View Full Version : Rear mazdaspeed 3 badge removal..
OK, so I've got myself an Axela badge for the MS3, and when it (the outside air and that) warms up a little more, I'm planning to remove the mazdaspeed 3 badges, and replace them with the Axela badge. Or I might remove the 3, keep the mazdaspeed badge, and put the Axela on the right side. Undecided for now, but - these are stuck on badges, correct?
What is your favorite way to remove said badges? I was told a credit card or fishing line held like dental floss worked well, but either way I'm expecting some residue..
What is your favorite way to deal with said residue? A rusty knife? A rock? A sanding wheel? Paint thinner?
Anyway.. Any info/experiences will be appreciated.

I use fishing line and go gone......and IMO i would leave the mazdaspeed and put the alexa badge on the opposite side.

Where can I find grilles for making my mazda badgeless. So, shalezoom3, what do I do when I remove the rear badge with the two prongs?

Well if you removed the mazda badge it will leave two holes. So in order to fix it, you either have to bondo it over and have it painted, or i have other seen other people purchase a small pieces of vinyl to cover the holes.
Thats all I know of people doing.
you are talking bout the rear emblem on the trunk right?
If for the grill, then you have to buy an aftermarket one.....not sure who still carries them.

I asked my dealer to remove the "mazdaspeed 3" from my MS3 before I picked it up, so maybe next time you're in for service you could just ask your mechanic or a detailer to do it for you.

Our mazda badge was removed for us by some (*!&!@ a*hole; luckily, the paint wasn't scratched too badly. I was able to find some small plastic plugs which snapped right into the holes at a local Ace hardware (in the "self-service" nuts/bolts bins). They're black plugs on a silver car, so stand out a little. Of course, they were only about $.20 each, so I may pop they out and replace with another set painted to match.
For anyone de-badging, I'd be interested in buying (more correctly, the wife wants; I just think it'll get popped off again...) the badge you remove...

I'm just curious- why do you guys want to remove the badges on your car? Especially the Mazdaspeed3 badge, hehe, I would want to have that (purchased the wrong car).

So the emblem didn't leave any holes when removed, or did you just fill them in?

a blowdryer will work and is a little safer than a heat gun.
Well, I brought the Axela badge out to the car one warm day, after the car had a chance to sit in the sun for a while. Washed the car, pulled the mazdaspeed 3 badges off without any residue staying behind - just used my fingernail.
Then I decided I like it so much the way it is (just the flying M) that I put the Axela badge on my microwave, which also sports my old protege's mazda badge.
I should post a picture of the car now, all waxed.. I'll get one and prove it or something.
Anyway..

hands down safest way is a hair dryer to heat it and fishing line/dental floss to remove it....no risk of damage to paint or anything.

lol yeh but has anyone wondered how that fits on our car??? We DONT have a grille its all one peice, I do however plan on buying that whole bumper with that grille in another week or so...
oh and fishing line and then cleaning it ONLY with 3M Spray Adhesive Remover, then wax it. That stuff works wonders, used it on my badge and door bumpers with no flaws what so ever...
and one more thing, I did it when it was like 40 out last december

The Mazdaspeed rear badge does not have any alignment holes. Just take some fishing line/dental floss and slide it behind the badge. If any of the foam tape remains, usually just rubbing it will take it away or you can use alcohol.
I personally took mine off and replaced it with a Mazda badge - every WRX out there wants to race for some reason. Just to hard to resist spanking em!
Boost on and Cheers!
A guy once told me "there's no substitue for cubic inches" I responded "a little boost will change your mind!"
