Finally my 3" turbo back has been shipped as of yesterday afternoon. With all my mods and this put together I think I will have the fastest and most modded MS3 on this forum...hehe Someone needs to give me a cookie as soon as possible. Make it chocolate...lmao Damn, im wondering what a tranny AWR mount is? Can't seem to find anything of that sort. I read in on this other thread. Wonder if it is worth it...???

Have you done any dynos yet or plan to after installing the tubo back?

That sounds nice,I wish I had the money now for all that.I hear the real gains are in replacing the midpipe thing just after the 1st CAT and shit canning the 2nd CAT..I read that you will get no CEL if the 2nd CAT is missing. So Im guessing its just a 3" pipe from the 1st CAT right to the cat-back system.

Congrats on the turbo back. I know I'm jealous. Would love to hear some sound clips when you get it installed.

However, enjoy that cookie knowledge007. When I receive my CPE CAI, 3.25" polished intercooler upgrade, Turbo Smart Dual Port BOV, Rear Motor Mount, TWM shifter bushings, and catless midpipe, I should have the fastest and most modded MS3 on this forum. Mmmmmmm...Cookies.(hump)

I am waiting on the CPE EMS before I upgrade to the turbo back for fear of hitting fuel cut with the other mods installed. There is still substantial power increases with just a free flowing catless midpipe as the stock catback is capable of handling much more power. Also going to upgrade with fully adjustable coilovers, rotors and pads (when available), and OZ Ultraleggera wheels in matte graphite.

Keep up if you can!!! (drive2) j/k

I was going to try a dyno run before I install and after installation. But I don't know of any dyno's here in Miami. The closest one I know of is in Broward. So with that being said, I think I'm just going to wait for the installation and then see where I am at.

No. From what I understand, and believe me I have asked a thousand times Josh must want to kill me by now, it will have one high flow cat. I am replacing the whole system with their turbo back system from the mani back.

Depending the droning, if there is any then we already have with the stock exhaust, I will purchase the resonator. But I have a feeling that I will love this system.

Hehe, will see my friend.

What do you mean fuel cut. Is their anything I should be worried about or are you just talking about the system with NO CAT?

Also, I very curious about a short shifter. What gains will that give me and do you think I really need it???

PLEEEEASE post a review of the system once it's installed! A lot of people are anxious for a third-party, unbiased review of the sound and quality of the system. We'd be so grateful if the first person to install the turbo back shared his thoughts with everyone on the boards!

And for whatever it's worth, you don't have to worry about any fuel cut, and since you opted for the catted downpipe, you don't need to worry about any check engine lights. You can just install the system and enjoy the newfound power and sound without any adverse effects :D

With just the turbo back and CAI, he will be fine. I was talking about when you have those two and add the top mount upgrade. I was told by someone very knowledgable who also sells, and praises CPE products that if I were to put all three on my car, the stock ECU MIGHT not be able to handle it and I could POSSIBLY hit fuel cut. I am just going to play it safe with the CAI, TMIC, and catless midpipe for now.

In no way was I trying to bash or scare people away from your product. I have the CPE CAI on order and will order the CPE turbo back when your EMS is released (hopefully soon). I was just pointing out the limitations of the stock ECU in my case since I will have the TMIC. Please correct me if I am wrong, you guys are the experts on this car. Call ME if you need advice on the H-60 helicopter. GO NAVY!! Hehe.

I love your products and hope to see many more very soon. Thank you for all the hard work and top notch engineering you guys put into your products.

You are the best CP-E hands down in my book. I just noticed that it was the cat back system that was shipped. Should I be expecting the DP Monday to be shipped?

And of course I will post vids and sound clips as soon as the whole system is installed

Again, please thank Josh for me and everybody else at CP-E for their professionalism and expertise for their products.

Ah, no worries! You're absolutely right that if you mod your car enough you will hit a fuel cut without proper tuning. I just wanted to make it clear to 007 that the addition of a turbo back exhaust will not trigger a fuel cut in his case. We've found the ECU will cut fuel if you exceed a certain boost level or if your fuel trims are too far out of range.

And the next time my T700-GE-401 turboshaft breaks down you'll be hearing from me! :p

You'd better believe that I'll pass your praises on to Josh and company! The shop has been an absolute madhouse lately and everyone is stressed out, so I'm sure a little positive feedback will help cheer everyone up :D

I actually came back to this thread to let you know that it was just the catback that was shipped, but I see you already found this out. We finished your catback so we shipped it. But the downpipe still needs a flex pipe and a cat welded in, so we're going to finish that tomorrow. Anthony said as a worst case your downpipe will ship out on Tuesday.

