7 wheels from the millenia

They should but if your not lowered, you may get a 4x4 look.

i have stock set up on suspension and im going to get 17x7s and was wondering if there really was a difference between the 205/40, 215/40, and 215/45 and what that difference was
