jeg0024
03-20-2007, 07:30 PM
I will be posting up pics in the next few days with pics of my cars conversion finally being complete. Today I painted my upper grill body color and dropped off the side skirts and rear lip for paint. Paint match on the dupli color "silver metalic" was freakin awesome! Its only for the grill and eyelids though, im getting a real job done on the rest:)

MSP conversion... or MP3 conversion.. cause your missing the turbo my friend..
Yeah, and its the MP3 rear lip as long as its the same off of an 02MSP. I guess you could say MP3 because im not going turbo, but im gonna keep my regular Protege badging, dont wanna put out a bad name for the MSP if ya know what I mean lol.
Good question though, am I doing a MSP conversion or an MP3 conversion? Because im not gonna go with the MP3 wing.
Matthew1785
03-20-2007, 11:52 PM
Well technecally your doing a MP3 conversion the wing was changed in 03.5 for the MSP, the MP3 and MSP up to 03.5 had the MP3 wing personally if your going to do the MSP conversion just turbo it! haha you know u wana!

I do know I wanna turbo, I just dont have the $ and dont wanna go zoom zoom boom! And ive already spent too much on NA stuff such as header, intake, and exhaust. Would it be wrong to re-badge mine as an MP3? I think it says more and theres more to be proud of if you let people know its just a DX.

Not until the conversion is complete. but to each his own. as for being N/A if you plan to go turbo, stop while your ahead now and start piecing your kit now. Im all for complete restoration, and conversions if you want to go the custom route do that, if you want to go strict by the book do that as well. but if you dont plan on staying N/A, get the kit sell your N/A stuff and mod away when you have money of course. but nothing says turbo like working a summer job and earning 4k to blow on a kit that if your careful enough wont go zoom zoom BOOM

I plan on staying NA. Its pleanty fast for me...not really, but I cant imagine the tickets I would get with a turbo. I dont really wanna turn my car into a MSP or MP3 I just want it to look and sound nice and be consderably fast at the same time. Custom I guess you would say.

There OEM fogs with headlight armor hid blue layovers. Its like rockblockers, just thicker and better;) I love the fact that there hard wired and I have total control over them.

Damn guys, I drove by the shop today and my car is still just sitting there, I called them when I got home and they said they were working on it right now but I doubt that, I just wanted to make sure it wasnt gonna sit there over the weekend and they said it would be done tomorrow, and it damn better be! Its gonna be worth the wait though.

Yeah man, because my car was still where I freakin parked it the other day and unless they saw me driving through to check the place out, which I dont think they did, and then took it into the shop right away to work on it, but I know its still sitting there. They said it could be done today, kinda, but I said tomorrow was ok, I really dont wanna rush it. Thing is though, they said they would call for the car when the skirts were out of paint and I figured dropping off the car before they called would just kinda put them in a hurry up mode but I guess not.

Its the lip off of the pre03.5 MSP (its off a 2002.5 MSP I think). I think its also the one on the MP3's but im not sure. The 03.5 rear lip is more rounded off kinda like the 03.5 front lip and its got a few extra lines, IMO it doesnt look good without the 03.5 front lip.

Correct, he has both 03.5 front and rear lips. As you can see in his sig the rear lip is more rounded off to match the front, it looks nice with the lip, but I would stick with the one I got if your not gonna do the lip.

Awesome man, car looks great! I'm sure you'll be enjoying it for a while now. Car looks more upscale, definitely worth it. I like the ES wing too.
Yeah the rear lip difference can be confusing, since they used one for the MP3/03MSP and another for the 03.5 MSP only. Compare this pic to Jegs and you can see the difference:

Thanks! I really didnt have to put much thought into it because some of the stripes were faded more than the others anyways. The older ones came off easier and the new ones left more sticky stuff, but nothing compaired to the side moldings:) I like the new look. Im gonna get some good outside pics tomorrow as long as its not raining again.

how did you get the pinstriping off exactly.? like how did you get the edge up? im assuming it was pretty easy after you got a hold of it. looking into doing this myself. and finishing my door moldings too.

Just used my thumb nail to get the end of it up and slowly pull it off, its gonna brake like 500 times and you have to pull it up again. Once you get it all off if there is any sticky stuff left just hit it with some goo gone or something and rub off the stuff, be sure to whipe it down with a wet and then a dry rag to remove the goo gone after all the sticky stuff is gone. Its 1000 times easier than removing the junk left behind by the side moldings. Took me about an hour from start to finish and I like the new cleaner look:)

Thanks man! Im trying my best:) lol, I haven't had a job sence January but that don't stop me from modding my car!
The eyelids are held on with a thick double sided tape I got at Office Depo, but the corners still stuck out a bit from the headlight so I used some silacone to keep them in place.

As hard as it is to not look at the model in your sig I still saw it out of the corner of my eye lol. It looks nice with that DG lip, thats what I want, I just think my car is too low to the ground already for the roads around here though.
D-rock240
05-09-2007, 04:59 PM
LOL yes it is hard to concentrate on something besides the model. The DG lip really gives an aggressive look to the car and goes well with the eyelids. You may scrape the underneath but nobody sees that anyway. My vote is for you to get the DG lip :)

As a suggestion to painting some of your parts, it would be cheaper if you did it yourself. I found a automotive paint store in my area(KC Autopaint) that will mix you paint for you color code and put it in an arasal spray can for you. So you can do it yourself.

Ive found some sprays at auto zone that I used for my eyelids and grill, which I just used the left over tonight, but it matches pretty well. If I get painted mirrors and handles I want to have them already painted off another car or something though so it will match right. I have some touch up paints in the glove box, I wonder if I could get someone to aerosal them?

They said everything was ok back there, its not as bad as it was but I guess it was always there and just changed with the wind noise from the gash. I also got them to repaint the right front quarter pannel because of the paint bubble from last time they worked on it and it looks a ton better now.