By the way, are you installing this system or are you getting a shop to do it?

I have a Mazda mechanic shop that will be doing the install. Unfortunately I do not the necessary tools to perform the install myself.

Why? Is their anything you would like to address that the mech should know before the install?

Nope, actually the opposite :D

Since it sounds like you'll be the first non-cp-e member to install (or have installed) our exhaust system I was going to ask you to keep a pen and paper handy while you work. That way if you run into something that isn't clear enough in our instructions you could jot the info down and post it here for future installers, and we would also amend our instructions.

The catback installation should be a cakewalk, but the downpipe will require some more work (luckily not for you!). My only suggestion, which I think you should pass on to your mechanic, is NOT to force the top oxygen sensor out of the threaded bung in the stock downpipe. This information is bolded in our instructions, but if your mechanic knows what he's doing he may not have to rely on our instructions and may miss that blurb about the oxygen sensor.

The proper way to remove the sensor is to soak it in penetrating oil and let it sit for a few minutes. Start to loosen the sensor until there is resistance. Once you encounter resistance, DO NOT force it. Instead, work the sensor back and forth (tightening and loosening it) until it gets past that 'sticky' part of the threads. Neglecting to do so could destroy the O2 sensor threads, and those things aren't cheap.

Like I said, we bolded that section in the instructions, but it might not hurt just to point it out to him before he starts so he doesn't miss it. Otherwise, everything should be very straightforward.

Yes, I had asked him about this issue before b/c I knew this would be quite a challenge. He said he would apply exactly what you have stated. But I will mention to him the instructions as to work the o2 sensor out by loosening and tightening the sensor. Does this also apply for the second o2 or is this easier to extract? He also has stated that he will not work on the car hot. He will let the car sit until the car cools down. So with that being said it should take almost a day to install.

As to your request, yes I will do just that. I will take any notes necessary and post them. But for the most part I think everything should be fine.

Thanks again Jordan,

Can't wait to get the whole system in and installed.

Jordan,

I has asked in the MS6 thread about smoking and turbo seals. Does this conclusion apply to our turbo as well. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? Or do you think I should wait and see if their is a recall for the turbo seals???

The honest answer is that we don't know. I could lie to you and say, "No, it won't happen to you," but we won't know for sure until people start putting miles on these cars.

The only reason we knew about the MS6 smoking is because is happened to one of our customer's cars while it was at our shop. We of course jumped to concclusions and thought we screwed something up, so we contacted the customer, explained the issue, and then drove it to a trusted Mazda dealer to have it checked out. It turned out that we weren't at fault, and that the turbo seals were junk. And surprise, many other people posted on the forums with a similar story shortly thereafter.

Now, I personally haven't heard of this problem on the MS3's. But, even if you do suffer from this issue, it won't hurt anything. It's just an annoyance. The worst part is, despite the fact that Mazda has documented cases of this issue, they still refuse to replace the MS6 turbo seals. So waiting for Mazda's stance on the issue probably isn't going to help much, but I couldn't blame you for being cautious.

cp-e windshield decal!? That's awesome (burnout)

You know the saying, "You never know until you ask?" That certinaly applies here, so I'd suggest you give one of the owners a call and ask them about a discount. The guy you'll want to speak with is Josh Adams, and you can reach him at our shop anytime during the day 301-576-6142.

There was some progress on the PnP connectors, but I was too busy to pay attention to the commotion today (things are pretty crazy right now). I'll see if I can get a better rundown of the progress for you tomorrow.

My mazda mech said he wants to work on the car all day. He still hasn't given me a price yet. But if its more than the above I guess I am off to the dealer...

sorry, someone else has the cat-back system. another member on mazda 3 forums.com he had some pictures but hopefully its because of his situtation, he welded the cat-back flange onto the turbo xs race pipe because they don't match up. So for the most part. My car out of all of ours in the us will be hot doggin it all over Miami...lol safely of course...

I can hardly wait to see the dynos on this. I assume you are going to get one soon?

If you guys need any help/tips on the install, PLEASE don't hesitate to post questions in this thread, or even start a new one. Chances are that you guys won't be asking totally unique questions, and if we answer them online then future installers will be able to search the forums for help.

