Mazda 5 Prices in Canada and Questions

Hi all,

My family went to the dealership (or stealer$hip as they're commonly referred to :) ) and took a look at the Mazda 5. We like it...

My wife really likes the trunk space, captain chairs, and the other options on the GT 5MT. I am concerned about the lack of power as I'm currently driving a 99 Maxima SE 5 speed. I am also concerned about the suspension noise issue, and tire wear (after reading the euro postings).

Questions if anyone could help:
1. Considering it's a 2.3L @ around 150hp, how is it? I read that most get around 20-25mpg, but I get that now with my Maxima driving it like I stole it. :)

2. The dealership is asking $27000 for a 2007 GT 5MT AIR + GST. Personally, I never pay the MRSP price. Any recommendations on where I could look up and get the best deal in Western Canada?

3. How is this vehicle for reliability? What are your biggest grips?

4. Conversely, what do you love about your M5?

5. Is owning the Black a PITA? I was considering the Silver or Grey.

All/any feedback would be appreciated!

$27000 + GST. I don't think so. I got my 2006 GT MTX with climate control for $27.600 out the door. That's Taxes, PDI, branding. YOu should be paying around $23K +PDI and taxes. $27k looks like MSRP to me and a dealership that's not interested in dealing! Go get the Invoice price from carcostcanada.com and take that info to the dealer. If the price doesn't drop, just walk out the door. They'll either deal or not.

BTW I bought mine in Toronto from Scaroborugh MAzda who took the invoice price +2% which I felt was fair!

I've never looked back. love my 5, all cars have their quirks. The front suspension creak is a bit annoying, but it only happens on really cold days and I have not had the freezing door issue.

Suspension Noise is simple replacement of rubber bushings and that is it had it done and all is fine

I drive the sh_t out of mine and it is fine, this 5 is still a car as my teenager says

Well if your getting a 5 you can price it on Mazda.ca and select your province the mark up at the end of day is about 1250 for that car. You should expect to pay 4-5 % over cost for in stock unit

No issues with reliability... grips are minimal to mention
4. Conversely, what do you love about your M5?
Everything
5. Is owning the Black a PITA? I was considering the Silver or Grey.
Maybe when you look at colors find some time on a sunny day to select the color as the rich metallic paint really jumps out....All/any feedback would be appreciated!

Its the bushings that are causing the problem. The dealer will replace it since its still under warrenty. You should get it checked out

I like the diesel suggestion. But at the very least, I would like to see better fuel millage (with the same power).

A 5 speed AT is also a most for next year. Other than that I love my 5 and don't miss my MPV.

I think the 5 has pretty good fuel ecomony given the boxy shape. I'm getting 25 miles per gallon in mixed driving and up to 28 when I have a long Highway stretch

that's about 8l/100km for highway driving for us Canuks!

Oh yeah, try finding one to test drive. When I was in the purchase cycle last summer, trying to find one in the Toronto area to test drive was nearly impossible. They were all sold and in the PDI phase.

$25,800 OTD (in Saskatchewan, so includes 10% tax) cash purchase

Car Cost Canada lists $22,394 invoice, but get an account ($39.95) and check to see if the local dealers got a lower invoice price)

Add 3% markup as a starting point for your negotiations= $23,065

Add $1535 Freight+PDI = $24600

Subtract $500 if you're financing or $3000 if you're paying cash = $24100/$21600

+GST (stupid Alberta with just one tax grumble) = $25305/$22680 OTD. ($26692/$24192 in BC)

So if you're able to negotiate just 3% markup and don't need any accessories and resist the urge to any undercoat, rust, etc. then you should get a pretty good price, and if you want to get leather and NAVI check the invoice price on that and similarily mark 3% up on that. With accessories, you just have to see what's the best price they can give you for those...

I guess I should clarify...I did buy the Mazda5...apparently Saskatchewan dealers don't move lots on the price...figured they wouldn't go for less than 5% markup...

SDenn, I think you got a good price on yours considerring the 10% tax and $300+ in accessories and that 3rd key costs $300.

2.5 L 6 Speed manual would be nice eh..

And for all above if you have questions about CCC please send em to me...I will tell you why at that point.

As for mark up... if Sask can sell a 5 over a truck I would pay full price lol JK(headbang)

Would like to share some information/experience from my recent purchase as well.

Got my M5 GT auto in late March. Used car cost canada's price report as the starting point of the negotiation (I registered an account back in 2004 and used their reports for my last car purchase too. It's probably the best $39 I have ever spent). At that time the invoice price is $24675 (for auto and paint extra -- this extra was removed in April for all colors except pearl white) and I proposed a 3% mark up for them. Maybe they misheard me and the final price they gave me was 24700. Since this was what they asked for I had to accept.(lol)

Then I decided to grab some accessories as some kind of return -- cargo cover, cargo tray (the one from M3 as the sales recommended, because the one for M5 doesn't have the vertical edge so it can't really keep sand/water within the tray), hood deflector, and the roof rack. Also spent $1150 on a 6yr/160k extended warranty (with 4 free oil changes). After all these add up, the saving from 5yr 0% financing is much more than the $3000 cash incentive. So I went for that and got $750 factory rebate (down to $500 after the end of March). At last, to my surprise, the dealer gave me over $200 courtesy discount.

I didn't buy the all-weather mat even though it's a must for the true north. The sales told me that the one from Mazda is quite flimsy and again can't hold much snow/mud. So I decided to order from WeatherTech -- had one set in one of my previous cars and it's the best.

Unfortunately I am still waiting for the backordered item to come in, so can't show you how it looks in my M5 now. Wish I found this forum before I bought last weekend. Got the GS auto/air for $25K even but instead of those options, I just got the scotchguard and tinted windows which they tell me is around $700 value. I feel like a sucker.

In May 2009, we bought a 2009 GT Luxury, Auto, pearl white, 160K comprehensive warranty, remote starter, hood deflector, cargo cover, cargo net, all weather mats, etching, 3 years of free oil changes, etc. for $31,000 including all taxes. No cash back as we took the 0% financing.
