So at 186k my clutch is finally going, so I decided to replace it with the stock clutch.

I've been told that my flywheel needs machining, no problem, as some of you know I run a CNC Machine shop with my dad.

The guys at the shop that's doing the labour said that I could machine the back of the flywheel to lighten the load. Has anyone done this to the stock flywheel? I figured why not give it a shot, figuring that I can take off about 1/4" off the back. Just wanted to see if anyone else has done this.

Let me know - i would do this too if possible...

BUT - because of the clutch chatter/warp problem - would this make it even more likely to warp again?

What clutch warp problem? I'm replacing my stock clutch after 186k and never had any problems with the stock clutch.

Well I decided to go ahead and take off 1/4" off the back. I wish I took the weight scale in to work with me, as I checked it when I got back home, and it was only a difference of ONE pound. Here's a close up:

So there we have it, 19lbs original, and now 18lbs. Again not a huge difference, but the guys over at Keep Labs said that I should notice a little difference. They also did say I could of taken more off. This is really a test to see how it works. We might try and find another one to machine more off, and see how much of a difference it makes.

I also took a lick off the other side to get rid of the glazing. I only had to take off .003" to clean it up.