I hope you enjoy the results!!! (dance)

I have a question you can help me with. I'm just looking to purchase the system and was wondering if you could give some information about mufflers. What are the differences between going with a 6" axelback muffler and going with the 12" oval muffler? I'm mainly interested in performance and not so much with how it sounds.

Thanks!

ALRIGHT SYSTEM IS ON...!!! AND IT SOUND FUCKING AMAZING!!! And BIGJ884, its not as easy you think smarty. You get the system and let me know how it goes.

Anyway, have to give it up for CPE on the craftsmanship of this product. It is bar none the best I have seen and or purchased for any vehicle I have had.

I will be posting vids and pic come Monday as I do not have a my card reader for my camera at home...left it at work...dumb ass me.

I LOVE THIS AMAZING SYSTEM. IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY AND MORE!!!

shit, started on thursday by myself, tell you one thing the downpipe part is the hardest by way far. Between me trying to cut my stubborn ass pipe with the crappy rented cutters and the downpipe. I gave up because the downpipe will not come out. I've been forced to take it to a muffler shop on monday that will cut the damn thing out in like two friggen minutes after my 8 hour event. My time of course is only due to my sprained ankle (not very fast) and the fact that everytime i do something it always screws up. lol Anyway, I talked to josh at cpe about the downpipe but i was unable to get it out due to all but one of my turbo housing studs staying in (lucky me). So between that and the cat mount flange on the pipe, i was unable to get enough movement to remove the pipe. This case probably won't happen to anyone else, but like I said, nothing works for me. After one stupid cut in the wrong spot on the cat-back, 3 other attempts on the cat back and finally getting it cut, a nice bonk on the eye brow (look like a neanderthal), some angry throwing of the 3 piece cat back in the dumpster, i had finally got the stock pipe out. The O2 bung was just a cpe said, their trick worked like magic!! Good thing they mentioned that or i'd be getting another sensor. then the downpipe. Just a suggestion on the instructions, when taking off the top heat shield of the manifold, its way fricken easier to remove the turbo feed hose and remove it that way than 4 other hard to get to bolts of the intercooler support. Anyway, got that out after awhile, got the other heat shields out and both O2 sensors no prob, cept no space for most ratchets, the two support brace bolts, and the first four nuts on the downpipe/turbo housing. The last nut i stripped, go figure, after going all over town to get a damn smaller extension for my ratchet. Then had to go back and get a bolt/nut removal set. Got that off and that was the only stud that came out. Then i had to get a new stud/ nut since its a wast to try and get the nut off the stud for only a few bucks. Anyway, the damn downpipe wouldn't budge. AND, when i was putting it all back together, I was threading the damn bov back on and of course that damn manifold coming from the intercooler is soo soft it just wants to be rethreaded everytime, I wasn't even putting any force upon it to make sure it didn't do it, but to the will of god if screwed up and hopefully the guy at the shop has a tap/die set so he can help me out, and the reinstall of the stock parts for monday was soo damn easy i thought i had forgot something. o well, anyway will be visting the shop monday morning and will have some pics and downpipe only/ full tbe videos on another forum monday night(i'll put a link in here). In all, i love the quality of the exhaust, but I'll probably love it more once its on!!!

No problem :D

The 12" muffler is a more traditional "muffler" because it has a lot of packing than the 6" mufflers do.

http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/535/644/143036.jpg

http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/535/644/143037.jpg

The 6" muffler are more of a hybrid between a muffler and a resonator because it does feature some packing material. These do a better job at reducing drone than quieting down the exhaust. You can see at the rear of the exhaust in this picture, the 6" muffler looks like a long cat.

http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/535/644/134721.jpg

But like we've said in the past, this exhaust system is not loud, and drone is almost non-existant. We only offer the extra muffler for people who want the added performance without the added noise over the stock exhaust system. So unless you're real sensitive to exhaust volume, you can probably skip the extra muffler.

I'm really sorry you ran into so many problems! Now that I've installed our downpipes a few times, there are definitely some tricks to getting those pipes in and out of the car. If at any point you run into anymore weird issues that aren't specifically addressed in the instructions, PM me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

And thanks for going to extra mile to post pics and vids! I'm anxious to see what you think of the system once it's on there!! (nailbyt) :D

O im sure i'll love it! i deffinitly like the tip, I was skeptical at first because the only pics i saw was from this one guy that had it put on but his situation made it stick out. Now that i have it on its very nice looking, almost stock. Anyway, i don't think i will run into anymore issues since this guy is just going to cut it out, i know how to do it now! lol

I went to my dealer too (not a speed dealer) and the single mazda tech had to go and look in the manual to see what i was talking about. So besides the 80 an hour, they wouldn't be able to do it for me on saturday. No place in town would actually. So now i have to wait until monday and this muffler shop is going to help me. I will deffinitly have some videos/pics up monday night. I previously had a video of just the downpipe so i will be doing a comparison of the stock to cpe downpipe (probably a big difference) and then the full exhaust systems and when i get my cpe intake i will put up a video if there is a change in the exhaust sound. probably not but o well.

Ah, glad to hear that you like the tip. We (cp-e) were talking about making some changes if people weren't happy with how far it sticks out from the rear bumper. We originally made the tip flush with the rear bumper partially because we thought that's where it looked best, and also because we wanted the "Custom Performanc Engineering" logo on the tip to be visible. When we saw that pic the guy you're referring to posted, we all agreed that isn't how its supposed to look. So I'm glad you're happy with the placement.

Also, we really appreciate you posting pics and vids since word of mouth is really our only advertisement, and feedback is what everyone is waiting for. It's one thing if we claim something about one of our products, but its a whole other story if one of our unbiased customers claims something. So we'll be eagerly waiting those vids :D

Thanks again!

Ok, as some already know I am having some trouble getting the downpipe on so I have to have it cut on monday. In the meantime, I have already put on the cat back system to see how the system looks in place. I just have to compliment CP-E on their asthetic design skills. The tip looks extremely nice. It gives the same shiny glow as the tails lights, sticks out a little further unlike the shy stock tip that was scared to show everyone. I took a bunch of pictures because I just love how close to stock it is all the while screaming that cpe tone when its parked! lol Anyway, monday night I will comparison videos of the stock exhaust/downpipe and cpe's exhaust/downpipe. I will also have much more pictures of the downpipe installed since there is a lack of existance.

UPDATED!
OK kids, I've got her done and its lovely! The sound is great and very near stock at highway speeds. I can clearly hear the turbo spool but just for a second or two before that sexy smooth rumble overtakes the little highpitched noise. Finally, after a weekend of waiting to put it on, and a month of waiting for it, I am very pleased with the results. In all, besides the sound, the turbo spool response is almost instant. Also, incomparison to similar ambient conditions of the stock exhaust, on the highway I was managing about 2 mpg better on avg (trip comp: 28 stock/30 cpe)
The videos don't do it justice though... enjoy.

Stock tip (best I have, stock exhaust went flying into the dumpster so it won't be going back on!)

lol, it is enough but i know that there is some people out there that want to hear the differences in cruising level and difference accel levels. you should do a long video, you have the better camera! lol plus mine was while it was raining and of course with the windows up. you should do one and just vary it, accel, cruising, windows up accel, cruising yada yada. It helps people more than you think. i know i would have loved to hear more videos of the exhaust before i bought it. o well im satisfied.

bah, you both rock. If the manufacturers did what the two of you guys did, they'd sell a lot more I think.

My TBE I ordered last week is on backorder and they should get new shipment from CP-E some time next week. Trying to get them to rush delivery it to me for making me wait a week with no word it wasn't in stock. Waiting is the suck :(

yeah, try waiting for your intake for over 2.5 months... if you got your tbe from street unit don't coun't on them giving you a break for making you wait. In the end it will be well worth it.

I can say that before i got my Intercooler i did not have any problems... but now with my upgraded intercooler, I indeed have fuel cut problems. CP-E has stated that it is due to many different sensor triggers that can be fixed via Engine mangagement/tuning. Their answer is their Standback device and I love their work/products but I'm looking for a reversable plug-n-play device... Cobb's AP

CP-E's PnP Standback looks to be just a couple of months away. Cobb? Well, maybe we'll know more after SEMA, but I think you're looking at many months or maybe even many seasons. The reason I think this is that I doubt they can offer a solution without throttle control and that may take some doing to get right. Given the complex dance the throttle plate is doing, it might be hard to unravel without causing other problems. I have nothing solid to base this on, but you gotta wonder why they're taking so long when they actually purchased an MS3 and are putting out everything else for it but their main product.
